Today we paid off our mortgage 😁

We've had a good few years of knuckling down and over paying. I'm so pleased we've finally done it.

Time now for a family holiday. We've not had an abroad holiday for a good few years.

No point really for this post but I just wanted to share with somebody 😁😁

Any advice on next steps or things we need to think about now it's done would be appreciated too.

Amazing 🤩

2chocolateoranges · 12/02/2025 10:54

Amazing, we have 13 more payments and ours will be paid off!

we haven’t overpaid as mortgage relatively small and we’ve enjoyed holidays once or twice each year. It’s a good feeling knowing that you’re/ you’re going to be mortgage free very soon .

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 12/02/2025 10:56

I love this. Enjoy the feeling of being unburdened ☺️

ajandjjmum · 12/02/2025 10:57

It's a great feeling! Well done.

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 12/02/2025 10:57

Congrats!

Mindymomo · 12/02/2025 10:58

Well done, it’s great isn’t it. We finished ours a good few years ago, but never knew he could pay it off earlier, so we carried on paying.

julesover40 · 12/02/2025 11:20

Congratulations, enjoy that feeling.treat yourself to a nice meal and/or bottle of bubbles to celebrate.
Looking forward to the day ours is paid off, have a few years still x

JimHalpertsWife · 12/02/2025 11:21

Fabulous news!

We've recently decided to stay put in our reasonably nice (once you get inside) home in an area we are sick to the back teeth of, because the mortgage is a pittance and hopefully we can combine mortgage free with the dc moving out. That way we can be much more flexible on location and downsize at the same time

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 12/02/2025 11:33

I love this. Congratulations.

It's the best feeling!

Do you feel like you can't really tell anyone in real life?

Savemefromwetdog · 12/02/2025 11:34

Well done, great news!! I’d book an amazing holiday too. Enjoy!!

sparrowflewdown · 12/02/2025 11:36

That is fantastic! I am now paying my DS's mortgage as rents are so high but hey ho...

JasmineTea11 · 12/02/2025 11:40

Good for you OP, it's such a relief!

pickywatermelon · 12/02/2025 11:41

Aww thank you all!

It is the best feeling. One less thing to have to worry about now.

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee it's strange isn't it? I haven't told anyone as I feel like I'm bragging in some way. Especially when lots of people are struggling. Makes no sense I know.

Unfortunately no celebration until the weekend as I'm at work the rest of this week.

Thanks again 😁

Well done you! I've got just under two years for mine.

TuesdayRubies · 13/02/2025 21:21

Of course it makes sense not to tell people IRL. No one likes a show off! But here, brag away.

TuesdayRubies · 13/02/2025 21:21

Not sarcastic btw, realised it sounded it. Congrats OP!

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 13/02/2025 21:24

That's brilliant. Wonderful to actually own your own home rather than the building society. Enjoy.

babbi · 13/02/2025 21:26

Congratulations OP .

Pebbles16 · 13/02/2025 21:30

Huge congratulations. We paid ours off about two years ago - didn't tell many people IRL but had a nice dinner out to celebrate.

FatLarrysBanned · 13/02/2025 21:39

Well done @Marypoppinsisnosaint 🥳

Advent0range · 13/02/2025 21:47

Excellent! Great news. Must be a relief!

Advent0range · 13/02/2025 21:48

Maybe put the equivalent amount into a SIPP each month (or a bit less, there's got to be a bit more fun in life!)
