Afternoon. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get food today for me and my daughters. Struggling to make ends meet completely now as a single mum to 4 and no food banks are open today. Thankyou

Good grief don’t do that!!

Just save it for if there is a next time.

you have 4 children.
Channel it to them not random mumnetters,
no matter how much in need they may be

Sarahlouisemamofgirls · 11/01/2026 18:39

I know I don't need to but I'd like to of it came to light that someone in the same boat was giving me advice. From one kind person to another thankyou ❤️

I don't I honestly don't even have 2 pence to rub together at the moment, I do work and claim uc I've tried asking for an advance however my earnings were too high lastmonth, I'm paid 4 weekly from work so this month looks as though I've been paid twice which I haven't it's an absolute nightmare when you have little ones depending on you

There is always one month when they count two wages in one month. I have this problem as well with our UC as paid every four weeks.

Fgs

you have 4 children and an hour ago you had absolutely nothing in your entire house for your children to eat.

you now have £100 voucher to last until Thursday. Don’t give a penny of it to anyone other than your children

Sarahlouisemamofgirls · 11/01/2026 18:46

I've just learned this on Friday when I received no payment, I know now for next time just got me on a bad month straight after Christmas that's all. Will it be the same month each year? X

Yes and I’m saying, do not help anyone else. You are 1% responsible for 4 dependent children and every last penny should
go towards them. Not anyone else!!

Bighairybuubles · 11/01/2026 18:54

This thread is batshit!

OP, with the greatest respect, what you need to do is use the remainder to stock up on store cupboard staples so that you don’t end up in this situation again. Wouk your aunt be happy to know you’d given her money to a stranger?

ColdBlueSky · 11/01/2026 19:05

Do not give any of your aunts voucher to anyone else. Stock up with staples so that you are not in this situation again.

Sarahlouisemamofgirls · 11/01/2026 19:11

Ok chill il stock up 😅 I'm good now though just the 4 weekly wages and uc thing caught me off guard I don't often fall on times as bad as this was thanks everyone

That is a relief. You’ll be able to get a decent amount of stock in

Think it will be a different month depending how it falls.

Fends · 11/01/2026 19:44

It’s not unreasonable for people to be perplexed that you’d start giving money away when you e got 4 kids and not one crumb to give them!

Get a good stock of cheap, long life food in. And save it for next time. Hopefully there won’t be one but at least you won’t be caught unawares on a Friday!

333FionaG · 11/01/2026 20:28

I'm so glad your aunt was able to help out financially, but please make sure you fill your cupboards and fridge with food for you and the children, before offering the voucher to people you don't know.

I have asked repeatedly. Even if a slice of bread.

and the answer was absolutely nada

Are you socking your own 'I have nothing to eat at all' thread?

99victoria · 11/01/2026 21:40

Speak to your children's school. The government give schools a Community fund every year to distribute to families in need. No need to provide proof etc - you just need to make them aware of your need. They can give you a voucher for one of the main supermarkets

Bizarre.

Maybe reread the post. Slowly @NeverDropYourMooncup . Really slowly.

Sarahlouisemamofgirls · 11/01/2026 16:58

It doesn't matter what you "think" it's irrelevant when you don't know any facts.. I'd never ever accept money from a stranger/good samaratin or anyone else. I simply asked if anyone knew of a foodbank in the area I wasn't asking for money

What area are you in? That tends to help people to signpost help for you
