With the mystery shopper ones, do you have to use your identifiable social media accounts for reviews .... or can you make new ones?

redgirl1 · 28/04/2021 19:33

@Catawaul back in January when I was in a home school nervous breakdown I missed the target by around 150 and I emailed them the day before cut off to explain I wouldn’t make it and why and they said it’s ok this once so you may as well give it a try.
I decided a week ago to give up, I have been on it a while but the lack of surges and work in general has made it a struggle for very little reward.

Starofmine1 · 28/04/2021 19:34

Can anyone please help me as I'm very new to Appen.
I signed up for the 3 Facebook data collector projects beginning with N. I have recieved an email from each one saying 'You have been invited to work for a new project: New*um! You are eligible to join the project, the qualification workflow should take less than one minute to complete!'
However there is no link in the email and when I log in to Appen there is nothing for me to click on related to this. And under the projects I have applied for it says that these 3 are still under review and there is nothing more for me to do.

I'm just confused as the email seems to suggest I have been approved to work on these projects. Do I just need to wait for another email or do you think there has been an error?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Catawaul · 28/04/2021 19:39

@redgirl1 Thanks, that's helpful. I will email if I don't make it. Yes, I don't think I've seen any surges this month. I missed a week and have struggled to catch up. I will have to apply for something else as this is the only extra work I do.

redgirl1 · 28/04/2021 19:48

@Catawaul I much prefer Appen and I just can’t keep up with both on top of my day job. I’m making about £300 per month from Appen at the moment which suits me fine.

redgirl1 · 28/04/2021 19:50

@Starofmine1 normally there is a link in the email. It might be you have only received the confirmation so far. Usually there are regular emails with the links in them.

Catawaul · 28/04/2021 19:52

@redgirl1 oh that's a really good amount! I will investigate that, thanks!

lotionInTheBasket · 28/04/2021 22:09

@AnotherOne4 yes I got the N**vo one this morning and can't bring myself to attempt it yet as the instructions were so confusing.

I hate the ones where you have to almost memorise the strange terms these use for things or else keep having to constantly refer to the instructions when you're doing the task.
I really need to the money too as I've not done anything for ages.

felineflutter · 29/04/2021 09:47

Can I dip into this thread please?

I have been doing Potato since November and haven't even bothered to cash in my invoices as my pay has been below £50 each month. I have been logging on and not finding much content to moderate and I am not prepared to hang around waiting. TBH they have been reasonable and I am on my second warning for low content(didn't put in any content last month) and will get the push if it is low again.

So... Potatoes has the content picked up and should I give it one last push before I throw in the towel? Is Appen an equal rival or something easy to work at alongside?

Redcrayons · 29/04/2021 11:12

@felineflutter Potato has been dire for me this month. Managed to get lucky with a couple of shifts earlier in the month but I’ve only just about scraped over the minimum. I’ve been trying to do an hour a day just to keep it going, but not even getting to 100 most days.

When I first started last year the queues were always around 100-200, so this is kind of similar. They had a massive recruitment drive last year when content went off the charts and so now there’s loads more RAs for the same amount of work. So difficult to predict when it’s going to kick off.

Appen is great, pay is much better but you can go weeks without anything.

MollysMum09 · 29/04/2021 12:36

I've passed S*land on Appen, am waiting for an SRT login. If the actual work is like the test, that will suit me, it seems quite straightforward. I had a project a while ago and just didn't get on with it, the guideliens were horrible and I felt like I was guessing at every answer.

I'm also waiting to receive the Lionbridge exam which should be here any day now.

The thing with all this work is that you have to try and make hay while the sun shines, because the nature of it all being 'freelance' is that there are zero guarantees about how long it will last or even if it will be available in the first place.

MrsWombat · 29/04/2021 12:45

I'm just about going to scrap the 1000 items by the skin of my teeth. Glad they give you a couple of warnings. I'm crossing my fingers things pick up.

Poppylife · 29/04/2021 13:00

Just signed up to Appen and I was expecting them to ask for my CV or resume when I registered but they didn't. Did I miss something out or do they ask for it at a later date?

MiddlesexGirl · 29/04/2021 13:36

They'll ask at a later date

user1471467504 · 29/04/2021 13:36

Just after a bit more advice. I have completed a few tasks on Appen all are generated invoices, but when I have looked at my invoices only one task has been invoiced. The tasks have been completed from 7th April to now - should I be worried?

MiddlesexGirl · 29/04/2021 13:54

Have started doing a few bits and pieces on Intellizoom and Qmee. Mostly very small but they can be done in small bits of spare time and they do add up. Maybe they will dry up after I've done a few!

MiddlesexGirl · 29/04/2021 13:56

@user1471467504 I think they've had a problem with their invoicing for some projects as they sent me an apology for something I hadn't even noticed! But they've always been responsive when I've contacted them with queries.

Thank you for that, I will contact them.

ruralwanderer · 29/04/2021 14:18

Potato is hideous this month. I'm trying to make the minimum but struggling as there's just so little content. Almost at 900 items so hoping that if I can keep logging on for 20 minutes every time I have spare time I'll just make it by the skin of my teeth.

louisejxxx · 29/04/2021 14:38

Lurker just popping out to say hi 👋

Just wanted to say thank you for all the contributions to this thread - after reading in Jan I signed up to Clickworker but hadn’t put much effort in. Pushed myself earlier this week to try and do more and have now started on Intellizoom and Prolific, both of which I’m finding easier to use and less laborious.

My goal is to make £60 a month to go towards my daughters gymnastics classes - she’s just been asked to move up to a squad and the monthly fees have gone up by that much. Already reached that and more in April, so am excited to see how much I can get in May 😀

MarigoldMoonStone · 29/04/2021 15:07

Just to reassure people who might be panicking about Potato - I have not reached the minimum multiple times, the only time I even received an email about it was when I also hadn't logged in for over 3 weeks. Since then I haven't reached the minimum several times. I have never emailed them about it. I'm still on it :)

MarigoldMoonStone · 29/04/2021 15:34

Project page on Ap has gone crazy, so many more been put on there in the last week. Just applied for lots so hopefully get something!
If anyone hasn't looked at their All Projects tab for a while go check!!

Catatemyhomework · 29/04/2021 16:05

Piece rates for April's round of Sho**e are on my invoice. Looks like all have been accepted thankfully. Relieved as was my first time on the project. Now really hoping I get picked for May's round.

WhatsGoin · 29/04/2021 16:09

Can anyone offer advice, I signed up for clickworker and completed the assessment for uhrs, follow instructions exactly and linked the live id to them. Then the last step said to enter live id into the 2 boxes. I copied and pasted it exactly and it said it was wrong?? Now its saying in clickworker that I failed the assessment with a score of 0% very confused!

seizethecuttlefish · 29/04/2021 18:13

So I'm not the only one who has a rubbish potato month! I sat on for an hour this morning (while listening to an online course) and made £4! Also nothing from the 2 sporadic Ap projects that usually give me a few hours a month. My LB project is meant to be 10 hrs a week and I've had 3 hrs for the whole month. Even prolific has been quiet.

I have some freelance work, it won't pay for a while but at least it's coming in.

Those of us who are ticking along, share your tips and hidden gems? Did we have some matched betting experts here? Maybe that might suit some? Is uTest still good for some?

For me, striking a balance has been my biggest learning curve and switching off. I schedule time to work and stick to it. I also have a routine, I open my browser and load all my regular stuff and see what's what.

If anyone I'd registered as self employed, you might be eligible for SEISS.
