Yes, 'unpaid sales rep' is a closer definition than 'independent business owner' for what the bots are.
However, the whole point of the MLM pyramid is that the majority of the cash that feeds the top layers comes from within the scheme, not genuine sales to the outside world. Recent comments on how bots do at Xmas fayres etc. illustrate this perfectly- the products cannot compete on price, quality or basic usefulness on the open market: the bots are the end customers.
To maintain her foothold in the pyramid, Nurse is spending much more money than she makes from it. This is where Yawn makes her income from.
Especially now that FL is going down the pan, no one that Yawn takes on is going to 'succeed'.
Her business is increasingly recruiting anybody and everybody still uninformed enough to fall fo her spiel and taking her cut from their starter pack. Most of them will not last long enough to make her much more than that.
Those that do last longer, like nurse, are just cash cows (albeit skinny ones) that Yawn will farm for as long as possible. If she were to cut the likes of Nurse loose, she would have no 'business' left. It matters not a jot whether she is successful or not (Yawn knows she's not cut out for it even if there was a chance of 'succeeding'), as long as she hangs in there, she is a source of income.
