28 weeks pregnant with twins and struggling!

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins and really starting to slow down and struggle.

My little boy is 16.5mo and I just can't keep up with him!

I'm very grateful that all is going well with my pregnancy and the twins are thriving. I've just hit a wall I think, with a lot of tummy discomfort and one transverse twin that is sticking into my ribs!

Please tell me it gets a bit easier (physically) when the babies are born Smile

No they're up to 7lbs 6oz so they're quite small.

That's good, hope you get through the next few weeks ok. I went into labour spontaneously at 34 weeks I don't think by body could have copied any longer. Glad you have a date to focus on.

SoonToBeSix · 16/03/2015 13:34

Coped , don't know where the i came from.

TheEagle · 16/03/2015 16:05

Thanks soontobe - can I ask, did your twins have to go to the NICU /SCBU when they arrived at 34 weeks?

My doctor is very hazy about the circumstances which would lead to twins going to NICU.

Can I jump in here? Smile I'm 20+2 with DCDA twins who are lying side by side. The consultant has said she would like for me to try for a natural delivery and if twin a comes out fine and twin b decides to mess around after the first delivery that I'll probably have an emcs with twin b. I want an elcs anyway! How likely would that be? My main concern is recovery if I deliver naturally with one and not the other.
My dd will be 4 and off school for the summer so I won't have to be up and out too early for a while. My first pregnancy was fine and had a natural delivery with no complications so I think it'll be hard for me to fight for a elcs. Also I'm planning to go on Mat leave at 34 weeks but due to my remaining annual leave I should hopefully be off work at around 31 weeks. The consultant said I'll ideally get to 37 weeks before the babies make a show

SoonToBeSix · 16/03/2015 16:30

Yes they went to special care for three weeks. They did have TAPS a for of twin to twin but they would have gone anyway as they needed oxygen and tube feeds.
As a guide under 36 weeks babies will go to SCBU but obviously it can vary.

mrsm16 · 16/03/2015 22:55

I've got a few up to 1 month clothes and mainly 0-3 because ds1 was so big and was out of them in no time, wondering should I buy a couple of new born babygros too?

SoonToBeSix · 17/03/2015 00:07

I would mrs. Maybe buy a pack a couple of days before your section and keep them in the packet that way you can return if not needed.

NinjaPanda34 · 20/03/2015 21:17

Hi fellow twin mummies and Mums-to-be :)
My twins are now 7 weeks old. I delivered by EMcs at 37+6. I was HUGE! I had a 55" waist. Both babies were head down so I was down for a natural delivery. If you have lots of fluid in your lower half, do not assume that the epidural will work. I had three. THREE. Not one of them worked. Please consider going for an ELCS, unless you like the pain! Then they lost baby A's heartbeat (even though I could feel them both move and see them ripple etc etc) so I had to have an emergency section. Only beginning to feel normal now. I've heard from a few other twin mums that their epidurals didn't work, if nothing else, chat to your consultant about it and raise your concerns early. Oh and be prepared for your pp bleed lasting for weeks what with the bigger placenta site... joy. On the upside though, 7 weeks on, I now weigh 3&1/2 stone less than I did on the morning of my induction! WHOOP!
Good luck!

littlesupersparks · 20/03/2015 21:28

Hi Ninja - can I just ask was this your first birth? I've had two very straightforward births and planning to go natural with the twins. Baby 2 is breech but they are happy to deliver her breech. I really, really don't want an epidural though!

I'm not that big (35cm fundal height at 34 weeks) but babies are over 50% centile apparently. Just hope all 3 of us make it through ok - so scary!

littlesupersparks · 20/03/2015 21:29

Just one week left at work!!! Time is getting short now!

TheEagle · 20/03/2015 22:01

little, my doctors were initially happy to have me try to go naturally even though Twin 2 was transverse.

I think they can coax Twin 2 out a lot more easily because everything is stretched and ready to go!

Now though, both my twins are breech so a section is on the cards. Also, I had a very traumatic EMCS under anaesthetic with my DS and I really don't want to go down the EMCS road again.

I had a fundal height of 34 at 30 weeks! I'm massive!

Had a scare on Monday night/Tuesday when I couldn't stop vomiting and had really intense Braxton Hicks. Hospital said to come in so I did and they said I was badly dehydrated. Babies were doing great but I needed 2 bags of fluids by IV.

Yesterday and today I've lost my mucus plug! I'm not sure what to feel about that - I lost my plug with DS 10 days before going into labour. I feel a bit nervous but I know that sometimes the plug goes weeks and weeks before labour shows up.

Hope everyone else is doing good and feeling well. Nice feeling to be finishing up at work!

littlesupersparks · 20/03/2015 22:06

I know if twin 1 was breech it would deffo be a c section - however he has been so far wedged down in both latest scans they couldn't measure his head. I really don't imagine he will turn now! I guess I've just got to trust my consultant really.

I had false labour scare at 30 weeks - it was horrid :( so pleased I have made it to 34 weeks now. Feels like a but of a milestone!

TheEagle · 20/03/2015 22:21

34 weeks is definitely a great milestone!

A friend of mine had her twins at 35 + 5 and they didn't need any time in NICU/SCBU.

Only a few weeks to go until you meet your little ones Smile I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that there'll be 2 newborns at the same time Grin

littlesupersparks · 21/03/2015 20:59

I know!!!!! I just hope they don't arrive on my eldest's birthday. I will be 38 weeks exactly. Would have 3 kids sharing a birthday!!!!

I can't believe I am going from 2 to 4 kids in one fell swoop!

mrsm16 · 22/03/2015 19:08

How are you feeling now eagle?
34 weeks is amazing little sparks!
I'm 32 weeks today and if I got another 2 weeks I'd be happy for the babies to arrive anytime after that! its my birthday the day I turn 37 weeks so probably end up happening that weekend!
anyone finding movements getting really sore, just feel so much more pronounced now!

TheEagle · 23/03/2015 08:28

mrsm, we are pregnancy twins cause I was 32 weeks yesterday too!

How is your back pain? Hope it's not getting worse.

I find the movements are more intense now they're bigger. The sonographer always comments on how active they are when she scans me so I'm expecting 2 livewires!

Feeling a lot better than last week but my tummy still isn't great and I can't eat a proper meal. Poor DS is the one suffering though because I really can't keep up with all his running around any more Sad

Hope everyone else is doing well.

OP posts:
mrsm16 · 25/03/2015 13:02

Ah that's mad eagle!!
had a check up yesterday, twin 1 5lb and twin 2 4lb 3 ozs! trace of protein and high BP for me so what should have been a quick apt ended 10 hours after it started! have a bad headache and very tearful today but think it's after all the drama yesterday when I managed not to cry at all! back is very sore today from a day of sitting in horrible hospital seats! time for a nap now while ds has his! When's your next check up eagle to see if twin 1 has moved?

TheEagle · 25/03/2015 13:24

Oh that's scary mrsm!

Did they keep you in to do a trace of the babies? Hope you feel much better soon, it's awful being in the hospital for such a long time!

I have a growth scan tomorrow morning and will talk to the midwife about having lost my mucus plug as well. Then a doctor's appointment next Monday too. I seem to spend a large portion of time in the maternity hospital Hmm

Those are fab weights for 32 weeks mrsm! I'm excited to find out how mine are doing tomorrow!

OP posts:
mrsm16 · 25/03/2015 17:17

Yup they did a trace and babies were happy out thank god!
also got a call today that they are going to bring me in for a nerve block on Friday so fingers and toes crossed it works and that I can move a bit more for the last few weeks!!
Ooh exciting, enjoy the scan il be interested to hear what weights they are! wonder is your mucous plug a sign that babies are coming?? mine went 12 hours before contractions started on ds but that's a while ago for you now!

TheEagle · 26/03/2015 14:18

Hopefully the nerve block will give you some relief mrsm, it's awful being in pain and uncomfortable.

Had my growth scan this morning. T1 is 4lbs 5oz and T2 is 4lbs. Delighted with their weights.

Doctor wasn't overly concerned about my loss of the plug. She put me on a trace and all was well with babies.

10 days after I lost my plug with DS my waters broke and I went into labour Shock Let's hope that doesn't happen this time!

Good luck for tomorrow!

How are you doing eagle?
I'm well and truly at the fed up stage! 34 weeks today and just ready to meet my babies, thoughts of 4 more weeks waiting has me like an absolute antichrist today!!!

TheEagle · 05/04/2015 20:11

Hi, mrsm, here we are at 34 weeks! Hurrah!

I have to say that I'm feeling better this week than I did a few weeks ago. I am really big now though and very ungainly!

Poor DS just wants to run around everywhere and Mummy really can't.

3 weeks and 3 days until my CS. I can't quite believe it's so soon but at the same time like you I don't know how I'm going to make it through the last few weeks Confused

DH is going to have a busy few weeks with work because he's taking a month off when the babies are born so he has to pay his dues now.

I've seen so many gorgeous Easter pictures of twins on Facebook today that it's made me so excited about meeting our twins.

Just got to stay sane for 3 more weeks Grin

Rootvegetables · 06/04/2015 09:01

Within seconds of giving birth, I said 'thats so much better' the midwife laughed but just being able to sit forwards was lovely.

mrsm16 · 11/04/2015 08:51

Going to be the longest 3 weeks to stay sane I've no date or plan discussed yet! I'm exhausted and toddler ds has decided now to quit napping!!
freaking out over every little twinge too,had reduced movement last 3 days so going in to get checked now but feel like a hypochondriac because I know they will start moving like mad the minute I get in there!!
