No history of multiples, not on any fertility treatment. Bit shocked. Lady doing scan was shocked too, never seen before, and spent an hour checking it was true! Still sinking in, but info would help it to sink in, I hope.

Any other people who have triplets or expecting triplets?

  • how long can you usually carry them for?
  • what are the effects on your body?
  • what's it like after?!!! (a long one)
  • how likely is it all 3 will live?
etc.

No question of termination for me, so just trying to get to grips with the reality here, it's all very surreal.

MamaG · 13/05/2008 13:54

wow! congratulations

no advice but didn't want to ignore

oregonianabroad · 13/05/2008 13:54

Wow! Congrats, MerryMarigold. No advice whatsoever, just thinking of you.

Anna8888 · 13/05/2008 13:54

No experience of triplets, but congratulations

Are they identical? My sister was friends with a girl who had two identical triplet sisters (eg three identical girls). Very very rare.

meemar · 13/05/2008 13:55

No experience to offer but congratulations and wow!

Good luck

MerryMarigold · 13/05/2008 13:56

No, they are not identical. Otherwise, I'd be afraid of 3 boys! I already have one ds (2.5yrs)

I love this story here about 80 year old triplets.

ceebee74 · 13/05/2008 13:58

Merry - no advice but wanted to say hi from the Nov 08 ante-natal thread - please come over and update everyone if you get a chance as they will all be thrilled I am sure.

Congratulations and although I am sure it is a shock for you, it will all be great in the end

Bramshott · 13/05/2008 13:58

Congratulations! You need to go here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1216/528042 to the multiple birth gurus regular thread and they'll welcome you with open arms (and lemon drizzle cake!). Several are mums of triplets I think.

ajandjjmum · 13/05/2008 14:00

Congrats!

fiodyl · 13/05/2008 14:20

Congratulations!

don't have triplets myself but Im sure I read somewhere that it is very common for triplets to be born at around 33 weeks

also I'm sure u know that a triplet pregnancy is higher risk than a normal one, but it means you will get lots of extra special care by the experts who know all about it

i think also that it is likely that al the normal pregnancy symptoms wil be increased (x3 possibly) so lok after yourself and get lots of rest- you will need all our energy once these 3 are born

Hi MerryMarigold, Congratulations, and I know that Chuffed had triplets (3 girls) on 19 March, her due date was in May originally. They have been home for 2 weeks now and are all 6lb - photos on her profile. If you do a search on her name you should find out where she hangs out (when she finds the time these days .

Chopchopmissy · 13/05/2008 15:16

Congratulations - My friend went to 34 weeks and they delivered early just because one was a wee bit small - they would have left her til 36 weeks max. No other complications apart from that She was obviously v. large but apart from that all was ok. Babies small when born but all doing fantastically and will be 1 next month.

cyteen · 13/05/2008 15:33

Blimey, congratulations Merry - triple the namefinding duties, eh?

Tortington · 13/05/2008 15:35

wow , conrats

JRocks · 13/05/2008 15:37

Good Lord, congratulations!

fiodyl · 13/05/2008 16:00

Oh yes you wil need 3 matching names like Holly, Molly and Polly for girls and Harry, Barry and Larry for boys

Timesofhope · 13/05/2008 16:02

Congrats! I'm also expecting triplets - i'm currently 18 weeks with mine.

I've been told quite little so far - that the babies will be born by C-section at around 4-6 weeks early so about 34-36 weeks.

Have been told about the risks of TTTS and have to have scans at least every 2 weeks to keep an eye on them. Other than that I think i'll be informed of things as the weeks progress.

Mine are identical triplets and hopefully will find out the sexs tomorrow at my scan!

You are going to get VERY big! At 18 weeks I already look at least a month further on than I am. Make sure you take it easy as you get bigger and get plenty of rest!

MrsCarrot · 13/05/2008 16:04

Wow, that's amazing

belgo · 13/05/2008 16:10

congratulations to you as well Timesofhope!

LolaBella · 13/05/2008 16:10

Hi Merry and congrats just wanted to congratulate you from the Nov thread. Also i noticed that a week ago you made a prediction for twins judging on the size of yourself and think its amazing how very nearly right you were

Its lovely news, sorry can't offer any advice but just my cogratultaions xx

Egg · 13/05/2008 16:14

Ahhh you need to pop over to the multiples thread as Bramshott said. You will meet "triplets" and "tiggertothemax" (or whatever she is called at the mo) and also "tripletsandtwins" who all have three. I have twins, they are GREAT .

And congratulations!
