RPOC after miscarriage- what happens next?

LO1418 · 15/12/2024 18:10

Hi, Im hoping for some advice if possible. I was 8 weeks pregnant and miscarried two weeks ago. I have retained products of 17 mm. I have another scan next Friday. I stopped bleeding one week ago.

Does anyone know if I will need medical intervention at this point if the ROPC are still present? My pregnancy test was very light today but I haven't lost anymore blood/tissue since my scan so confused as to why my test is so much fainter?

Does anyone know if you can ovulate and concieve with ROPC?

Thanks so much in advance x

Hi, so sorry to hear you have had a loss. I am not sure I have the answers for you sorry but wanted to reply. Did you have a natural miscarriage or was it missed and you discovered at an early scan? Hopefully you will pass the RP soon but if you don't you may need either medical management or surgical management. Depends which one you think would suit you better. How light is light regarding your pregnancy tests now? Xx

LO1418 · 15/12/2024 18:56

BabyBorn thanks much for your reply. I had a missed miscarriage, the baby stopped growing at 6+1 days. My test on the day of my last scan was very noticeable but today it's very faint, barely there but I haven't bled at all x

I’m sorry for your loss and that you’re going through this. It’s hard to say, you may continue to have bits of bleeding before and discover at your scan there’s no more rpoc, or you could go and it’s still there so your body may need a bit of help getting rid of it, in which case they’ll likely suggest medical or surgical management. I eventually had a negative test with my first mc but it turned out I did still have rpoc, so it’s good you have an upcoming scan. I think it’s highly unlikely to ovulate with rpoc, your cycle doesn’t generally come back with something like rpoc going on.
Take care and I wish you all the best x

OneDayHope thanks so much for your reply, so sorry for your loss also. That's really helpful. Thank you xx

@LO1418 did you take the test first thing in the morning? Strangely your situation sounds a lot like mine but I am not sure if I have RPOP yet but I still have a faint positive too. I had surgical management that I don't think worked as 6 days later I lost a lot of pregnancy tissue and not sure if it all came away if I have a positive still. Next Thursday it will be a 3 weeks since my surgical management. It's great that you have a scan booked. I also found out at a private scan that our loss was at 6weeks 1 day and I was supposed to be 9 weeks 1 day. Sucks doesn't it. I didn't have any indication that anything was wrong apart from a gut feeling xx

@LO1418 this is my test from this morning

BabyBorn I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope your feeling OK, its very tough. At the scan they said a positive test was an indicator of ROPC. I was surprised as I thought a positive was normal at 3 weeks after miscarriage.

@LO1418 thanks. You too. Just frustrating having to go through all this so close to Christmas isn't it. They usually say after medical management or surgery test after 3 weeks to check the test is negative. As I had a lot of loss 6 days after the procedure I'm scared it hasn't worked. Hand holding with you as I know how tough this is and hoping you get sorted very quickly after your scan xx

LO1418 · 15/12/2024 20:18

Babyborn thank you, you too. Yes so hard near Christmas.. Wishing you lots of luck and hope it resolves quickly for you x

Is yours a sensitive one or a frer or clear blue? X

LO1418 · 15/12/2024 21:21

It's amazon cheapie, looks the same as yours I think. Will you have another scan?

Hi both. I had a missed miscarriage in September, although I was earlier on in my pregnancy. My pregnancy tests were also faintly positive at 3 weeks post-miscarriage, even 10 days after I’d last had bleeding. My EPU took bloods about twice a week to monitor my HCG and said that was the best way to monitor and not to bother doing any more tests. It took just over 5 weeks in the end for my HCG to drop below 20 (which I think would technically still show on a pregnancy test?) but they were happy to discharge me at that point. They weren’t concerned about RPOC and said that it takes a little longer for some women- and my HCG hadn’t been that high to start with, so was pretty slow to drop! I’m just coming towards the end of my second period since the miscarriage and my cycle seems to be back to where it was pre-pregnancy.

BabyBorn · 16/12/2024 08:15

@LO1418 Yes it's a one step pregnancy test. My local EPU use them. I bought around 50 online from Amazon . 🥴 If I don't get a negative test by Thursday, which will be 3 weeks since my MVA then I have to ring the EPU and I am guessing they might scan me. Have you thought about what treatment might suit you? if you need treatment that is.

@gingerbiscuit24 so sorry for your loss. Thanks so much. That is really reassuring. Just about to do a test now and see if there is any change, I just can't help it since I have about 35 left from a pack of 50 🫣 x

LO1418 · 16/12/2024 09:34

Thank you that's really good to know. I have also used about 50 amazon tests 😬. I now realised testing every day until 8 weeks was pointless as I was getting strong positives even though I had unknowingly miscarried.

I really don't want surgery, maybe medication although have heard horrible stories.

What treatment would.you go for? Hopefully not in christmas week 😬

BabyBorn · 16/12/2024 09:57

@LO1418 I was testing up to over 9 weeks too and was getting strong positives. Really strong. Gutting. Just want this all over with now. My tests are still positive this morning. No point ringing EPU as they will probably just say ring back on Thursday. It's pretty much all I can think about at the moment and it's driving me mad.

I had the MVA (vacuum suction) at the end of November. I would do it again as petrified of medical management. I don't think everything has fully come out though. I had some horrible loss 6 days after which i wasn't expecting at all. I thought the procedure took all the pregnancy tissue away. I was only expecting to be bleeding and not loosing any tissue after the surgery. The surgery honestly isn't as bad as it sounds. I was put to sleep for the surgery and recovered really well. X

KT199 · 20/01/2025 15:31

Hey ladies, sorry for your losses. My situation is very similar - early scan that showed the baby had stopped growing and no heartbeat around 6+1/2

I had my MVA 13 days ago. No bleeding as such until 7 days post MVA where I passed some clots and had heavy bleeding, my bleeding has definitely slowed since and changed colour but still think I am loosing something as (very tmi) it’s very thick and still there every day. I did a test today (aware it’s very early) and it’s still a blazing positive, equal to test line. So just a week until the 3 weeks and time I should re-take the test, but have a feeling already it’s going to be RPOC. So just wondered what your outcomes were and what happened if you don’t mind sharing?

LO1418 · 21/01/2025 06:49

Hi,

So sorry for you loss. Thank you for messaging. I had a few scans which showed retained products despite a negative test at 3 weeks post miscarriage. The RP wasnt vascular so they left it,, but once I had my period at 4 weeks I was rescanned and there were no more retained products. I passed clots for 2 days and then hardly anything.

I hope it all resolves quickly for you xxx

@KT199 sorry you find yourself in this situation too. Around week 4 I finally got a negative test. I've been having my HCG monitored and got the results back a week ago to say it's negative. Only took the sample on 7th of January as the hospital was shut for monitoring over Xmas and New Year.

I've done lots of research and it seems quite normal to be loosing bit of left pregnancy tissue after a MVA/D&C. I would say as long as you are not soaking through a pad within an hour I would try and see how it goes. It all sounds quite normal as my bleeding was a little the same as yours sounds x

BabyBorn · 21/01/2025 08:08

Glad everything is going ok for you @LO1418 . Hope you are healing and good luck trying again! X

Tiredtoddlerma · 21/01/2025 15:03

Just wondering how that first period was for you @LO1418? I was scanned after continuing to test positive after my miscarriage and they saw a thicker lining with possible RPOC but assured me it would go away with my next period. My next period finally arrived a week ago after I tested negative and it has been very light so far which doesn't seem right if there was extra lining that needs to come away?! I don't want to find out the lining is still there too late because we're waiting to go for another embryo transfer.

KT199 · 22/01/2025 09:56

Thank you for your help ladies @LO1418 @BabyBorn. 6 days off testing date and did another in hope my levels had dropped.. still blaring positive 😩 getting really fed up now, really thought the MVA would be the end of all of this but doesn’t look like it will be 😔

BabyBorn · 22/01/2025 14:10

Hi @KT199 I think it can be normal. Still early days. Can you post a pic of the test on here? X
