Blighted ovum experience

We went in for what we thought would be our 7 week scan on Sunday, and found an empty sac
We've been offered rescan for next Thursday and we will discuss options

Ideally I want to naturally miscarry but I'm flying out on a 2 week holiday April so it will be "week12"

Also this is emotionally and physically awful

I just wanted to ask those who have had anembryonic pregnancy before, if you naturally emptied, what week did it happen?

Also should I go medical or surgical if not?

@Blossomofhope I hope you didn't need to go hospital.
I just am struggling, the wait is killing me. Luckily I had the exam today, but I couldn't concentrate much anyway!!! I'm scared Tomorrow they'll say I can't have the d&c Friday, I really want this over so I can concentrate on grieving

why would they say you couldn’t have it? I don’t know much about it.
ya the wait is so horrible!

I went in yesterday and they said I may not be able to have it as I'm flying in 3 weeks. But we decided it's the best course.
I'm here now. Super nervous
Hopefully all goes ok

It did thanks. Not much had changed. Now I’m waiting. I’m hoping I won’t need to go to the hospital.

Have they confirmed it's a miscarriage? Are you waiting for it to pass on its own? Sorry to hear about this 😥

I had my surgery yesterday. I was really scared, literally crying and shaking when they took me down, I get so scared of medical stuff, but they were soooo nice and understanding. Felt very groggy, dizzy and a bit sore when I woke up but they gave me pain medication and I just went home and went to bed and feel much better today.

Is someone staying with you? It will all be over soon lovely ❤️

Pinktree87 · 08/03/2024 09:55

@UrsulaSings123 confirmed miscarriage yesterday and d and c today, I'm so so nervous. Trying to keep distracted. My husband should come after 12.
How long were you out for after anesthesia?
Thank you xx I'm happy to hear you're doing good today x

I had a D&C years ago, I felt absolutely fine afterwards physically, it's a horrible process emotionally but hopefully you should feel fine and well physically afterwards. I'm sorry you're going through this OP.

Pinktree87 · 08/03/2024 12:16

@YesThatsATurdOnTheRug thank you xx it's definitely not fun emotionally but yes physically I want to be back asap!
I usually have Fridays with my 3 year old and he was so excited today because his dad was off too, I felt to guilty leaving him! Hopefully back before bed time

Only properly asleep for a couple hours during the procedure and then I was dosing after that. Procedure was about 4pm, left about 10pm went straight home to bed. Still in bed now! Not that I have to be, just feel a bit worn out.

Fingers crossed you're not waiting a long time. I'm glad your husband is with you now. Let us know how you are when you can.

Cinai · 08/03/2024 13:31

So sorry that you’re going through this! The physical side of it is really not too bad, don’t be scared! I was under for 45 minutes or so, when I woke up there was a nice nurse next to me saying good morning. I had light cramps and asked for a paracetamol. Then I was being brought into the recovery room where DH was waiting, got a sandwich and a tea, and two hours later I was discharged. I didn’t need any more painkillers and was physically back to normal once I arrived home.

Blossomofhope · 08/03/2024 16:06

@UrsulaSings123 @Pinktree87
So sorry to hear you guys are going through that. Hope you’ll be able to move on soon. It’s so tough.
I had the referral sent today but actually think my cramps and bleeding are getting a bit worse so it’s likely to fully happen over the weekend I think.
I hope there’s some happiness coming our way for all of us after this experience! 🌈

Pinktree87 · 08/03/2024 18:37

@Blossomofhope I do hope it happens for you this weekend too.
I've just come back to the ward
I went into theatures at 4.20 and awake by 5.30 so not bad
Feeling fine, waiting for food and my injection as I'm rheus negative

And yes @Blossomofhope we will all hopefully have some good news in a couple months

I am greatful for all you girls being here, you've been my support through this ❤️

So sorry this is happening. I've been there, started spotting at 11+6, scan at 12+0 showed 6 week sized empty sac. Told I had to wait and have another scan to confirm 2 weeks later. Thankfully I started miscarrying naturally at 12+1. Was an awful time but I got pregnant again 4 months later and my rainbow baby will be 18 this year.

Honestly this forum has been sooo helpful and supportive. It's been so helpful speaking to others who have been experiencing the same thing at the same time.

How are you feeling this evening? Hope you're resting up.

Delphina17 · 08/03/2024 20:56

So sorry you're going through this, OP. I had a blighted ovum in March 2022 at 9 weeks. They don't usually pass naturally until 12-14 weeks so I opted for medical management. I started bleeding an hour after the pessaries were inserted and passed large amounts of tissue, some of which had a very offensive smell. I bled for 3 weeks and the first week was quite painful. I would still choose it over a D&C due to the risk of scarring which could then make it slightly more difficult to conceive.

Go pregnant again Oct 22 and now holding my 8 month old. Wishing you all the best xx

Delphina17 · 08/03/2024 20:58

Sorry OP, I've just seen your update. Hope you rest up and feel much better soon. Your rainbow baby will come before you know it ❤️

Maarla · 08/03/2024 21:13

Thinking of you.

A few years ago I had a blighted ovum at 20 weeks ( no previous scan). It was a huge shock as i had put on weight and had a ‘bump’. At the appointment, when we were told the news, pregnancy tests were still positive.

I started to bleed, during the evening we found out. It felt quite psychological and self fulfilling, as if while my body thought it was pregnant…it was.

I conceived on my honeymoon, in Thailand, we'd not really thought it out, just stopped contraception. I was taking Larium (anti malaria). Interestingly, the same happened to my friend, also on Larium. I've always wondered.

It was a heartbreaking time, so many weeks in. First time I saw my DH cry.

A D&C followed.

I now have three DC’s.

Take care of yourself and your DH.

I'm good, home now, inhaled my food! I had some cramps but those have disappeared! I'm going to drug up and go sleep
How are you feeling?
