Thanks YetAnotherRaninyDay - I didn't know you could do that. Il give it a go

MoonlightMistletoe · 26/04/2020 14:42

Hello everyone,

I saw this thread and couldn't not take a read, I signed up to 20cogs, however I am now worrying I am going to have lots of subscriptions I am unaware of 🤦🏻‍♀️

I am no way experienced with this stuff so I am hoping anyone could help me out with where to start and the basics for a first timer. Thankyou.

lynsey91 · 26/04/2020 14:59

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 how long did it take you to do that many of the Neevo transcriptions?

I have done 400 but they are driving me mad. Just about every one of them is wrong and the longer ones take a while to make the changes

Kaylsar · 26/04/2020 15:17

@moonlightmistletoe make sure you go back to each cog and if theres any subscriptions just cancel them. I try and avoid the subscription ones, the Disney one was a one week trial so I signed up and cancelled it. Best to always keep track of things.

flameprincess · 26/04/2020 15:51

@moonlightmistletoe - I did 20 cogs - it took some time and admittedly I forgot to cancel some subscriptions but still make £100 profit.
I'd advise to set dates on your mobile phone calendar of when you need to cancel subscriptions so you don't forget - and when you've completed a task take a screenshot just incase it doesn't clear.

MoonlightMistletoe · 26/04/2020 16:20

@Kaylsar @flameprincess Thankyou so much, I will definitely go back and take notes that way I can keep track. I am only on cog3!

Also when I take an offer it's like a spiders web... the survey for example will lead onto other surveys if I click yes to a question. Am I doing this right ? Somehow I ended up with an amazon draw to win however the last hurdle you have to pay for things, if I decline those will it effect the original cog? Sorry Blush

flameprincess · 26/04/2020 16:37

@moonlightmistletoe - normally the cog will have specific steps on it that you have to complete e.g 1. complete 2 surveys so double check this before you click to go through to the partner site.

A lot of the offers will try and get you to sign up to other things or complete more surveys etc when you go through to the external site, it wont affect the original qualifying offer set by 20 cogs if you dont do them. For example one of mine was 99p for some slots on a gambling sites which I completed but afterwards they wanted to get me to complete more offers within that site, I didn't and it was fine.

If ANY seem to convuluted then just don't complete them and change your offer or go back in a few days and see if anything else to complete instead. 20cogs is a long game took me about 2 months to complete all as sometimes there were just no offers I liked or the steps to complete seemed a finicky haha.

flameprincess · 26/04/2020 16:38

To those who are using Freelancers - I signed up today and put a bid in on a basic word processing job. Got a response quite quickly with more info on the job (pays around $350) but to take the job they want a $100 security deposit. Obviously I won't be doing that I can't confirm they would like my work but is it common to receive requests for security deposits??

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/04/2020 17:08

@lynsey91 quite a while probably about 10 hours or so? Some of them are impossible if there's lots of mumbling and mhs and uhs. Some people don't speak very coherently even in customer service roles it would appear!

Strangely I find it easier to decipher Australian English than English/Scottish/Welsh English!

It would be useful to see examples of perfect transcripts (and long ones including email addresses with proper nouns spelled out) matched against the audio recording. Although there are the guidelines, I'm not convinced by acoustic noises vs non-speech. Some of it is subjective.

Kaylsar · 26/04/2020 17:51

@flameprincess no way should you be paying anything, only the employer creates a milestone which is the total cost of the work.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/04/2020 18:16

A potato question.
I've received emails "inviting" me to sign up to about 4 "things" which seem to be connected to potato, 3 sent by the person who emailed me the test etc. So I signed up to them all and haven't a clue what any of them are.
In the meantime, another person sent an email inviting me to a dashboard thing, which is there, with que etc. none of it clickable to me. On the left is a drop-down where I can click on "my dashboard" but when I do that, it tells me I'm not entitled to see that part of the site.
I have dutifully read all the wiki things but where do I find the actual tasks? I'm terrified of being kicked off for not working before I've even found the work! Am I in the right place? Does the que thing become clicky if there's work?
Sorry to be yet another newbie bombarding you all-Brew

justtheonethen · 26/04/2020 18:35

@TheCanterburyWhales have sent you a pm

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/04/2020 18:38

Thank you so much! Flowers

Catatemyhomework · 26/04/2020 18:52

Anyone done any of the voice recording tasks on Neevo? You have to download the app onto your phone. I have done the first 15. Waiting for next batch.

ifuckarses · 26/04/2020 19:14

Is there definitely no more tasks for anyone on B* the task page says there is, but I'm guessing it's just not been updated. Just hope I've not been kicked off!

Catatemyhomework · 26/04/2020 19:46

@ifuckarses, none for me. I only managed an hour in total. My fault though, couldn't get motivated. By the time I did this morning there were none left.

527040minutes · 26/04/2020 20:32

Anyone else feeling a bit dejected this month? I can't seem to get going with anything, made all of about £25. Trying to get something like freelancer to click but the only responses I seem to be getting are scams. Beginning to wonder if it's worth the effort for the hours I'm putting in given I'm yet to have a month where I actually make much. Not sure how much is lockdown, and how much is genuine thinking it over :/

Catatemyhomework · 26/04/2020 20:56

@527040minutes, I am the same. My April total will be good but only because I count my monthly earnings as when it is paid, so march was a good month with Appen. Paid in April. May's total will be terrible though if things don't pick up soon. I haven't earned much so far apart from Neevo work. Swings and roundabouts. I try not worry too much. You never know what tomorrow brings especially in this line of work.

tinyradish · 26/04/2020 21:14

It is very disheartening.

Just managed 12 tasks on the neevo transcription before it ran out. Grin That's me done for the day, lol.

527040minutes · 26/04/2020 21:16

@Catatemyhomework I'm giving up for a day or two to reset I think. Have a website to finish off for the place I normally freelance with for a couple of hours a week, unpaid but it's been half done for too long now. Thinking I potentially need to re-evaluate and put a proper plan together, because my free time's worth more than I'm managing to bring in atm!

Catatemyhomework · 26/04/2020 21:29

Also, I don't think our current situation is helping, with so much uncertainty with coronavirus. Plus kids at home. It's all quite stressful. I'm trying not to be too hard on myself. Just trying to be thankful for what I have. Sounds a bit trite I know, but been feeling a bit down today and sometimes think I just need a good kick up the arse! Grin . @527040minutes, the website sounds interesting. Will also give you more skills. @tinyradish, hang in there. Things are very up and down at the moment. Motivation is low for many of us. We will hopefully have the Neevo calls tomorrow! Smile

unicornpoopoop · 26/04/2020 21:50

Got onto lionbridge for the first time and did just 3 tasks before it said no more work. Is that normal? Was looking forward to this one as I feel like I have to use my brain a lot more than with bane but I did all of that revision and test taking for just 15 minutes of work today 🙁

527040minutes · 26/04/2020 22:50

@Catatemyhomework it's a skill I've already got in the level I'll be using it (I'm only basic, but so is this), but thinking I can use the written bits and web search optimisation to start building a portfolio. Plus its been annoying me for years now that it's never been finished so it's well overdue Blush

NCforsafety · 27/04/2020 11:48

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 watch out for Neevo - I've given up on the Aus ones as they have decided to only pay me for 66 out of the 1000 I have done. They won't provide any proof that I've made errors on over 900 of them and won't accept the logic argument that if I passed every quality control one they put in then virtually every other one was incorrect. So I've received payment for 6.6% of what I've done. (Every other task of transcription I have been paid fully for so don't think its an issue with my correction and transcription skills)

anxiouswaiting · 27/04/2020 11:53

Just came on to ask how people find the Neevo Australian tasks but I won't bother after seeing your experience @NCforsafety!

E-mail says $0.05usd per task and each task takes around 1 minute (was going to ask if people were finding that to be true!). aif correct then it's a measly $3 per hour! That is awful
