I love reading and now that DS can entertain himself for a while trashing my lounge is 8 mo I am finally getting back into the swing of things. But I always read the same kind of books and so would love to have something different sprung on me!

Here's the basics of how it works (thank you Flamesparrow)

How it works

Maria - it's always the same! Come January we shall look back and laugh

I have done the "delegation is the mark of a great leader" thing, though, and delegated DP's birthday bash organisation to my parents - it was one thing too many! And they're doing a great job. Can't wait til Saturday when we'll all be down the pub for that - then can't wait til next Thursday when all this dashing about must All Be Over, by definition.

I think it's a shame the December year end and Christmas have to coincide - it does seem to cause a lot of extra pain!

Ha well, as long as we have silly hats on we'll be OK

stickylittlefingers · 15/12/2009 13:10

oooh and I'm very re going to Greece... will be a tad warmer than here, I'm guessing? Freesia Boloksov here in Newcastle today!

One year I'm going to go the whole hog and spend Christmas somewhere in a bikini on a beach (as well as becoming rich enough to do this I will have developed a bikini-worthy body - if it's all fantasy I may as well have both!!)

And why isn't there a festive biscuit? Perhaps a little pudding would be appropriate?

Maria2007loveshersleep · 15/12/2009 13:14

No, don't be jealous, not warmer in Greece, at least not in northern Greece where I'll go. In fact, more humid & more grey possibly... Plus, travelling with a young toddler does not a holiday make .

mistletoeandwhinegums · 15/12/2009 18:42

Stickylittlefingers, I have finished the book and will post it tomorrow - yet again, I apologise for being so crap and so late. I really did love this month's book (Flying Monkey's) but could I hell get the time to read it. New Year's Resolution is to try harder...

I am slightly jealous of you being in Newcastle, what are Fenwick's windows like this year?

copyyourbumatthexmasparti · 15/12/2009 20:22

Thanks Maria. It has gone to the post office but that is across the road from our CM so I can pick it up later in the week.

I am feeling very scrooge-like about Christmas - life is busy enough without all this! Bah humbug...

[it's arti BTW with a dodgy Christmas namechange]

FlyingMonkey · 15/12/2009 20:49

Seasons greetings everyone. I flew home today so hope to dispatch book and chocolate to Maria tomorrow. Thank you to Ladybee for this month's book (Stickylittlefingers choice) and the chocolate (yum yum). Am off to do a bit of Christmas shopping online as I have got feck all done over the last 3 weeks.

p.s. Saw Fenwicks window last week. More sinister than festive, IMO!

stickylittlefingers · 15/12/2009 21:35

mistletoeandwhinegums - don't worry about it at all, I was only concerned it might have got lost!

I agree re the windows, flyingmonkey - is something a bit creepy about it! Not one of their better efforts, but I still applaud the effort - I'll be taking dd1 to see it on Christmas Eve.... I so can't can't wait (I lurve Christmas!!)

mistletoeandwhinegums · 16/12/2009 21:46

Fenwick's windows sinister?? Tell me more (FlyingMonkey, didn't realise you were in that neck in the woods too). SLF - book went in the post today. I was very naughty and stuck it in the work post as I didn't get a chance to go out to the Post Office today

copyyourbumatthexmasparti · 17/12/2009 19:18

Maria - managed to collect the parcel. Thanks very much for the brownie - is it home-made? It's delicious - I am trying to make it last. Have a nice Christmas in Greece.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 17/12/2009 20:45

Arti, very glad to hear the brownie made it in one piece!! I was very doubtful about whether it would get to you in good condition & wouldn't get squashed along the way. No it's not homemade although if I may say so myself I do make delicious brownies . I bought it from our neighbourhood bakery which is lovely & makes all sorts of wonderful things.

mistletoeandwhinegums · 19/12/2009 09:24

Stickylf - hope the book has turned up with you. Pistachio Lemon, I've noticed you haven't posted on any of the threads about the books - they all start "of Mice and Maltesers" and then the MN name of who chose it, which is also written in the front of each book, if you need to know how to find them. Of course, you just mightn't have anything to say about the books!

arisHOHOHOcat · 20/12/2009 20:17

hi itsjusta have finished your book - thank you !

have also posted on the relevant thread, looking forward to the next one already

stickylittlefingers · 21/12/2009 18:29

Itsjustafleshwound · 22/12/2009 12:55

Merry Christmas everyone - hope you all have avoided the lurgy and chaos and have a great new year...

copyyourbumatthexmasparti · 22/12/2009 15:59

Merry Christmas to you too - and to everyone! And here's to a happy and healthy 2010 with lots of time for reading!

arisHOHOHOcat · 23/12/2009 18:50

Merry Christmas to you all

hope y'all have a great christmas and a happy new year

and
best wishes for 2010!

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 23/12/2009 18:57

not been on this thread before but wondered if anyone can make use of some of my books.

I have a set of dan brown books, some crime type ones and a huge amount of childhood stories books, think boy called it and such.
HTH someone

Maria2007loveshersleep · 24/12/2009 11:03

Merry Christmas from me too . My wish for 2010 to you all echoes Arti's wish: I hope in the New Year we all have loaaaaaaaaaaaaaads of time to read, with quiet & calm & self-entertaining babies/toddlers/children letting us be, playing with their own stuff around us while we have our feet up on the sofa & read.

(Dream on).

LadyBee · 24/12/2009 19:58

Merry Christmas all, wishing you a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Hope you enjoy your day tomorrow and don't get swamped in all the arrangements
Take time to squeeze your family - then tell them to shove off and go read in the bath

MrsMuddle · 24/12/2009 20:49

Happy Christmas everyone. Presents are wrapped, tatties are peeled and I'm sitting here with a lrage Baileys and ice.

I've been lax in posting on the individual book threads but I had a flurry last night so I'm up to date now.

Hope you and all your children have a lovely day tomorrow.

LolaLadybird · 26/12/2009 22:19

Hi all. Hope you have all had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas. I didn't make it on here before Christmas and now feel a little remiss with everyone wishing each other a happy Christmas - a little bit like I forgot to send a card to a friend!

I've been getting plenty of reading done as I have the in-laws staying for a week and am quite enjoying escaping to my bed a bit earlier than usual . I must confess that I haven't read my book club book yet though (not sure who's I have a the mo) as too much other distracting reading material around .

aristocat · 26/12/2009 23:48

hi all
dysgu i have finished the book and will be posting it to you on time

copyyourbumatthexmasparti · 28/12/2009 10:56

pistachiolemon - have sent whinegums' new address to you.

aristocat · 29/12/2009 14:55

dysgu have posted your book today

hope it gets there soon!

Itsjustafleshwound · 29/12/2009 15:06

lolaladybird - will be posting the book and chocolate tomorrow (weather and children permitting!!)...

Somehow, I have reached the point that if I am offered another 'Roses' or 'Quality Street' I am going to be sick ... perhaps this month the chocolate will still be around after reading the book (a change!!)
