Hi, I'm a single mum I work full time and my wage just covers my rent and bills, for the rest of the month I rely on my universal credit payment.

This month however due to human error at the universal credit office they have reported my take-home pay as £3000!!!!! It's not even half of that, I have been on and off the phone to them, writing in my journal, I should have been paid today, I've told them I have absolutely zero pence in the bank and noone to help me but I've basically been told its tough and I have to wait for the case manager to look into it. Has anyone else had this happen? I literally don't know where our next meal I'd coming from ,almost out of nappies, I'm absolutely desperate ,I can't see any way out of this mess right now.

Mumsnet is a scammers paradise.
Usually late at night
Well worn path of -
no nappies or baby food
no money for electricity
no family or friends to ask for help
Thats why MNHQ post their warning to posters who may be tempted to offer money

You work full time and take home less then £1500? Is that even minimum wage ?

Of course it is. £9.50 p/h for 37.5 hrs a week gives you a take home of £1349 per month.

Hi op I'm also on universal credits same sort of hours. If you join a Facebook group for benefits they have been invaluable to me and know their stuff. I'm sorry I don't know the answer buy they should be able to help x

This is bizarre. The same thing happened to me last month. My reported earnings was £3000. I only get support with some childcare and luckily, school understood and have let me use the club and just pay it off. Never got a response online and phone call just told me that that's what I've earned. I even sent them letters and emails from payroll to state it wasn't. I even told them, if I was earning 3000 a month, I wouldn't need that little extra help.

I still haven't got it sorted as they don't care. I'm just paying extra every month to clear the payment with clubs.

You can journal message your UC case manager and ask to start an RTI dispute if you think your income has been reported to UC incorrectly by HMRC. This will start an investigation process, though they may have already done this.

The way it works:

Employer reports earnings to HMRC

HMRC inform UC

UC use income reported to calculate your payment.

If HMRC have reported twice within your assessment period (AP) then this will adversely affect your UC payment. Unfortunately this can happen, as PP said, if you get paid early because of Bank Holiday and two lots of wages will fall in the same AP

Thanks very much, I will speak with them today, and thanks for everyone else's replies and advice, I haven't been ignoring you all, passed ou on the sofa last night with the dreaded tonsillitis (no doubt stress induced!) Well they say things come in 3's......x

Sounds like your employer reported to the HMRC the actual date they paid you (early due to the bank holiday), instead of your normal pay date. So you’ve ended up with two lots of earnings in one AP. The HMRC notify employers not to report the earlier pay date. But there are some who always get it wrong. Your employer should be able to correct this themselves via the RTI with the HMRC
