lol @BlackCatFan a couple of people logged off straight after seeing me yesterday and I did wonder if they were thinking eew no! trying not to take it too personally!

bananamuffin99 · 11/08/2019 13:18

@wolfff ahhh that's ok then, I'll register and see if I'm accepted.

So I heard back from Cloudworkers today, asking me to arrange a time for the interview. Only issue is they say not to use chrome or safari as they're tempermental, well I only have a chromebook and it's really hard to install firefox on it. FFS this just seems like more hassle than it's worth right now! I'm just going to try with chrome and hope for the best.

StudentHelp · 11/08/2019 15:22

I’ve done topcashback for years plus receipt apps which I find I can make about £15 a month on which ain’t a lot but takes seconds.
I use some mystery shopping style apps too but need to up my game.

I’ve started using airtime rewards also and have just applied to prolific, user crowd and angelfish

ShinyButtons · 11/08/2019 15:36

@bananamuffin99 I used chrome for cloud workers and never had any trouble. I'm sure they never mentioned not using before, unless I missed it.

seizethecuttlefish · 11/08/2019 16:31

@bananamuffin99 I use chrome and have no problems. My training was all via Skype chat and there was no interview really. I wonder if they've changed something in the last couple of weeks?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 11/08/2019 17:48

Those of you on Appen how long did it take to get work? I've registered on both Global and Connect but only had acknowledgements. I also looked at Lionbridge but they don't seem to have any vacancies showing for UK, I have emailed them though.

FloofenHoofen · 11/08/2019 19:14

So what do you actually have to do on Cambly then pisspants? I've signed up using your referral but can't really figure out what it is I'm supposed to be doing. I can see you can block book hours, is it teaching people or something? What did you actually have to do in the session?

FloofenHoofen · 11/08/2019 19:16

Ok just realised that the block booking is for me to have a lesson not for me to actually teach anything. I don't think I've signed up as a teacher here!

pisspants · 11/08/2019 19:26

@FloofenHoofen I applied as a teacher a while back (probably about 6 weeks ago) then heard back from them on Thursday. Once you've been accepted you record a short welcome video and you can then book priority hours. You then sit there as "visible" for that full hour but have to log on a few mins before to check your internet connection. I did an hour this afternoon and it took me a few goes to get through the check as I think my internet had gone a bit slow. Calls then start to come through, you click to accept. You then see yourself in a small thumbnail and see the student more largely. You quickly introduce yourself and then start chatting. I haven't taught anything as such yet just had a chat with the people. I think some are just doing a free trial (the ones who have 5 mins) but others are subscribers and have 15,30 or 60 minute sessions booked. I think the aim is to book regular students and I guess if you have this you start doing something a bit more structured. So far I have spoken to 13 different students, most from Saudi Arabia so far and a couple from Brazil.

Wolfff · 11/08/2019 19:26

@tinkywinkyshandbag

Re Appen Connect. I applied at the beginning of last month. I was offered a couple of short projects straight away but it took 3 days or so to be up and running with the logins and paperwork. I was offered a long term project (an hour a day) within another couple of days so was earning regularly just after a week after application.

However because of the way payment works I won’t be paid until after the 14th as you invoice in arrears on the 1st of the month and they payment is made on the 14th and may go into your bank later. So 6 weeks from registration to payment.

I also registered for Appen global later in the month. I have only done the infamous 202 project and it hasn’t been approved for payment yet.

FloofenHoofen · 11/08/2019 19:50

Thanks pisspants I realised I needed to flick to tutor through the settings and went through the check thing. I can't do an audio vid right now but will probably give it a go tomorrow when I've got more free time!

WizardOfAus · 11/08/2019 19:59

Hey all, I've just signed up for Appen.. for those already working for them, how long did it take to receive confirmation you were successful?

pisspants · 11/08/2019 20:00

exactly the sort of thing I do @FloofenHoofen!
thanks for clicking on the referral tooSmile

tinkywinkyshandbag · 11/08/2019 20:44

@Wolfff thanks I have to say I don't find their websites very user friendly but hope something comes of it.

Hoping I might here back from cloudworkers today, currently sitting on cambly but had no calls through, I messed up an appen thing so now worriee I won't get anymore. Did a lot of palfish at the weekend but having a complete break today so I don't lose my mind pointing to fish and dog for the millionth time Grin Waiting to hear back from another interview I did this morning from a teaching English online thing and waiting to know if I'm through to final stages of a test on utest.

Basically I'm waiting on everything GrinGrin. Oh and waiting on crisp which is my ideal one, but know it can be months.

justtheonethen · 12/08/2019 08:55

Got an email saying that isoftstone speech one is indefinitely on hold 🙄

ThirdThoughts · 12/08/2019 08:58

Newbie alert! I have read this thread, the first one and one in the middle, what a great idea. How are you doing towards your year goal now Otterses? Do you still keep track?

I'm already self-employed - artist. I made my first sale to a stranger last month. Only £40 but it feels like a milestone rather than just selling to friends/family occasionally. I am a bit rubbish at self promotion but I know what I need to do to market my work so that's what I need to invest some time in.

I also have another side hustle idea related to my art skills (Print on Demand related) that I want to work on.

The house needs decluttered so I can Facebook marketplace/eBay/etc my way to a bit of extra cash too.

After reading these threads I have signed up to Crisp (19/20 first time) and I am looking into the other things mentioned. Not sure I have much of a CV to send to Appen though - SAHM/WAHM for ages and not much before that. But this sort of flexible, WAH paid work would help a lot in bridging the gap until I can earn from my own business ideas.

Motivation: We have some credit card debt (at 0% thank goodness) that I want to get rid of and build up some savings instead And long term I want to take the pressure off of DH who is unhappy in his job, if I can be earning too and we can be debt free, that maybe gives him options to reduce his hours or chose something else closer to home.

ThirdThoughts · 12/08/2019 09:06

Urgh, I keep losing my paragraphs on the app, sorry.

Also I wanted to say, I listen to a daily podcast called "Side Hustle School" that I think some of you might like. It's a 10min story of someone who has found a way to make a side income usually with minimal start up costs, and it has been going 2 years now so plenty of ideas to hear through its back catalogue.

His thing is building something for yourself (like a business) rather than just a second/third job - (or MLMs) and I think that's a good place to be aiming for long term.

whatthewhatthewhat · 12/08/2019 09:31

Bit worried haven't been paid by Crisp yet? Thought it was the 10th of the month???

justtheonethen · 12/08/2019 09:38

@whatthewhatthewhat statements by the 10th working day of the month then either same/next day for PayPal or longer for bank transfer.

Wish they would get a move on though Grin

justtheonethen · 12/08/2019 09:40

It's been the 7th working day the last two months and today is the 8th so fingers crossed

whatthewhatthewhat · 12/08/2019 09:47

@justtheonethen hope so!

margaritasbythesea · 12/08/2019 09:56

Hi ThirdThoughts

Zebrimid - may I ask what other teaching English online thing?

I haven't been paid by Appen yet although it has been approved. Everyone on their hols I guess!

Bemystarlord · 12/08/2019 10:01
