MLMs/ Network Marketing: Thread 45

Spongebobette · 05/12/2018 12:24

This is the 45th thread in a long series about the dangers of network marketing/ MLMs such as Forever Living, Ariix, NuSkin, Arbonne, Younique, Valentus, TS Life, Monat, Stella and Dot, Tropic, various slimroast/weight loss coffee MLMs and MANY MANY more!
Posts here will give examples of the lies told by 'top bots' who portray luxury lifestyles in order to lure in new victims and of the other techniques and brainwashing used by MLMs.
The reality is that 97% of people who join an MLM end up LOSING money. Always bear that in mind when considering paying money to join!

The power couple are 'coming out of retirement' because the Recycle Bot Ponzi has bitten the dust.

foreverastri2 · 19/12/2018 08:15

So what mlm does wig do? intrigued! Never heard of crypto currency mlm before 😬

SSDGM · 19/12/2018 08:22

She’s done a few product based MLMs, obviously unsuccessfully. To my knowledge she’s done FLP, Monat and one of the coffee ones (not sure which one). There was also the car one that collapsed about 3 months after it started.

Crypto MLMs are pure and simply Ponzi schemes. Every single one she has done has fell over except GCC. I think Sleaze upset someone and they were booted out of that one. They also took thousands from friends for that one and ended up getting taken to court.

Sleaze has no discernible income, I had heard they were living on benefits. Which is funny, because he don’t work for “the man” but he’ll happily take taxpayer handouts.

JasperRising · 19/12/2018 08:44

It's funny how many MLM adherents won't work for "the man" or have a J.O.B. but will either take benefits or the support of a partner/parents in regular employment... Not to mention that the founders, certainly of Younique, Arbonne, FL etc, bear an uncanny resemblance to the CEOs of those pesky mainstream businesses that everyone is supposed to want to quit in favour of financial freedom.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 19/12/2018 10:50

If anyone wants to fall down a fascinating rabbit hole then the Facebook group 'Recycle Bot - Now What' is an open group. Wig and Sleaze are being discussed frequently.

Oh dear, Inteletravel.

fromdownwest · 19/12/2018 11:17

The latest from an educated bot - one of her 'clients' was telling her that her husband does not leave her enough money for things, and she needs to earn her own money to better her business. The answer - Get rid.

Now this may be a financially controlling husband or it may be a husband who is aware of the costs and outgoings on this little hobby they have and is limiting the house purse strings from being spent on this pipe dream.

ArbunneHun · 19/12/2018 12:04

The thing about Wig ‘n’ Sleaze is that they absolutely have no morals, conscience or shame. If I’d scammed people (including my own daughters) out of money in a ponzi, I would hide myself away, apologise, lick my wounds & get a job to try to pay people back.

They just move onto the next scam and start over. And again, they’ll make out that they have learned the hard way, done their due diligence and THIS one is THE ONE.

Ditto #Bossbabe. Sexist, infantilising nonsense.

Wednesdaymadness · 19/12/2018 13:02

A mum at the school does Arbonne. Apparently she's tried to recruit other parents although not approached me. She's also tried to get us to buy her products for the teachers Christmas present. Anyway my question is what's with the White Mercedes? It's all over her FB page and I think it's something to do with her "little business". I just being nosy really. Others seem to think she's doing so well she has bought it. I'm not so sure.

MincePieMum · 19/12/2018 13:32

I'm a long time lurker and occasional poster to ask questions on previous threads. Can I ask, do the individuals who sign up to MLMs have a contract of some sort? I get they are self employed agents or limited companies. But do they have a contract with the likes of FL, Tropic etc.

I'm looking at self employed sales agent jobs and I'm trying to sort through the decent opportunities vs the MLMs. It would be useful to work out what a proper contract should look like. Thanks

ElektraLOL · 19/12/2018 13:44

I don't think there is a contract - you usually just pay the start up fee and sign a form.

fromdownwest · 19/12/2018 13:50

For any accountants, I have a limited understanding of the implications of IR35. Do you think MLM's with their sole product, sole payee potentially fall under the IR35 rulings?

That would be quite something, imagine the consequences there.

ArbunneHun · 19/12/2018 13:55

You’re not a contractor in an MLM though. You are just a customer & a commission-based sales person. I think IR35 only applies if you are contracting your services & invoicing one company... no MLM member is invoicing FLP and charging them per hour worked!

fromdownwest · 19/12/2018 14:11

I think HMRC is widening the net somewhat, some of the following can trigger am investigation:
Is there any form of contract? - Yes
Is the contractor at financial risk in the project?- Massively yes
Is the contractor working exclusively only for one client?- One family!
Is the contractor "part and parcel" of the client's organisation? -
Is the contract project based with deliverable and milestones?
Are any benefits provided similar to employees (company car/van, sick pay bonuses etc.)

One could argue that the 'car plan' the 'management bonuses' etc could fall under the above. The 'business owners' have no autonomy on the products they sell or to a degree the price.

BangingOn · 19/12/2018 17:15

I thought Wig and Sleaze were hinting about joining TS Life but that’s gone very quiet.

Twentytwentyhindsight · 19/12/2018 17:28

I do remember Sleaze's tongue reaching for the Messiah's ring not that long ago, Banging.

Something about a holy coming together of Crypto and product Ponzis.

BangingOn · 19/12/2018 17:56

Twenty that’s a scary mental image! There was much talk of being in at the start, having a Zoom call with a global leader of a new MLM etc, all liked by Messiah and Mrs Messiah.

cozietoesie · 19/12/2018 20:02

Dear Goodness.

...a global leader of a new MLM .....?

BangingOn · 19/12/2018 20:06

The Messiah isn’t known for his modesty.

GlamourBear · 19/12/2018 20:17

@Wednesdaymadness the white mercedes is when you reach a certain level and get 'given a car". Actually you have to continue to hit a massive target each month for them to pay you a car bonus. Oh and it's a lease set up in your name so if you don't hit target you're left with having to find payments for the rest of the lease term. Somebody I know has been "about to get their car" for almost two years......

UnapologeticallyUnhinged · 19/12/2018 21:44

Still trying to work out recycle and phd

JasperRising · 19/12/2018 22:15

Recycle Bot is a scheme not a person

Twentytwentyhindsight · 19/12/2018 22:34

Unapologetically, rather aptly, the crypto Ponzi they Wig 'n' Sleaze bought into was called Recycle Bot, which can lead to confusion over bot names, but did lead to unintentionally hilarious posts of the "loving the Bot life" variety.

spanfan · 20/12/2018 10:48
