Ours has doubled in the last year to £87 a month. Is this the same for everyone? I'm wondering if I need to cut back on mumsnet time spent on laptops/ computers/ tv/ game consoles etc.

£10 per week on a key meter

Ginderella · 21/07/2013 16:36

£120 per month - on average - over the year.

ShowOfHands · 21/07/2013 16:38

£37pcm

We're v frugal though.

babyhmummy01 · 21/07/2013 16:38

On a key meter so depends on whether I need to.use the dryer but about £5 a week

ShowOfHands · 21/07/2013 16:39

For comparison as well I should probably say that's £37pcm for 2 adults, 2 children in a 2 bed Victorian terrace. No gas here, electricity only.

PearlyWhites · 21/07/2013 16:40

£50 a month six people

Jinty64 · 21/07/2013 16:41

£160 a month for gas and electric!

ShoutyCrackers · 21/07/2013 16:43

I pay on actual usage and refuse to put it on DD as its extortionate what they fix it at.

I have a three bed house and two kids. The usual consumption I suppose, I certainly make no real efforts to be frugal with it. I pay £126 every quarter.

I always suggest on these threads that people take it off DD and just pay when the bill comes in each quarter. Before I did that I as paying £70 a month. Crazy stuff.

noisytoys · 21/07/2013 16:43

£74/month gas and electric but that's for a very small flat and we turn nearly everything off when not in use

ilovesunflowers · 21/07/2013 16:45

£35pm

Feminine · 21/07/2013 16:51

£50 on a fixed tariff.

That is for a medium small house.

5 people.

We also pay £95 for oil!

LastTangoInDevonshire · 21/07/2013 16:55

£61 a month and in credit. 3 bed house, 2 tv's and 3 computers, dishwasher, tumble dryer if it rains.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/07/2013 16:56

£1600 a year.

LimitedEditionLady · 21/07/2013 16:57

£30 a month,not frugal!

LimitedEditionLady · 21/07/2013 16:58

Fairylea · 21/07/2013 16:58

£85 a month, 3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 dc

LimitedEditionLady · 21/07/2013 16:59

I get a 100 quid discount for paying DD and always in credit which i get back.Seems like a brucey bonus when the cheque comes!

NakedPanpipeLady · 21/07/2013 17:04

2 people and a guinea pig in our house. Electricity costs us £28.00 a month. We pay by monthly direct debit and sometimes this puts us into credit with our elec supplier so we can ask for a refund of what has been overpaid (so to speak) (last time refund was approx. £84.00). Paying by direct debit also gives us a discount in itself (depending on which elec supplier you are with).

JustForLaughs - depends on how many people live in your house. E.g. if there's a family of more than 2 people, then yes it would cost more than what it costs me. If you want to cut down on your elec bill maybe you could do things such as using timer plugs or turning TV off rather than leaving on standby - if your TV has a standby that is, not saying you do this). Also if your heating is electric as well (e.g. not gas or oil) then this would also add to your bills (our heating is gas).

gordyslovesheep · 21/07/2013 17:08

new build 3 bed, 3 kids, 3 cats, 3 guineas and a fish - one tumble drier used lots - electric oven

£35 a month - and I am usually in credit by the end of the year

Notcontent · 21/07/2013 17:17

I think it depends on what appliances you have.
My electricity bill is quite low - only about £20 to £25 per month. But I don't use a tumble dryer, and my stove and oven are gas.

But my gas bills are huge - I think after the long winter we had it will be about £120 per month on average. This is for a small three bedroom terrace house.

beamme · 21/07/2013 17:25

We pay £95 a month for gas and electric with Scottish Power. We have a 3 bed semi with 2 adults and 2 children and have a tumble dryer that I use regularly

MrsPear · 21/07/2013 17:30

Hi

I live in a three bed ground floor flat - 2 small boys and 3 adults (2 work 6 days a week). No dryer but do have electric oven/stove. Hot water / heating is gas.

I put £15 a week on the electric key meter - which I have NO choice in having as my flat is privately rented; can you tell I hate it?!

PlasticCups · 21/07/2013 17:30

Mine is a fortune. Got a bill of over £3000 for one month! Obviously it's wrong but electricity supplier will not have any of it. In dispute with them although i have had to pay up.

Sorry, mean to it was a quarter.

Justforlaughs · 21/07/2013 17:34

There are 7 of us in our house, two computers, 5 laptops, umpteen phones, two large tv's. Usual small electrical appliances, washing machine, 2 fridge freezers (not very large), no dishwasher/ tumble dryer, gas heating and cooker. Debating whether to charge 20yo more rent as I was Shock at how much we pay for electricity and his tv/ computer/ laptop/ tablet etc, etc seem to be constantly either on or charging. Thanks for replying. Sounds like it's not ridiculous amount compared to other people anyway.
