There seem to be a few mums with twins on Mumsnet now, and a few new mums like me, and some expecting quite soon.

So I thought it would be great to have our own thread, as things are different when you are looking after 2 babies.

I also have a ds of 5, and a dd of 2.4, so we have busy house now. I had B/G twins 6 weeks ago and we are doing well.

took my new buggy (with babies) out and it was wonderful. Lovely to push, not unwieldy like a tandem, heavier than a normal single when the babes are in it but not too heavy. No heads touching hood and when they grow big enough to touch it I'll take it off. Lovely raincover. Small shopping basket, but lovely flexible handles.

I love it. Wonderful, so easy to get into shops. Can't wait to try it on the bus. Good if you are tall. Very impressed. DT2 was in the back seat and he loved being high up and seeing everything. No one stopped me to ask about the twins which was lovely. The novelty has so worn off now.

harrogatemum · 16/02/2005 08:51

ooh that sounds good - I'm 5 foot 11 and my Maclaren was the highest of the lot, all the others were a good 10cm shorter. By the way too many I live in North Yorkshire - Pannal, Harrogate.

Kelly1978 · 16/02/2005 09:14

I'm in Croydon. I know Harrogate, I went to college in Ripon, was soo quiet up there tho!

I got the Jane powertwin for my babies, can't wait to have the babies in it! There now saying I should have them abotu a month early, so not too long to go!!

toomanypushchairs · 16/02/2005 12:55

mtmml, sooo jealous. there was one for sale on mn, will have to find out whether it has been sold. Kelly1978, not heard of a Jane Powertwin, whats that like? Feeling quite chuffed at the moment, just potty trained the boys, its gone so well. much easier than my older 2.

MarsLady · 16/02/2005 15:08

toomany, the one on here is not quite the same as mine. I have the 2005 version (I know, I've got my finger on the pulse lol). If you do decide to get one get one that is made to BS standard or go to 2became4 and get the one with the BSI number. I was in too much of a rush and so just got the BS standard one. Much safer than the others, but not official. It folds down beautifully. I love it! Oh, have I said that before?

Kelly1978 · 16/02/2005 15:58

Well done witht he potty trainign, I did ds a little while ago, and the prospect of trying to train twins seems like a nightmare. I have visions of puddles everywhere!

This the the powertwin , it's a tandem three wheeler travel system.

smellymelly · 16/02/2005 17:59

MTMML - very jealous about your Marco sky pushchair, I want to get one in the next couple of months, when dt's are big enough. Glad to know it is serving you well... how do you manage on a bus with twins BTW?

I have counted up my pushchair list - 13 so far! I think...

Mostly for the 1st 2 kids. Currently have 5 in use now, single urban detour -(the only pushchair I have kept and love), mothercare pink stroller, black chicco, twin cosatto, and twin all terrain easylife.

I also have a pink single combi for sale which has hardly been used at all for sale, if anyone is interested.

I don't manage twins on buses, which is why I told DH that I needed a Marco Sky. I sold my opus duo to pay for it. You definitely have a lot of buggies. I really like the look of the Jane Powertwin. What a gorgeous buggy and with 2 carseat attachments. I'm glad that I didn't see that when I was pregnant. My DH would've died at the price. Don't like brown though so that would have kept his wallet safe for a while. What I wish I had bought, but is now too late, is a double sling. I loved carrying the singletons in their sling. I only found out about twin slings just before I would've stopped using it. Ah well... I've bought twin reins and have to confess to being a marketers dream.

toomanypushchairs · 16/02/2005 21:07

kelly1978, pushchair looks great. have you got the car seats aswell? they look excellent.

MarsLady · 16/02/2005 21:08

hi toomany. Wonder how bubble99 is getting on? She's being induced today.

4kids · 16/02/2005 21:25

The Marco Sky looks really nice & really good value but looks 2 small 4 my DT's what age does it go up 2 my dt,s are just 3 but still need a buggy tried single buggy & b board but 2 many arguements but side by side is falling apart dt,s r 99cm tall back seat looks 2 small MTMML - Do u think my dt,s would b 2 big 4 a marco please help

MarsLady · 16/02/2005 22:28

too small for you 4kids. My DTs are 1 and they should last a couple of years in it. I wouldn't buy a buggy for 3 year olds. I've got twin reins for when they are walking more.

4kids · 17/02/2005 10:11

MTMML- thanks for help but dt's wont walk with reigns they kick & scream both want 2 go in diffo directions then they both want 2 b carried i really need a new buggy anyone used the maclaren side by side stroller any good? theres one on a w site 4 £100 i dont want 2 pay any more.

Kelly1978 · 17/02/2005 10:18

Hi,
Yeah i got the buggy and two car seats, it totalled over £500. I wasn't overkeen on the colour neither, but the buggy was the most pratcial solution for us. As I live in a flat, I can just take the car seats upstairs when I get home. I also love three wheelers, as they are so easy to push, but a side by side would have been impossible to get round where we live.
Luckily dp was ok witht he price but I've been warned to take care of it, so we can hopefully get some money back when we finished with it!

toomanypushchairs · 17/02/2005 12:25

Marslady, sorry I post a message and then forget to go back and look. hope bubble has had her babies by now. Alas sounds like the marco would be no good for me either. the dt's are 2yrs 2mnths and are quite tall. kelly1978, I hardly used my baby car seat for my first 2, we used to leave it strapped in the car, but when the dt's were born we used them all the time. There was no way to get 2 babies anywhere at the same time without using them, I hated taking one in and then going back for the other. And I couldn't carry them. Didn't know what to do with the first one whilst I unclipped the second. The car seats were invaluable, wouldn't have managed without them. Think you've made a good choice.

Kelly1978 · 17/02/2005 13:33

That was one of the things I was worried about. I know mothers of twins who have said that you do learn to pick up both, but I can't see how!! Two car seats has to be easier.

toomanypushchairs · 17/02/2005 15:21

I did learn to pick them both up at the same time but only if they were laying next to each other, or if I could sit down to pick up the 2nd one. Now they both just cling round my neck tightly!

MarsLady · 17/02/2005 19:02

you learn to pick up both. What happens though is that other people look at you as though you are some kind of monster. You kinda hook them up any which way and jiggle them about until you are holding them comfortably.

Glad I saved you an unnecessary purchase toomany and 4kids. I shall continue to enjoy my marco sky for you both.

harrogatemum · 17/02/2005 19:15

so whats it lke weaning two babies at once? Give me some advice - I am starting it next month!

MarsLady · 17/02/2005 20:11

very interesting!!!

I just opened my Annabel Karmel book, did the timings the way that worked for me best andgot on with it. I feed them from the same bowl with one spoon. It's when they want to feed themselves that it gets difficult

Erinleigh · 18/02/2005 10:45

I fed them from one bowl with one spoon, too. I think I recall trying to start with one bowl and spoon each but it seemed ridiculous!

We used to make a game of it, counting spoonfuls: "One for S, one for E; Two for S, Two for E." When they were older they loved it.

toomanypushchairs · 18/02/2005 15:09

Same here, one bowl, one spoon. Wondering if bubble has had her babies? don't suppose her dh would think to post the news on here!

Kelly1978 · 18/02/2005 15:13

I've been wondering abt bubbles too. All been very quiet, they must be here!

MarsLady · 18/02/2005 18:19

We probably won't hear from her for a couple of weeks at least. Don't you remember how having twins just smacked you in the face and it took forever to catch your breath? I really hope all went well on Wednesday and that we hear from them soon. [smile

smellymelly · 19/02/2005 17:31

I would just like to say, that looking after our twin babies is a doddle compared to dealing with our older 2!

They are driving me mad... Arrrggghhh!!!!
