28 weeks pregnant with twins and struggling!

TheEagle · 22/02/2015 19:18

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with DCDA twins and really starting to slow down and struggle.

My little boy is 16.5mo and I just can't keep up with him!

I'm very grateful that all is going well with my pregnancy and the twins are thriving. I've just hit a wall I think, with a lot of tummy discomfort and one transverse twin that is sticking into my ribs!

Please tell me it gets a bit easier (physically) when the babies are born Smile

Good luck with the checks mrsm, hope all is well. Always better off to get checked out for peace of mind.

Movements have slowed a bit for me too and have become stronger - having a fair few Alien moments when I can see a hand rippling across my tummy Shock

I'm absolutely massive now and don't see how on earth I can get any bigger. You can tell where T1's head is and where T2's bum is!

2 weeks and 4 days left for me ... the countdown is on Smile

Good luck to you both. I had my DTDs at 33, so you've done brilliantly!!! Please post when they're here, am really excited for you both!

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 11/04/2015 13:23

Mind if I join you for the final furlong? I'm 34 weeks today and like mrsm I have no plan for what comes next although based on 32 week scan it will be an elective section. I moved the weekend after that scan and am waiting for the consultant appointment in my new area....and keeping my legs and everything else crossed nothing happens before I get seen.

Like Eagle I have some very strong movements at the moment although no alien invasion. I have two very definite big solid lumps which I think are the head of t1 and bum of t2 but new midwife on feeling my bump thought the one I think is a bum was actually a head so who knows!

Back definitely struggling now so I have no idea how you both with little ones are managing-I have the old lady groaning as I get up/down/roll over down to a tee but at least it's only me I have to worry about! I am trying to focus on the "maximum four weeks to go" mantra but it's hard to ignore the statistics that half of twins will arrive before 37 weeks so every little twinge or change gets me on high alert.

Anyway I'll stop my moaning now! MrsM I hope you've had a full check and everything is ok for you and your twins

Hope you're all ok in the sunshine if you've still got it xx

mrsm16 · 11/04/2015 17:21

Thanks everyone, home again now, twin 2 went crazy once the trace was on, twin 1 stayed quiet! had a scan then too and twin 1 quiet during that but everything looked fine. They thought my waters might be leaking but no such luck! have to go back in Monday for another trace so I'm not 100% happy but happier than I was this morning!!
exactly 2015 max 4 weeks.....and repeat!

TheEagle · 11/04/2015 19:18

Glad to hear all's well mrsm! The traces are such a pain aren't they!! Are your twins both head down?

2015, I keep seeing that about twins arriving before 37 weeks too! Everytime I have pressure in my pelvis I think "this is it" and then I just need to go to the loo Blush

So exciting that we are nearly there and our lovely twins will be in our arms very soon!!!

Great news mrsm. I know it's a nuisance to have to go back but they're obviously not so worried you needed to stay in until then. My t1 is also always quieter and the midwife said this was because they are the smaller one so the big one is just taking over. I hope you can relax a bit now until you have to go back.

Eagle-glad it's not just me and the regular trips to the toilet. Sometimes it's only half an hour between trips! I think our friends and family think we're being overly neurotic because we aren't really committing to any plans for the next four weeks but I don't think they have read the same information we all have.

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 13/04/2015 17:59

mrsm how'd you get on with the checks today? Any closer to getting a date? Hope all is ok
X

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 16/04/2015 15:14

Well one way to make a week pass quicker is to be told your baby is way too small and you might need to have an urgent delivery. That was Tuesday's first appointment with my new maternity team which struck panic into our hearts. Fast forward two days to a further scan today with the fetal medicine consultant to be told, no they're both fine, it was just sonographer variation, no need for any emergency delivery and actually as twin two has their head very low in the pelvis they are now the presenting twin so we're not even going to book a planned section for you. See you in two weeks assuming you haven't given birth by then! So I now have absolutely no plan for birth other than when/if I go into labour naturally in the next t weeks, I have to go to be checked out and they will decide at that point whether to continue with a vaginal birth or go for a section. If I haven't given birth by the next appointment, when I will be 36w3d then they will decide on a plan!

And the waiting continues! Any suggestions for how to pass the time? I feel nervous booking anything in, my SPD means I'm useless on my feet for more than about 10 minutes and I can't be bothered to entertain house guests!

Eagle-have I calculated correctly and you are now in the last two weeks?? Must be nice to know you havea definite end point even if you end up being admitted earlier.

Mrsm-hope you're doing ok after the checks at the beginning of the week

Xx

TheEagle · 16/04/2015 16:05

2015, that is scary! Sorry you had that experience. Something similar happened to us after the 20 week scan. It was a different sonographer and she calculated the growth discordance between the twins as being 16%. The consultant said that was concerning. I was so worried for the 10 days between that appointment and my next scan.

However, once I was back with the original sonographer things had evened out! Just goes to show that these things can be very subjective. I never had that level of scanning etc with my first baby so sometimes less is more!

Less than 2 weeks now yahoo! Twin 1 has now moved very low down as well and I am really under pressure in the pelvic region. I keep feeling like something might happen but I had that feeling with DS for weeks before I went into labour with him Smile

When DS is in the crèche, I'm mostly just resting, watching a bit of TV and reading. During these weeks last time I went knitting and crochet mad and made loads of blankets and cuddly toys! This time around I don't even have the energy for that.

Sorry to hear about the SPD, that must be painful. I can't stand for very long either because of the pressure and my feet are a small bit swollen as well.

I suppose all we can do is rest up as much as possible and try to prepare ourselves mentally for the rollercoaster ahead Smile

Hope you're doing well too mrsm

Just catching up ladies, 2015 that's so worrying but glad everything's ok! I had a few scans like that where things were worrying (fluid level, size difference etc) and for everyone they had settled by the next scan!
I'm going to be 36+2 at my next appointment and no plan yet either, I intend to go in crying and begging I'm in so much pain, uncomfortable and just plain fed up and I want these babies out now please! everything was fine when I went back in on Monday, trace and little scan again to be sure and both are head down now. Was with gp this afternoon and bit of glucose in my urine so she wants me to drop another sample in tomorrow to test, said head isn't engaged though :(
eagle so exciting counting down the sleeps, have you anything nice planned for before they arrive? x

hollynoble · 17/04/2015 12:51

Hi ladies, can I join too?

I'm nearly 20 weeks with non ID twins and the last few days I have really struggled. I can only describe it as being like sleep deprivation. I can't concentrate for more than 30 mins, forget words and meetings, and just want to sleep. Does it just get worse from here on in?

I'm so excited about having two little boys but am just knackered already!

TheEagle · 18/04/2015 11:43

Hi holly, twin pregnancy is no walk in the park but I can confirm it's totally worth it because:

Our twin boys were born this morning at 4.26 and 4.27 am! My waters broke and I was having contractions - I was 4cm dilated when we got to the hospital. However Twin 1, although they were head down had their hand by their head, so I was prepped for the EMCS.

Twin 2 was born in his sac which is apparently good luck.

I'm so in love Grin

Good luck ladies, you're so close now!

Waaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! Eagle that is amazing news and has brought tears to my eyes. Congratulations! What weights were they? Naughty twin one fir putting their hand up but I know a lady who gave birth that way and she said that tiny little hand was very very painful. Are they both with you now? I hope they stay out if SCBU (they should do as they've chosen to arrive at a sensible gestation) and you are soon home as a family if five!

Welcome Holly. I agree with Eagke, twin pregnancy is hard and u found trying to juggle normal working patterns with the growth spurts at your stage really tough and it was the start of me making big adjustments to make my life easier.

MrsM-I'm so glad everything was ok when you got checked out. How you feeling now? I'm getting antsy about waiting and the not having any kind of plan means I don't even have that final latest due date to aim for. Do you feel the same way?

Congrats again Eagle xx

TheEagle · 18/04/2015 13:27

Thanks 2015!

They were 5lbs 13 and 5lbs 14 Smile They're with me on the postnatal ward now and both have been feeding which is brilliant.

Still can't quite believe it's all real! I'm also wondering what DS1 is going to think of it all!

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 18/04/2015 13:57

Brilliant weights as well. That's amazing. And you knew something felt different earlier in the week. May it continue to be smooth from here x

slightlyinsane · 18/04/2015 16:14

Congratulations and welcome to the roller coaster that is twins. Both my girls had their hands up by their heads. I'm really glad I had an epidural as the consultant put her hand in and rearranged themShock

mrsm16 · 18/04/2015 17:22

Oh eagle congratulations!! Great weights!! huge welcome to the world to your two little boys! Delighted that they are both with you too, Eek so exciting, hope ds is delighted with them too!

2015 Very antsy and grumpy this weekend and poor dp is taking the brunt of it I just need an end date in sight and not this limbo land!!

Holly welcome, twins is definitely tough, rest when you can and let other people help you when they offer only way to survive!!

hollynoble · 19/04/2015 18:26

Eagle, I'm so pleased for you, massive congratulations!!
I hope everyone else is doing well at the moment too.

I think mine have had a growth spurt over the last few days as I have been poleaxed on the sofa for most of the weekend. My bump seems to be quite a bit bigger all of a sudden!

mrsatkinson · 20/04/2015 07:42

congratulations Eagle! brilliant news! makes me even more excited to meet mine. 19+2 and having the day off work. have been struggling with terrible growing and stretching pains this week. they are an absolute killer. Everyone ive spoken to hasnt had them as bad as me, but they only had singletons.
is this pain normal?

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 20/04/2015 10:39

mrsa I had stretching pain down the sides of my bump but it was never so bad I needed to change my plans/take a day off work. Pelvic girdle pain however did cause me a lot of agony and would be in the centre of my pelvis (right around the through the vaginal area) and radiate from there to my hips and lower back. I think it's normal for there to be more stretching with twins as the uterus obviously has more in it than with one but if it's causing you this much discomfort speak to your midwife and check there's nothing else.

holly from here on you'll learn to recognise the growth spurts. For me it was when I could graze ALL day and still feel hungry coupled with the stretching feeling described above. It doesn't happen as often now I'm 35 weeks but they're still putting on weight so it's just a bit more gradual rather than bursts.

No sign here of anything spontaneously happening but not sure what that sign would be....just hoping I'll know it when I see it. My DH is hoping they'll hold out until May 4th (when I'll have a mini to fight to not have Luke and Leah as their names!) and for some reason I've decided May 9th would be a good date (Chinese superstition that the number 9 is lucky for them and by coincidence we've just moved to no. 9 and they were implanted in September) but that is three weeks away so highly unlikely. So, along with mrsm I wait.

slightlyinsane · 20/04/2015 16:06

Mrsatkinson what type of twins are you having?? Some stretching pain is normal and to be expected, some types of pain may need checking depending on twin type

mrsatkinson · 20/04/2015 18:33

slightly, they are dcda. happened again a bit today, rang midwife who said its most likely ligament pain. didnt last as long today and was in the exact same place. once it had passed i was absolutely fine again Smile

mrsm16 · 23/04/2015 06:30

The Eagle how are you and your boys doing??
I was admitted after clinic and being investigated for pre eclampsia, should have results around lunch time and make a plan then but looking like il be kept in until babies arrive either way! hope they just get on with it and induce me today!

2015 hope your hanging in there!

2015isgoingtobeBIG · 23/04/2015 08:08

Oh no mrsm! What a nightmare but also ever so slightly exciting as it means you might get to meet your twins very soon. Im glad they're monitoring you closely. Do you feel ok or did you feel like your blood pressure was up?
I'm hanging in there but not enjoying it. Everything aches around my hips as I think the final surge of relaxin has kicked in and at times they feel really loose and uncomfortable to the point I can barely walk. I'm also getting fed up of the texts from everyone asking if there's news. I know they mean well but I am currently feeling so grumpy I just get annoyed by it all. I'm so tired now I would quite happily spend all day in bed and not see a soul!!
Anyway, it's keeping me going hearing about babies arriving both on here and from my twin antenatal group and I know it'll be my turn soon. Thinking of you and hope that BP doesn't do anything silly xx

TheEagle · 23/04/2015 08:48

Best of luck mrsm, you'll be cuddling your babies very soon! Let us know how you get on!

We are doing well, we came home yesterday Smile The boys had to spend a few nights in the NICU to help with their temps and blood sugars but they are flying now.

It's quite intense - having a newborn is intense enough but having 2 of them is hectic! They're feeding well so hopefully they will start packing on the ounces.

Oh and the docs clarified that Twin 1 wasn't presenting hand first, he was actually a footling breech which is why everything happened so fast.

Twin 2 was born in his sac which is very lucky all apparently. They lowered the curtain so we could see it!

The relief of not being pregnant anymore is intense! No heartburn, no breathing problems, it's really lovely.

Mind yourself 2015 and look forward to hearing of your arrivals mrsm. Will be thinking of you.
