Today we paid off our mortgage 😁

We've had a good few years of knuckling down and over paying. I'm so pleased we've finally done it.

Time now for a family holiday. We've not had an abroad holiday for a good few years.

No point really for this post but I just wanted to share with somebody 😁😁

Any advice on next steps or things we need to think about now it's done would be appreciated too.

Congratulations 🎊

Go enjoy your holiday!!! 🥂

CherryMarigold · 13/02/2025 22:06

Ooh I remember feeling a bit shifty when we paid ours off as I didn't feel we could really talk about it to anyone, it didn't help that we were going against the advice of our FA. I'm still pleased we did it though.

Cece92 · 13/02/2025 22:11

Congratulations 🥳 you should be proud of how hard use have worked to pay it off. Enjoy a celebration at the weekend and a well earned holiday. X

toomanytocount2025 · 13/02/2025 22:11

Only nearly 40! You are impressive. 👏

SingingSands · 14/02/2025 11:52

Happy for you OP - congratulations!

And impressed - only 40! Well done, enjoy that holiday!

GOODCAT · 14/02/2025 18:40

I am quite a bit older than you, but paid mine off at the end of January. Having a frugal February as a result, but will feel the benefit from my next pay day although putting most of the difference into my pension straightaway. It is a good feeling especially as my job is not secure. It would have been amazing to have done that at 40.

candishop · 14/02/2025 21:18

Congratulations! It's my dream. Super happy for you. Enjoy the spare cash x

letshavetea · 14/02/2025 21:28

Cingratulations! It’s a great feeling. Happened for us five years ago. Then we retired three and a half years ago. It makes such a difference when you’re not paying a mortgage each month!

stanleypops66 · 14/02/2025 21:46

Congrats. We became mortgage free 5 years ago when we relocated from the SE to the north. Went from a crap area to a nicer one too. We decided not to spend what we could've and bought a like for like in size.
Best decision ever. We have a fab lifestyle now, and can save towards pensions, LISA and dc ISA. Plus several holidays a year.

BurntBroccoli · 14/02/2025 21:53

It's a great feeling and I feel very lucky.

I remember calling the bank and asking to pay the last £200 off.
Such a massive feeling of relief after years of overpaying (when the interest rates were almost zero) and being very careful.

LostittoBostik · 14/02/2025 21:54

Brilliant, well done. We're going to start over paying once the nursery fees are done. Still got a long way to go though. Must be an amazing feeling.

LostittoBostik · 14/02/2025 21:55

Jesus you're so young to be mortgage free too! Am jealous!

Wigtopia · 14/02/2025 21:58

Congrats! We are hoping to be mortgage free in about 4 years if all goes to plan! You must feel delighted!

Spectre8 · 14/02/2025 22:01

Congratulations 🎊 I am starting my final 5 yrs as of May 2025 and cannot wait. I'm planning on using my money to tske more risks like a career break to go travelling. Upgrade my life a little and stay in much nicer hotels etc. And still put some away to top up savings so I can have a comfortable retirement.

I just love the fact ill have more flexibility and take more risks with my career etc. Mmhave the option to rture early if my health isn't good. Money no longer has that much power over you!

NameChanges123 · 14/02/2025 22:17

🥳🎉

forgotmyusername1 · 14/02/2025 22:32

My rate is up in Oct. Currently on 2.79% and 70k outstanding

I am going all out to clear it.

For the last 2 years I have used previous overpayments to effectively stop paying my mortgage and instead have been putting 1300 a month into regular savers so that will be half. I can draw some dividends as a Limited company director which at the moment will take me within 10k.
