The dreaded bank text message

Melonbraun · 08/05/2024 07:06

Just had the dreaded bank text message to tell me how much money I don’t have left!!!

I don’t get paid till 25th and I’ve got 350 left. Partner has about the same. Doesn’t feel like much of a life for two people both working hard in full time jobs. Everything is just so bloody expensive

just having a whinge

OP posts:

Use the Report button and ask MN to take it down. Glad you're reading the room better now.

£700 for 2 weeks?! Are you having a laugh?!

Come on OP, I get that might be tight for you but read the room... There are people on here and irl who live on less than that every single month.

I think people are being a bit unfair on OP

I don't think it's a lot of money for two people working hard in full time jobs

Sure, some people will have less, but many of these will be not working/working part-time/not very qualified or haven't bothered with their career. I'm not saying this applies to everyone struggling, but it will be a majority.

Is it really that unreasonable to expect that hard work should afford you a bit more in life?

smilyfairy · 08/05/2024 11:53

No worries , I've just got my usual 2nd week, you've gone into your overdraft message !

My friends husband walked put on her just after she had her leg amputed.. said he was going for a loaf of bread and some milk. Took bank card and withdrew their last £200. Sent text to say he was leaving her for someone else.My friend is waiting for benefits.. she has/ had £50..
She would be so happy in your situation.
Luckily I'm very rich( due to compensation ) and gifted her a thousand pounds.. even though she never asked and keeps saying she will pay me back.
I think OP you need to take a step back.. get over yourself and think before you post

It's hardly OPs fault that your friend picked a rat of a husband and had her leg amputated! What a weird post!

carerlookingtochangejob · 08/05/2024 12:01

@MidnightMeltdown lots of us are working bloody hard in full time work yet can barely keep a roof over our heads and food on the table.

Fun is a walk from home now. There is no money left not even for fuel to drive for a nicer walk. So yes this post is incredibly insensitive

gamerchick · 08/05/2024 12:01

You don't need to delete your post OP. A lot more people are living pay to pay than there was a few years ago. No matter what their income. No it doesn't seem worth it.

No matter who you are, having to keep a close eye on your bank account, properly sucks.

You always get the posts. "Insensitive, some people are eating chewing gum from under the tables '. ' no savings, that's bad, start saving' and so on. Whinge away.

Don't you do that. Sick of the pious policing going on here atm. Scroll on instead of telling people what they can and can't post ffs.Hmm

loropianalover · 08/05/2024 12:07

OP don’t delete your post! You’re entitled to whinge. If someone finds this insensitive simply scroll by - just because you’re in your overdraft, the whole of mumsnet can’t be catered to your sensibilities!

Agree with this. I’m in a decent job and am already OD this month, but that doesn’t mean I can censor what other people choose to post on a public forum. I’m glad OP’s not as broke as I am. It’s fucking shit. Her not posting isn’t going to make me any richer 😂

gamerchick · 08/05/2024 12:19

Mind it does seem like it's been a ruddy long April. Mays a 5 week month isn't it?

CommeUneVacheEspagnole · 08/05/2024 12:30

lol! I also get paid on the 25th and have had less than £350 for a while. I'll make it. So will you.

Ease off the glue that's making you think it's not enough and you'll probs have enough.

I'm sorry that you're in that situation, but again, it's not OPs fault.

Middle class jobs no longer afford the middle class lifestyle and people are allowed to be upset and moan about that.

The fact that other people are worse off isn't relevant. It's not a competition. The majority of the world's population will be worse off than even you.

mickandrorty · 08/05/2024 13:50

everyone has different budgets and different ideas of not having much money left! i got a bit carried away at the start of the month and have about £15 until payday next Friday lol

Janedoe82 · 08/05/2024 14:10

I agree £350 isn't a lot and would also be anxious. The fact so many are living essentially in poverty doesn't make it OK.

Hoppinggreen · 08/05/2024 14:15

FindingMeno · 08/05/2024 07:57

Oh behave op.
You know full well the actual financial crisis some people are in at the moment.
Don't rub it in.

Look, its more than some and less than others.
Just because people have less than £700 until the end of the month it doesnt mean OP isnt allowed to wish she had more.

GingerPirate · 08/05/2024 14:16

Try living within your means ...

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/05/2024 14:18

genuinely surprised that the consensus seems to be that £700 for 2 weeks is loads of cash.

I don't think it is tbh and wouldn't want to be that low with over 2 weeks until pay day

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/05/2024 14:24

@Melonbraun don't delete you post, the point you are making is a fair one.

Money just doesn't go as far for any of us these days and it is frustrating.

But it's only for food, fuel and 'fun'

£200-250 on food. Who knows what on fuel, but £150 would be two full tanks of a medium to large car, so quite a bit.

Leaving at least £200 for fun, which would pay for a couple of meals out, day out, cinema etc.

The OP is talking as if she's going to be sitting in the dark eating cold beans until pay day, which is very far from the case.

Many people are happy to be still in the black 2 weeks before pay day, or have some of their overdraft remaining.

MummyDummyNow · 08/05/2024 14:44

I have £4:15 until the 17th. No idea what I'm going to do.

OP, do you often find that your diamond shoes are too tight too?

GingerPirate · 08/05/2024 14:16

Try living within your means ...

What does that mean though? I live within my means but I have fuck all due to cost of living
After paying everything I usually have £340pm for food and fuel and any social stuff/clothes

MoroccoMole · 08/05/2024 14:59

£700!!! My how the other half live 😂

I'm currently £55 into my overdraft and don't get paid until the 26th.....just to put your situation into some perspective

ridingfreely · 08/05/2024 15:20

You have plenty more
