I am suffering for universal credits mistake!

Hi, I'm a single mum I work full time and my wage just covers my rent and bills, for the rest of the month I rely on my universal credit payment.

This month however due to human error at the universal credit office they have reported my take-home pay as £3000!!!!! It's not even half of that, I have been on and off the phone to them, writing in my journal, I should have been paid today, I've told them I have absolutely zero pence in the bank and noone to help me but I've basically been told its tough and I have to wait for the case manager to look into it. Has anyone else had this happen? I literally don't know where our next meal I'd coming from ,almost out of nappies, I'm absolutely desperate ,I can't see any way out of this mess right now.

I don’t know the answer, so bumping for you, but isn’t there an emergency payment UC can make for people when they initially join before their first payment is due? Can you get them to issue you something under this, as they have acknowledged it was there issue?

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 05/05/2022 18:55

*their, ffs

Norush4 · 05/05/2022 18:55

Is there anybody at all that can lend you money? I've had erros with my childcare costs not been paid or approved in time.. it took a week or so to sort it out and I had to ring numerous times daily.

Always check your statement so if you get paid on the 17th of each month you will get a preview of your expected payment around the 13th of each month. I check this in case of any errors I have a good 4 days to report or ring UC.

I hope you get sorted OP.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 05/05/2022 18:56

Can you call them and ask for an emergency advance? You’ll have to pay it back but it would see you through for now.

Findingneeemo · 05/05/2022 18:56

Can you contact your MP and ask/beg them to assist?

My friends got messed up and they didn’t even apologise. They said we will review it in x days. If it was a bank making such an error it would be a regulated complaint, even if the person wasn’t financially affected. UC is terrifying as you never really know if the money will be there and correct despite it being so crucial for people to keep their head above water.

Can you ask a friend if they will feed you in the mean time? I’d happily have a friend and their kids over for a few meals in this situation. I’d contact their mp for them too!

You work full time and take home less then £1500? Is that even minimum wage ?

GrazingSheep · 05/05/2022 18:57

Have you family, friends or neighbours who can help you ?

PaniniHead · 05/05/2022 18:59

It’s not from UC. Earnings are reported via the HMRC from your employer. Are you paid 4 weekly?

BounceQueen · 05/05/2022 19:12

Can you get a food bank referral from your doctor?

Any family or friends that can help you?

I find UC much more helpful on the phone and have had all issues corrected by 6pm the next day when I ring. They will ignore journal posts forevermore though.

Ash13490 · 05/05/2022 19:23

I already had the advance when I first applied before Christmas so I'm not allowed another. So far they haven't claimed responsibility, I'm waiting for them to investigate, but I have been to payroll at my work and they showed me the exact document they sent to universal credit and it had my correct take home pay on it so the only ones who could have made the mistake is them. It's so frustrating, like pulling teeth, I bet they would be alot quicker if I owed them money.

Wtf this has happened to me with my earnings too!!!! I’ve left countless messages no reply how weird!

Cakeandcoffee93 · 05/05/2022 19:25

Exactly 3000 also

Ash13490 · 05/05/2022 19:26

I've phoned 3 times, the people I speak to initially are great, unfortunately they can't tell when the case manager will have looked at my case

Bubbles2022 · 05/05/2022 19:27

Are you paid every four weeks?

Ash13490 · 05/05/2022 19:27

No way!! What is going on? Very strange that they put the exact same amount for both of us, I wonder how many more this has happened to

Jeez course you can take home less than £1500 on minimum wage 🙄

Cakeandcoffee93 · 05/05/2022 19:34

Well I owe my daughters nursery fees tomorrow and can’t afford to lend 900… this happened in September 2021 and it took 2 months to resolve !! No one is replying I don’t know what I’m going to do tbh. Only thing I would say is the case managers are normally at the makers field centre maybe call them direct?!i will be doing the same tomorrow

Norush4 · 05/05/2022 19:36

@Cubangal someone is struggling and is in need and that's all you have to suggest? Snobby!

Cherrysherbet · 05/05/2022 19:37

Evening Boris

Cherrysherbet · 05/05/2022 19:41

I really feel for you op. It’s like talking to robots. It’s their mistake ffs. Do they not realise the stress this causes? There should be a system in place that can fix these type of situations on the same day. I’m sure it would be something so easy to sort out…….probably have to tap a couple of buttons! Makes me sick. I hope they sort it soon 💐

Ash13490 · 05/05/2022 19:43

Hi, I did check my statement, unfortunately it was bank Holiday weekend so was unable to get hold of anyone until Tuesday
