Concentrix - Complaint & Compensation.

CitizenX · 09/02/2015 13:31

Concentrix wrote to tell me they had "evidence" there may be a partner living with me. (There most definitely is not)
I rang them immediately. Their computer system was down. I asked what the evidence was and they said "Under the D.P.A. (Data Protection Act) we cannot tell you." I asked if I had any rights under the F.O.I. (Freedom of Information Act) to find out what this so-called "evidence" might be, so that I could refute it. They told me I did not.

They then said the only thing I could do was send them original copies of Bank Statements, Benefits, Mortgage or Rental Agreements, Household bills, Legal docs pertaining to my marital status, Council Bills from April 2014 to Jan 2015. I said I was not happy about doing this because of the inconvenience, postal expense and my concerns in case the documents were misplaced. They told me if I did not comply "we will stop your tax credits". (not we may not be able to make a decision accurately and it might affect your credits, but we WILL).

Now, I suffer from acute clinical depression (which I try hard to fight) and also vertigo (which leaves me exhausted sometimes) and Chronic Fatigue Symptoms, so I work from home and do the best I can to do as much work as I can, but I am limited. I felt I was being unreasonably threatened on unfair grounds and unsound "evidence", so I complained and asked for my case to be escalated to speak to a Manager which they duly did and we basically went round in circles getting nowhere and just repeating the same information so I asked them to please make a note that I was unhappy and wanted to complain and to enter that on the system when it was working again.

I was obviously stressed and worried so I spent most of that night fretting and looking up the internet. Thankfully a friend suggested Mumsnet and that was very helpful - so I am returning to add my story and possibly provide some more helpful advice.

I picked up some useful information;
The Information Commissioner's office ico.org.uk/
was helpful and had instructions and a template for a complaint letter where you can add your own details. ico.org.uk/for-the-public/raising-concerns/

I also checked the Data Protection act and found I have rights to ensure information is accurate and up to date. (which clearly it is not)
I also have rights to know (roughly) certain details about the information held about me and how it is being processed. (sections 7)
www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/29/section/7

There is also a Government Charter tinyurl.com/qyyhmj2
Which says they will "help and support me to put things right"
"Do all we can to keep the costs of dealing with us as low as possible"
"put mistakes right as soon as we can"
(etc.)

Having had no joy with Concentrix, I checked the paperwork and found a number for HMRC and rang them directly. Again didn't get much joy, so asked to speak to a Manager who said he couldn't do much about an external organisation, but would put me onto Complaints dept, who duly discussed my issues and concerns and raised a complaint and said he would ring back to update me.

I then rang Concentrix for the second time and this time their computer was working. The chap was perfectly nice and polite, apologised and discussed things sensibly, but, again, could not and would not share any information. Though he did explain it may be that a previous resident still had accounts registered with this address. I knew the name, because I had been returning any mail to sender and the Housing Association were able to confirm this name but Concentrix operator said he was not even allowed to confirm or deny this.
I felt that one simple document could end this grief, my rental agreement with the housing association, but it seems I am still obliged to send off ALL these ORIGINAL documents, which obviously I need to copy just in case they misplace them or go missing in the post.

Today HMRC Complaints dept. rang back, apologised Concentrix had not responded and offered me compensation for the distress (£40) and expense of phone calls (£10) if I agreed to close the complaint. I explained it was not about the money, but the principle of the thing if, according to Mumsnet (etc.) there were other people being distressed by this ridiculous process and some frantic with worry. (as detailed in this very forum)
Coincidentally Concentrix e-mail to him arrived during our chat. They said they had spoken with me, we had come to an agreement that I would send documents and I had not made any reference to a complaint with them. (wrong!)

Just after that Concentrix rang and it was their complaints department now, so I listed 7 reasons I was unhappy and the nice man took notes. He said he had also listened to the recordings of my previous calls to them. He was very nice and apologised and seemed to understand my issues entirely and was kind and helpful. He also promised to ring back - and said there might possibly be compensation involved. Again I said it was not about money - though this will cause me a loss of time and some expense, but the principle of sending out letters accusing people of fraud and threatening taking away benefits to which they are entitled.

Furthermore, I don't feel any of the paperwork they have requested would ultimately prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that I have no partner living with me. For example, several years ago I had a good friend down on his luck so I let him stay with me for about 5 months till he got sorted out. I was employed and had my own house, so it was nobody's business (at that time) but in no way would my bank statements or bills reflect any difference whatsoever that would indicate someone was or was not living with me.

It is not over yet - I AM still obliged to send the paperwork. I am still not happy and ultimately I still have to wait for them to make a decision, so I am left worrying over them taking away a part of the income I depend upon.
Nevertheless, I figured if I shared this information perhaps if more of us complain they might change their procedures to something more reasonable and stop frightening people. Perhaps they might even change the wording of their standard letter and the way they respond to telephone callers trying to sort things out.
The crazy thing is I keep 100% honest records and if they had simply said "Mr B, we are carrying out random checks and it would help if you could provide information" I would have complied - not happily, but I have nothing to hide.
I do understand there are those who may be making fraudulent claims, I really do, but I'm not one of them and I resent being accused and threatened on the basis that some other person has not been keeping their accounts up to date at my address. It is crazy and a waste of time and money. There are bad days in my life when I might not have been so able to deal with all of this and I still need to get into town to get some paper to print out those accounts which are now "paper-free" and I probably need another ink cartridge to do it.
Frankly, I'd rather be online trying to get more work in so I can earn more and pay yet more tax to finance the government and fellow citizens, but I have to stop and scan in copies off multiple accounts for several months for my own protection and spend this time on the phone trying to get to the bottom of this so-called "evidence" (which has still not been made clear to me) It is insane, exasperating, frustrating and, in my view, completely unnecessary.

I received a letter from Concentrix, stating that they had information about another adult living with me, totally wrong. Asked them what the information was they had and they gave it to me but said they couldn't supply it in writing (asked for this as it turns out my ex-husband and his partner are somehow linked to my address - have no idea how or why), instead I had to write to HMRC SARS team.

I sent off a years worth of documents costing £11 in postage (sent special delivery) over a week ago. Phoned them yesterday, they claimed they haven't received them. Phoned Royal Mail, the person I dealt with said "if I had a pound for every phone call relating to that company I would be retired and living off a yacht". She told me that it would have got there but would be in their back log - guaranteed!

Phoned Concentrix back and told them what Royal Mail said, response was "we are behind, normally takes 7 days before we get them". They took the Special Delivery bar code and said if there were any problems they would ring otherwise I have to phone back next week.

From what I am reading both on here and other forums this company is a nightmare. The fact that they demand that all documents have to be originals is ridiculous - if my documents have gone missing then some of them I will have to pay to get a copy or I won't be able to get another copy at all!!

I'm a single mum and now am wondering is it only single parents they are contacting like this? I understand they have to do checks but why not just accept rental agreement instead? My stress levels have gone through the roof with this and can't wait for it to be finalised.

Marie1290 · 22/07/2016 20:59

I am so pleased I found this and it isn't just me! Last week I went to the bank to withdraw my payment to see that there was no payment. I contact Concentrix who told me they had suspended it because a name "flagged up" after spending some time on the phone to the man and he asked who lived at my address he told me that one of the names I gave they believe I'm in a relationship with and that he is the father of my child. I was in complete shock baring in mine he is my brother. He asked me to send paperwork which I have and provide him with a tracking number so they could lift the suspension. I did so, to be told that NO they do not lift suspensions and I can wait. I have since been told that it is very well known for siblings to be in a relationship and it is very possible for me to make up a fake birth certificate for my child. I was then told that my paperwork would be scanned. Since this I phoned and questioned if it had been done and I was told yes and that the suspension will be lifted and I can expect payment. 7 days passed.. I contacted again to be told that they have scanned any paperwork so I asked how am I supposed to support my child and I was told by the woman that social services are the next step.

I have phoned hmrc.. they won't do anything. Phoned income support.. Won't help me.

These people are an absolute disgrace and shouldn't even be allowed to talk to the public as none of them have any manners at all and are more than happy to say the most hurtful and disgusting things.

SICKOS!

All I can do is physically hope that one of them chokes on their lunch break.

The only liars here are them!

Bibbidy · 31/08/2016 14:58

Worriedmom: no advice re Concentrix in afraid but get in touch with your local council who should help you with some sort of crisis support eg top up electric or food bank referral they don't normally give cash . Or have a google of local food banks x

eyebrowsonfleek · 31/08/2016 15:06

I went through the process last year and resorted to emailing [email protected] a complaint. I don't know if she works there now but she did in 2015.

It's such a fucked up process. I offered to send Concentrix my ex's council tax bill (different address) but apparently they can't accept data about him to prove my claim.

I don't understand how in these days of austerity, the government can contract out such a money waster like this. Some wealthy fuckers are having the last laugh scoring this easy money off the taxpayer and causing angst for thousands who are not even cheating the system.

I really wonder how many cheats Concentrix has caught. By cheats I don't mean the innocent people like the people on this thread who have had their claims unpaid for weeks because of errors by Concentrix.

Flowers to everyone here.

thellewitt · 01/09/2016 19:37

I know Concentrix does all this crap on purpose just as they always mess with the payroll because of ties to intuit. They are really SYNNEX. They save a buck by putting people through nothing but anxiety and grief. Funny how they demand original documents and then oops, they somehow all got lost. The whole company is f'ed up worse than Apple whom I supported working for them. It's a dead end go nowhere position with Concentrix anyway unless you sleep with management or kiss a bunch of A. If they can't pull the "you're living with someone crap" they sabotage your metrics and call you a loser as you work your teeth off always threatened every day that you'll be fired and it is all no use as they doom the best worker to failure and micro manage you to death; all for 9.25 an hour for Work at Home. Their whole purpose is to bleed the lowly worker. I am done with them and BE WARNED. This is the truth.

I too am a "victim" of this lunacy! I've had my tax credits stopped for a month now even after sending a year worth of bank statements proving I pay ALL the bills! I have lived alone with my son for 15years so there is NO WAY they can possibly have evidence that I'm living with someone else. I have tried relentlessly to get hold of someone from Concentrix, the number is either engaged or I'm on hold(after an hour I get cut off!) I have not received a 'decision' letter yet so do not know how to appeal-this is a complete joke!! I have no money and cannot sort it,how are companies even allowed to operate this way?? I have logged a complaint with HMRC complaints dept, and emailed local MP but I'm at an utter loss as to which way to turn.Any advice/help will be so very welcome before I curl into a ball and fall apart completely :(

bizza1888 · 13/09/2016 11:17

just over six weeks ago I went to use my debit card to my horror there was no child tax credits in. seemly I have an undeclared partner, seemly it was the previous tenant four years ago, they have left me with nothing, they seemly wrote to me but I never received this letter.i tried continually to call got no answer. when I did I was told what to send which I did recorded delivery, now they are still saying I need to send tenancy agreement which ive done also council tax bill. its cost me 90.00 to phone them has anyone else had this bother im at my wits end with it all, ive done nothing wrong. they run on a commission base so every person they get off tax credits they are rewarded while we suffer.

bizza1888 · 13/09/2016 11:27

can anyone tell me where I complain to regarding concentrix

BDaly · 14/09/2016 02:07

A short while ago my partner told me we were disqualified from claiming work tax credit anymore this was disturbing as nothing had changed in relation to either of our working hours. A letter from HMRC simply stated we not eligible anymore due to information from CONcenTRIX .

Also to add I am currently off work ill with a serious gastric complaint which is generally accepted by the medical profession to be caused and aggravated by stress of which my stress level is currently through the roof and due to this decision by CONcenTRIX so also I am now not eligible for free prescriptions and as I can not always afford to buy them on our current income thus have intermittent medication available to me.

To cut this story short I had an online chat with a chap from HMRC called XXXXXX who told me on the 5 sept 2016 that we were not eligible because the company who now deal with work tax credit on behalf of HMRC, an american firm called CONcenTRIX a subsidiary company of " SYNNEX " who work from an office in Belfast had altered the information on our claim form so it read that I did 5 hours/week and not the 30 plus hours/week I had written there myself. ( transcript of that conversation is available )

Personaly I am reading the action of this firm CONcenTRIX as fraudulent on their part and spoke to a solicitor on 8 sept 2016 to see if I have a legal case against CONcenTRIX or indeed HMRC for this fraudulent action they have engaged in. The solicitor told me yes I do have a case and yes he would pursue it if I had the £200/hour upfront fee's for that, needless to say currently I can not afford a prescription let alone a legal case.

One wonders how many other people have had their forms unwittingly tampered/altered by CONcenTRIX. I understand this third party company staff have to meet a target / day for taking people off work tax credits and also I was told they IE CONcenTRIX also get an annual bonus based on how much money they have saved HMRC by removing people/claimants from the work tax credit system.

If the above points on targets and annual bonus are true then it follows that people in fear of losing a job for not hitting targets will do what they can to hit that target no matter who suffers as a result and any company is there to make money so an annual bonus to kick people of a state system would I am sure be abused as seems to be the case by an immoral management staff such as the people both running and working at CONcenTRIX in Belfast.

The targets and bonus's aside, if I had altered information on a HMRC form so it was incorrect I would be charged with fraud so let us see if it works the other way as we have never given information to either HMRC or CONcenTRIX that I worked just 5 hours a week.

I have since posted this on a couple of the sites around the net, passed details on to the serious fraud office, spoke to the BBC and a couple of newspapers. I was advised by CONcenTRIX and HMRC to use the correct complaint procedure but that way will just have this fraud swept under the carpet so I have gone my own route.

P.S. If you remove the cen from the name it sums them up perfectly

CON TRIX

P.P.S. I know I know I am not a mum sorry ladies I wont intrude again I just wanted to get this on here in support of you ladies out there getting a hard time from this CON TRIX firm. Saying that I recently got a kitten 8 weeks old who looks on me as her mum so I guess I am a kind of honorary mum at the moment.

I find it amazing how the media and the overwhelming majority of people finding out about this hmrc/concentrix thing think that it was incompetence. Orders come from the top down. Who do you think wrote the guidelines for concentrix? Who do you think gave them these outrageous powers? 1000's have been wrongly accused of fraud and had their tax credits stopped completely, for months on end in many cases. MP's have been writing to the minister of hmrc since January and what has he done about it? This concentrix thing couldn't happen without his say so. He must have seen the guidelines and known of the powers concentrix were getting and therefor must have foreseen the misery this plan of his would cause. These people are NOT dumb!

Have a think about Angela Merkel telling you to accept all those migrants -- opening the door to ISIS. We see the footage on the BBC of the migrants and most of them are men. How is it possible she did not know accepting the migrants would be opening the door to ISIS?

Sad truth is, your a slave. Your water has bleach in it. Your bread is bleached. Your food is extremely toxic, acid, and is the cause of cancer and many other fatal heal issues. Most of your pets die from cancer too. They give you religion to make you insane and brainwash you into acting tough and trendy with a complete loss of apathy.

Royals live to 100, never get cancer, and neither do most of the billionaires. Billionaires pay no tax and you get hammered by concentrix and hmrc contently. Politicians work on sugar tax, the gutting of your rights, expansion of government powers, costly foreign interventions that always fail while they sit back and watch 1 million get hacked to death in Rwanda in the 90's.

Are you blind?

johounds9 · 12/10/2016 23:00

Hi - I have received the same letter of another adult living with me and (after so many hours of phone calls and rude people at Concentrix) I am accused of living with or in a financial relationship with, my married female next door neighbour. It came as quite a surprise to her and her husband when I told them!! Although the husband did have an interesting glint in his eye??! (no thanks mate) I am a single older mum, heterosexual but that is besides the point, and have been single for years. Concentrix cited their evidence as a letter which arrived for my neighbour at my address. I have been give a notice to repay over £3,500 in child tax credits (daughter now at Uni) as they say I made a fraudulent claim of being a single person for over 18 months. I am now signed off on sick leave with stress which has given me a serious flare up of medical condition, waiting for counselling, in discussions with CAB, legal advice been advised and been told not to answer the door to anyone I don't know as it could be enforcement type officers coming to seize any assets. Life feels like its hit rock bottom. Please tell me people have come through this ........... :(

Me2017 · 13/10/2016 07:30

Concentrix's contract is not being renewed.
The Chief Executive of HMRC is being called to give evidence before the Treasury Committee at the House of Commons to explain the Concentrix backlog issues - see letter www.parliament.uk/documents/commons-committees/treasury/Correspondence/Andrew-Tyrie-to-Jon-Thompson-11-10-16.pdf

If the Government would just increase the single person tax allowance even more it could stop the charade of give parents tax credits and then take them back through tax on their wages. The higher personal allowance is a first step but they need to do more to stop enabling employers to pay low wages.

" MPs slam HMRC and Concentrix for ‘buck passing’ on tax credit checking

MPs are demanding answers from HMRC head Jon Thompson about its monitoring of the tax credit checking work it passed over to Concentrix, after the work and pensions committee heard evidence regarding incorrect decisions to stop payments and ‘appalling’ failures in customer service at the outsourcing company

The committee said it will write to both HMRC and Concentrix asking for ‘urgent information’ on how the outsourcer’s performance of Concentrix was monitored by HMRC and the levels of staffing and training at Concentrix.

It said there had been ‘repeated buck-passing’ between Concentrix and HMRC as to who was responsible for failure to assess claims correctly when carrying out fraud checks.

In addition, the committee wants details of the steps HMRC will take to compensate claimants, to ensure they are not further disadvantaged, and its plans to review decisions taken by Concentrix. It is seeking an assurance that Concentrix will not be compensated for HMRC taking much of their responsibilities back in-house. The committee also plans to issue a report into the scandal.

The actions follow a committee session which heard evidence from four single parents who had wrongly had their tax credits stopped, along with senior staff from Concentrix, including senior vice president Philip Cassidy, and HMRC staff, including chief executive Jon Thompson.

The select committee was told that appeal success rates stood at 73% according to HMRC or 90%-95% according to Concentrix, commenting that ‘either way a terrible indictment of the original decision-making process.’

Frank Field MP, chair of the work and pensions committee, said: ‘The committee was astonished by the extraordinary evidence we heard. From Concentrix we saw a company desperately out of their depth and unable to deliver on the contract awarded to them by HMRC.

‘From senior HMRC officials we saw a palpable disregard for the human implications of this gross failure of public service. From the tax credit claimants we saw dignity in the face of appalling and traumatic experiences.

‘We have no doubt that many people similarly affected have been unable to come forward. I welcome HMRC’s swift action on the Concentrix contract, but that does not excuse them for ever having allowed this to happen.’

The committee was told that claimants faced humiliation when they were forced to borrow money as they were left without benefits, to which they were ultimately found to be entitled, for up to seven weeks.

During the summer, customer service levels plummeted to ‘appalling’ levels, with MPs hearing some claimants called up to 70 times to get through as just 1% of calls were answered by Concentrix at the height of the crisis. One claimant finally waited 90 minutes to speak to a Concentrix adviser on an 0845 number, at considerable expense.

In addition, processing refunds to claimants whose tax credits had been incorrectly stopped took place over a series of months. In one case, a single mother lost housing benefit because a refund of wrongly withdrawn tax credits took her over an income threshold, while in other instances claimants went into debt while they waited for the money they were owed."
