Hi, really thick question but someone explain to me a potato surge. I think I see one now but never really sure what I'm looking for.

TheSeedsOfADream · 24/10/2020 12:00

Unless you're on the special bits a surge is just when there's loads of things in the Mod2 and Monitoring queues.
There are special bits where you get paid extra (think they are called "combat" or sth)

Like if I open up and there are 30 items in the queue I don't bother. Early mornings there can be up to 2000.

ElectricEels · 24/10/2020 12:24

@Madre77 a 1.2 surge for example means you get 1.2 times the pay for those items while the surge is on.

seizethecuttlefish · 24/10/2020 12:25

@Madre77 surges are the dream. A mythical beast that is sometimes glanced briefly. They can be there for about 15 mins and a message will go up on group chat. Then there's an increased pay rate in this time. It's a thing of beauty. I know a couple of people who just "ride" these and do ok but there are weeks when you don't see any.

The other thing is getting invited on shifts. My understanding (as I don't do them) is you get a regular hourly rate for them but it's very competitive trying to get one. They go up and are sucked up in minutes, from what I've seen.

MrsWombat · 24/10/2020 12:58

@Madre77 Basically you get 1.7 or whatever the usual rate is. The dashboard will only show the standard pay and the surge amount will appear around 6.30am the following day. Generally, they only last 15 mins. But sometimes longer especially late evening or overnight.

Madre77 · 24/10/2020 13:24

Thank you all. Super helpful 🥰

Tattiespuds · 24/10/2020 13:49

That's my crisp assessment done... I won't lie I flapped. I started to get into it and relaxed a bit then was seeing outcomes I should have previously selected. So a bit miffed with myself that I rushed the first say 30 or so items. So although I actually enjoyed it I think I wasted for myself.
I've not been interviewed or tested in a long while.

TheSeedsOfADream · 24/10/2020 14:35

Don't worry about it Tattie. I was kicking myself because I hadn't seen we were supposed to stop at however many and I just kept going. I passed anyway. I think the assessment is more of a training tbh, and once you're at that stage, you're in.

Tattiespuds · 24/10/2020 15:18

@TheSeedsOfADream I hope so. I just worked the (nearly) 30mins I reviews about 70 or so items 😂 just hope i didn't answer too many incorrectly. Probs won't hear back til Monday.

No one has ever said they failed it. I actually didn't even manage 30 as I took far too long trying to decide and not mess up. So I was amazed when I got the email saying I had passed.

Someone else said they didn't do the required 30 and they too passed. I honestly think they pass just about everyone

Tattiespuds · 24/10/2020 15:48

I (selfishly) really hope they do just pass anyone. I will report back my result when I hear back.

lynsey91 · 24/10/2020 15:51

I will keep everything crossed for you. I know I definitely didn't pass and yet here I am working for them!

I almost fainted when I got the acceptance email

MrsWombat · 24/10/2020 17:36

I've just sold my first KDP book. Grin

This is basically what i'm doing:
www.secondhalfdreams.com/22719/kdp-series-what-are-low-content-books/ (not my blog!)

Tattiespuds · 24/10/2020 18:32

Thanks all, gives me hope I have passed. I just want the email to tell me either way.

@MrsWombat what's a KDP book? Sorry if that's really obvious

TheSeedsOfADream · 24/10/2020 19:58

I just got my welcome email to November's A* project- the one where you get to keep the goods. I can't remember who else is on it, I'll search in a mo' but I wondered how long it takes you to get reimbursed and did that all go smoothly?

MrsWombat · 24/10/2020 21:43

@Tattiespuds It's Kindle Direct Publishing. Authors use it to self publish books or people like me make notebooks in various niches. You upload the book to Amazon as a PDF and they print on demand when people buy it. If you know your way around powerpoint and have access to basic graphic software it's worth looking into.

Tattiespuds · 24/10/2020 22:08

sounds brill @MrsWombat good luck with it! hope you get some sales.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/10/2020 09:54

Good luck with your book @MrsWombat and yes, hope you get some good sales in before Christmas.

On average how much would you say you'd earn from Prolific in a month? £30? More? Less?

TeddyDidIt · 25/10/2020 11:27

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I signed up to Prolific around a month ago and I've earned £35. I don't have it open on a desktop all day or anything like that though (limited working hours due to toddler plus 2 school-aged DC). I look a few times a day on my phone and I frequently miss the ones I do see, so I'm sure a higher amount is possible. I have been lucky to get a couple of £5 ones for 30 minutes at convenient times though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/10/2020 12:13

Thanks for your experience @TeddyDidIt. Every little helps, doesn't it? I managed to earn 88p 'after hours' on Friday - last of the big earners, me!!!

Not finding this past month very lucrative.

Tattiespuds · 25/10/2020 18:15

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I signed up months ago and have £9.75 I admit I don't check it everyday because i got a bit huffy with it I kept getting screened out and nothing was every showing for me.

DownThePlath · 25/10/2020 22:23

Really slow month for me. Still haven't been given the tool from A for T* so that's annoying. Lost my survey mojo massively too. Bleh. Hopefully next month is better

anxiouswaiting · 25/10/2020 22:54

Just had an e-mail to do the qualification quiz for Am**! Been waiting soooo long and reapplied several times for that project. Exited!

YonderTweek · 25/10/2020 23:12

Ooh @anxiouswaiting! That's exciting. 😁 I would love a new project. I have applied to literally all of them but it's not been very fruitful so far. Luckily K### picked up again this week so I should be getting some more monies this month. It's just a lot of hours but I got into a nice pattern now so it's bearable for now.

Ahh, Prolific. I signed up a couple of months ago and thought I did ok at first (£30-£50 per month) but I can't seem to get onto well paid studies now, and granted, I don't check it as much anymore. I've made £20 this month and I'd love to do one that pays more than a quid. 😂I generally enjoy the studies though so that's a plus.

Buster27 · 25/10/2020 23:18

@anxiouswaiting me too! I've just passed the test Grin was almost as nervous as when I did the potato test!
