Ours has doubled in the last year to £87 a month. Is this the same for everyone? I'm wondering if I need to cut back on mumsnet time spent on laptops/ computers/ tv/ game consoles etc.

I have just signed up for it, but I think it sounds too expensive now. It's £66 for gas and electric a month. It's only a one bedroom flat though, and I rarely have anything plugged in except my phone. It said variable rate, so does that mean they can change the price or if I use less that I can have my monthly direct debits reduced? Anyone know?

£163 for gas and electric per month

TurnipIsTaken · 21/07/2013 22:14

210 per month. Do I win?

That is everything, oven, hot water - vast majority is heating as it's freezing here. But I don't have it toasty, am wrapped in blankets most of the year (no heatwave here) and try and turn off as much as possible.

My winter gas is like that and in the summer only the cooker uses it so we use pennies a week. I'm trying to convince my husband we need to keep young up in the summer because we can't afford winter girl. He likes to do £10 a time when the emergency runs out which can be daily in the winterSad

Ignoring the auto-corrects Grin I think you are very sensible and your DH is a bloody idiot. It's horrible giving money in advance to energy companies who will make interest on it and not pass it back Angry but well worth it for peace of mind.

We just paid $120 USD for a small 4 bedroom home. We have been experiencing a very hot summer, so aircon running in each bedroom most of the time. We live in a converted Victorian, but not well insulated at all.My children think I am very mean spirited as I dash around the house flicking off lights and unplugging electronics.
Btw..that is $120 monthly..

Our old rental flat was key meter, 1 bedroom , no central heating. We would heat only the living room and do 2/3 washings (&tumble dry) per week. Our monthly bill was between £170-200. The gas was only about £6 per month.

Now we have moved to a 3 bed flat with gas central heating we are paying about £50-£60 a month for both gas and electric, but I expect this will be a fair bit higher in winter.

I think part of our savings have been from getting a new energy efficient washing machine, combi boiler (previous one was an immerser), and having double glazing now. The electrics in our old place were really old too and I think a lot of electricity was wasted there too.

£44 PCM but just realised we are £200 in credit ( only started with them 18 months ago)

Gas is £100pcm but we get first reading in September ( its yearly?!) and expecting to be hugely in credit.

I live in a good sized 3 bed terrace, for the most part it is me and my youngest DS. My partner and his two children stay a couple of nights a week and my eldest son is here alternate weekends and half the school holidays (so can be up to 6 of us here some days). I use the washing machine a lot, the tumble dryer quite a bit, have an electric oven, microwave, a small fish tank with filter/pump thats permanently on, 1-2 laptops to charge, 1-2 phones to charge, the occasional hand held games console to charge, 2 tv's and a fridge freezer plus my son leaves his lamp on all night. My electric bill varies between £5 and £10 a week with the average amount used being about £7 a week on a prepay metre.

Whilst its been warm and my heating has been completely off my gas bill has been in the region of £5 a week also. In winter it was costing me £20 a week to have it on for 45 minutes in the morning, 2 hours early evening and half an hour at night which was more than sufficient to keep upstairs toasty but would barely warm the downstairs not helped by the lack of any heating in the kitchen which is really drafty and feels like an icebox.

£28 a month. Direct debit. 2 Bedrooms. No gas.

Pantone363 · 23/07/2013 00:08

£30 a week prepayment. I save £60 a month for the eye watering oil delivery

I’ve just had my first quarterly bill after moving in on 18/12/17, 4 bed semi detached bungalow. £80 it was which baffles me as I asked about paying monthly and they said I hadn’t been in the property long enough to get an accurate idea of our usage so would be based on last occupiers so would be £150 a month! I don’t know what on earth they were doing but having looked at the estimate they seemed to use loads of power at night

It’s electric only we use as we have oil heating, so I’m just going to leave as is and submit monthly readings I think
