MLMs/ Network Marketing: Thread 45

Spongebobette · 05/12/2018 12:24

This is the 45th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, Monat, Stella and Dot, Tropic, various slimroast/weight loss coffee MLMs and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs.
The reality is that 97% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

Hi. I've been lurking for a long while as I have lost a couple of friends over the past year or so to Arbonne and FL. I've become fascinated by MLMs and spend way too much time bot-watching and reading anti-mlm blogs etc. I thought it was about time I said hi as recently an acquaintance has joined Yawn's team and it suddenly clicked that Yawn is your Yawn, and is local and known to me! I obviously can't say too much on a public forum but the anti MLM movement is growing in this city following FL's attempts to associate itself with Women's Aid and Rape Crisis a few months ago. The local media are extremely supportive and a national BBC station are collecting testimonies from "victims" to be aired in the spring. I really hope this is the beginning of the end.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 30/12/2018 20:14

Welcome Galadali

What you're saying about the BBC looking into that sounds interesting. Are you able to say any more about the situation?

BSintolerant · 30/12/2018 20:18

Welcome Galadali - how is the local media helping? Are there any links to local news reports to be had in the Worcester Times, or the Biscester Times?

I'm sniggering at the thought of an unfiltered
W A N T E D ! ! ! photo in a local rag warning people not to approach this MLM bot as she's a highly dangerous menace to commas and is thought to belong to a banned cult known as The Bots Who Say "Eeeek!!!!!" She wants an aloe shrubbery.

SSDGM · 30/12/2018 20:23

Oh the ironies that High Street Honey Bot is calling out a business as being a scam because she valued the “prize” she won at half of what they said. I take it she’s not with Ariiiiiiiiiiix any more?

Spongebobette · 30/12/2018 20:27

Welcome Galadali!

Good to hear there is real resistance.

I've seen a couple of fairy recent recruits complain about people 'attacking' them and their business (meaning, presumably, telling them some FACTS

Then lots of bots pile in, saying ignore the bullies/ they are just jealous/ show them how successful you can be/ block them

Sigh

I'm not sure if the Worcester News picked it up but Free Radio ran it as their headline news story for a whole day a few weeks ago. BBC3 are doing the documentary. I was asked to be involved but as my children are at school with some of these bots children I declined. I had a very nasty message off the husband of one of them when it came out that I'd been involved with "sabotaging" their Women's Aid campaign.

BSintolerant · 30/12/2018 20:32

I like the idea of fairy recruits ... better than angles any day. Grin

BSintolerant · 30/12/2018 20:34

Now that's what I call MLM Resistance!

cozietoesie · 30/12/2018 20:41

Welcome, Gala. Smile

DropZoneOne · 30/12/2018 20:45

My Arbonne friend has just posted about the "cleansing" plan. She's done this before, only this time she has "just 4 spaces left" on her programme. What's that all about?

I get the impression it's not going well, but i don't know if the penny will drop that it's costing her more than it's making.

9dartfinish2nd · 30/12/2018 20:52

I don't want to say too much here on an open forum but I can confirm Galadali is indeed correct about the planned BBC documentary on MLM's.
Researchers are currently in the process of collecting testimonies from those affected.

Spongebobette · 30/12/2018 21:13

That's really good news. I hope they don't do a 'let's hear from both sides' type of documentary though; I don't need to hear from top bots about their luxury lifestyles, it might hook more people in!!

Whiterangey · 30/12/2018 21:19

I cannot wait for the documentary. Do you know if Uber and Yawn will be featured? Is it just FLP or are other MLMs involved as well?

Galadali · 30/12/2018 21:57

I don't really know anything about it. My office had an email from a researcher saying they were looking for people with negative experiences of MLMs and they were doing interviews in the next few weeks. I'm really looking forward to seeing it too.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 30/12/2018 22:02

Roomie used to work for Women's Aid I think (or at least in the area of domestic violence, women's refuges).

Let's hope she hasn't been using those connections from the past to access vulnerable women.

Nakedavenger74 · 30/12/2018 22:05

See that Broke has confessed he's living on friends sofas and will have his own place when he does a couple of weeks work for a mate.
A clear admittance there that the snake oil isn't earning him a living wage if he's having to turn to proper work to get a roof over his head.

HoHoHoHoHoHoHoHoHoHoHo · 30/12/2018 23:50

PhD posted this on the wall of More ThanJustAMum Bot. To say she's struggled to hit 100cc a month this year is an understatement. Her take home will be barely £2000 before tax. Not worth the hours she puts in from 7am till 11pm each day, constantly on her phone ignoring her kids. Not all that impressive Hmm

I’m so excited about the bbc3 documentary.
Just hope it gets seen by a wide audience and people are warned off forever shite/lying.

ElektraLOL · 31/12/2018 08:16

I should imagine it would not feature the bots who got rich because, as we all know, they are few and far between.

ElektraLOL · 31/12/2018 08:17

Compared to the people who lost money iyswim

Whiterangey · 31/12/2018 09:34

I'm just hoping it doesn't have any current bots saying how they are making a ton of money even though they aren't. It would be good if someone researched some of the companies house records of those who claim they are earning a lot but aren't or whose companies are insolvent.

If it makes just one woman not sign up to an mlm then it will have been worth it.

Dora, I would assume that the difference between a level 2 and a level 3 CB cheque would make it 'cost effective' to buy the CCs to qualify if you're almost there anyway?

Obviously this is not an option for bots lower down the pyramid pecking order...

Expect a lot of garage qualifying FLP products to appear on eBay/Gumtree/a buy&sell site near you.
