Today we paid off our mortgage 😁

We've had a good few years of knuckling down and over paying. I'm so pleased we've finally done it.

Time now for a family holiday. We've not had an abroad holiday for a good few years.

No point really for this post but I just wanted to share with somebody 😁😁

Any advice on next steps or things we need to think about now it's done would be appreciated too.

It's a lovely feeling, isn't it?!

I had the announcement of our final payment by text, which felt very underwhelming. At the very least there should have been a fanfare and fireworks.

🤭 that’s how I feel after completing some computer games. All the hours invested and it’s an underwhelming end and the credits just scroll 🤭

Congratulations!

I am hoping to get ours paid off by this time next year. Plan then is to put the mortgage amount into pension as AVCs.

Brilliant! It's really freeing isn't it?! One thing I would suggest though, is putting some of the money aside, that you'd usually have paid for your mortgage, per month.
All of a sudden, you'll wonder where that extra money each month has disappeared to and how you could ever have afforded the monthly payments!!! It happens! It just gets sucked into every day expenditure!
Aww I bet you're really thrilled though and so you should be! Well done! 👏🏻🥂💐

My rate is up in Oct. Currently on 2.79% and 70k outstanding

I am going all out to clear it.

For the last 2 years I have used previous overpayments to effectively stop paying my mortgage and instead have been putting 1300 a month into regular savers so that will be half. I can draw some dividends as a Limited company director which at the moment will take me within 10k.

I only have 3k left to do.
Planning to clear it next month

@forgotmyusername1 that's seriously impressive!

Well done! 🎉🎉

We went on our family holiday earlier in the year, it was so nice not worrying about a limit on spending money everyday and budgeting.

We've had some lovely days out and now looking at updating the house one room at a time.

Money is also being saved and pensions are being topped up but it's so nice not checking the bank account every other day 😁

Well done op and enjoy your holiday.

My tip would also be to put the equivalent of what you were paying for your mortgage in your pension scheme. You will be pleased you did in 10-15 years time and you won't notice the difference.

Even if you split the old mortgage payment 50:50 between spending and pension it will make your retirement a lot easier.

Oops - didn't realise it was an old thread😳
