Alas another month with nothing

blametheparents · 03/11/2022 07:59

£50 on full holdings

DH got £150 on full holdings. He’s had a good year - definitely earnt more than he would have done in interest in any other account.

Ekátn · 03/11/2022 08:08

Just checked and in the last 6 months I am at 3.1% return. I only have 2 more months before I need to withdraw the majority. So I am going to keep it in there.

I might keep the remainder in for a little while, see what happens. Will be left with about 6k.

Dragonskin · 03/11/2022 16:46

£100 on a 5k holding, largest prize I've had and typically just after I have taken the bulk of my savings out!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2022 18:24

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/11/2022 19:21

Ooh! £150 on full holdings. I bought the premium bonds in September, so this is a first for me!

@dizzydizzydizzy fab return

This is the first month we have 2 lots of full holdings so I was feeling optimistic but we got 50 on one account and nothing on the other, which I felt was rather rubbish.

Blimey that's a good return! I'm at 0.6% for the last 6 months, and I've won more or less every month.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/11/2022 20:59

2 x £100 and 2 x £25 for us this month. First time I've had a prize over £25 and got two at once! 😁

I am very pleased with it. Last month is the only month I won only one prize. The other months has been 2 or 3 prizes. And in July one of my prizes was £500. This month £150 in total. So those 2 months have boosted it quite quite a lot.

Just hoping my luck holds out (or gets better) in the next 2 draws 😬

losingit31 · 05/11/2022 05:44

Not a spectacular rate of return for us - FH and we got £50/£75. So across both accounts, that's a rate of 0.8% this year, and a total of £150 next month would take us to 1% for 2022. We need whatever luck @WeAllHaveWings have got!

FredaFox · 05/11/2022 07:37

My second ever £25 (first was September) on £2,200
I only started bonds thanks to you lot

I've never checked before, so looked back over the last 12 months for both accounts and we have won £1,100 in total.

A big chunk of that is the £250 this month and it bumped our rate up from 0.9% to just over 1.1%.

FiveShelties · 06/11/2022 20:29

One £100 & one £50 for me and £25 for my husband. We have £32k each.

Congratulations to the big winners.

OneFrenchEgg · 07/11/2022 09:08

I'm doing £100 a month standing order plus then I'll do random amounts - first I'm saving for £500 to open a five year account for uni savings. Think I can't bank in winning PBs to get the kid through three years 😂

Myleakycauldron · 08/11/2022 19:04

I saw a tweet from a £100k winner (under a Martin Lewis tweet) who said they didn't get a phone call but found out on the prize checker! And then they had a letter to sign and got the funds 5 days later!

Eaumyword · 08/11/2022 19:49

The £100k winner on the Facebook PB page found out same time as when you discover you've won £25!
She logged into the prizes checker and it said she'd won £100,000 plus £25!
No phone call etc.
She then received a letter like you describe @Myleakycauldron.
That would be just amazing.

Whatadisgrace · 08/11/2022 21:19

Did you all see Martin Lewis talking about premium bonds just now?

He had a graph which basically said that if you have above approx £1400 your percentage return is pretty much the same, all the way up to having the full holding. I don't know if I explained that at all well 😆

Yes..... didn't really understand that graph or his dislike of PB, as 1: PB are instant access so no point comparing with fixed rate savings and 2: Having had 50k then 10k and now 40k, i've definitely found the more you have, the more you win, when i had 10k (for 6months, i won nothing).... to me that seems obv.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 09/11/2022 08:52

His graph was just showing what the Median win is at each holding, at anything over about £1,400 you should win roughly the same % (2.2 currently) as someone with £50k which is what NS&I advise too.
I was saying to DP as we were watching 'but he's not accounting for winning the million!' but as Martin then said, he's a numbers man so his advise is based on that and not the 'gambling' aspect.

Going to hazard a guess and say that if you can afford 30 or 40k + in PB's probably not that bothered about a % or 2 ?

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 09/11/2022 09:20

@Alexandra2001 I would say the opposite actually, the difference between say 2.2% PB's or a 3% saving account is much bigger the more money you have.
I understand why PB's aren't Martins first recommendation but if you only have say under £5k saved, the interest you are earning still isn't much even at 3% so I don't think the idea of PB's should be written off at that amount because you still have the chance to win big at least!

Pemba · 09/11/2022 12:43

Where did Martin Lewis say this, was it on his evening show? Would like to watch what he said.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 09/11/2022 12:58

Yes he was talking about them last night, around the last 15 mins of his show.

AutumnCrow · 09/11/2022 13:19

He had to really rattle through it because a couple of tedious members of the public earlier in the show didn't ask their questions succinctly; they went oooon. (Those two blokes on zoom.) One told an long-winded anecdote about his dead FiL and another decided to let us know really slooowly that he follows the stock market badly. That then meant that Martin had to speed up like the clappers towards the end of the live programme to fit it all in.

I think he should ban questions from the public unless they're pre-recorded. Tbh it works fine when either M or A read them out in the studio.

I also thought Greg the CEO of Octopus was very good.
