Dr Shehata advice

Wolfemum · 10/02/2023 08:58

Hello, I am currently experiencing my 3rd consecutive miscarriage and my 2nd MMC. I have been told I will now be referred to the RMC unit but due to my age (42) i think I need to go privately and I was wondering what your opinions are on Dr Shehata? I've heard he has a brilliant reputation but is quite focused on NK cells and less on other things. Can anyone share their thoughts, opinions experiences?
My first pregnancy was healthy and resulted in my 6 year old boy but the last 2 MMC we saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks but then no growth or heartbeat at 7/8 weeks.
Many thanks for reading

@Lara8 thank you ❤️ I hope you have success on your third cycle xx
@KatyTTC i’m so sorry your mum is deteriorating. Keep trying if it’s not causing additional stress. I stopped ivf as my mental health worsened after my 3rd miscarriage, death of my grandad and then the diagnosis of my father in law. When I saw how that impacted my other half, I just knew that we wouldn’t do anymore rounds at that point. I didn’t want to put him through any more pain/loss. After my father in law passed, I would say it caused more stress on my other half and his sister…having to sort everything out. 3 months later at Christmas we randomly conceived…I wasn’t on any pre conception stuff was drinking etc. although it ended badly, there is something to be said at that point we were both more relaxed and it was like a massive weight had lifted. So a little break taking pressure off completely with timings may help.
I’m here for you if you just want to chat. Xx
@whatsgoingon22 thank you ❤️ incredible you have got to 16 weeks and it’s a girl. Did Dr Edge show you images in 4D? Was really incredible to see that. That must have been scary. Dr Edge advised vaginal scan for me still cos of my tilted uterus may be difficult to locate heartbeat and would cause too much stress. Be someone different for 12 week scan so I’m guessing it will be abdominal? Xx

whatsgoingon22 · 06/10/2023 20:57

@JandL2020 yes although the 4d scans freaked me out a little 😫🫣so the 12 week one is with Dr Ganapathy. He was really nice I thought - he said he would try abdominal first but could do transvaginal if needed so don’t panic. The cervical length one is transvaginal also. Hope you’re keeping well and feeling okay.l❤️

JandL2020 · 06/10/2023 21:58

@whatsgoingon22 ha Dr Edge said “wait to see it at 16 weeks it looks like a alien” 😂
oh that’s good to know. I’m feeling okay but just super tired. I was up all last night. Luckily today I called in sick for work I wouldn’t have been able to function. Otherwise typical symptoms are not strong so I was expecting bad news to be honest. It must be the steroids masking them. Dr edge did warn weaning off steroids may start to feel sick. I’ve put on 3kg 😑 Xx

MeganBistram · 07/10/2023 08:11

@JandL2020 i put on 3kg in my first 12 weeks and then put nothing on in the subsequent 10 weeks.. it’s all the drugs they play havock with weight gain etc.

@whatsgoingon22 thats amazing news.. massive congratulations on potentially a girl. You could definitely tell at my 16 weeks we were having a boy ;)

Basically if you are still on a drug protocol with them you have to carry on seeing them until term. If you stop everything then you can stop at 20 weeks. As you know I declined the cervical scan and the intralipids at 20 weeks. It’s a new thing for them and can’t help but think it’s a money making scheme. So my 20 week zoom cost £200 ( still ridiculous) vs. £730.
still hounding me for my bloods but got them booked with my GP on Monday.
this will make you all chuckle.. I am on an adults weekender.. with 10 of my friends who are all obviously drinking.. 21 weeks pregnant. I managed until midnight last night LOL

@Hope646 how are you getting on? Xx

JandL2020 · 07/10/2023 11:49

@MeganBistram good to know it’s mainly the drugs and not just my eating habits 😂
they are doing intralipids at 20 weeks now?? 😩 that’s not listed on my plan! I stop all meds at 16 weeks I think.
oh well done for staying out that long! I would have been asleep by 9 lol. I slept in this morning was lovely 😊 xx.

Privatemedical246 · 07/10/2023 12:58

Hi all hoping I can successfully join. Should be 6 weeks pregnant under Dr S. Got my scan at 7 weeks next week (on holiday which has been a good distraction but incredibly anxious). Have had 5 miscarriages since having my first child 3.5 years ago. The lines were dark which is more than what I had with some of my chemical pregnancy/early losses. I also had one blighted ovum and one MMC. Hoping that 7 weeks scan is okay and that will be the furthest an embryo has developed since my DC1. Interesting to see that they continuing until full term. I think my plan finishes around 16 weeks.

Lily1990 · 08/10/2023 22:37

@KatyTTC I’m so so sorry about your poor mum. That is utterly heartbreaking and I can’t imagine the pain you are all going through, it’s so very cruel. I’m sending you and your family so much love and strength.❤️❤️
I’m really sorry about your negative test too, not what you need right now. Are you still doing SO? Perhaps you could continue trying without being on that, so you’re not committing as much financially and psychologically? It may be a coincidence but I noticed that I never conceived on the 4 letrozole cycles I did, but seemed to conceive around the second cycle trying off letrozole. So I’m wondering if letrozole put my body off somehow, although it should be doing the opposite! Happy to chat with you anytime about my IVF appointment too.

@whatsgoingon22 thanks so much for the encouragement ❤️ that’s really helpful to know about uterine abnormalities. So delighted for you getting to 16 weeks and a girl, how amazing!!

@Privatemedical246 welcome and congratulations, keeping everything crossed for you!

Hope everyone else is doing well too and had a lovely weekend. I have decided to go and see an acupuncturist to see if it can help with my long cycles - has anyone tried acupuncture for fertility stuff? Love to all xx

Sprinkleofbabydust · 09/10/2023 07:29

Hi @Lily1990 yes I’ve had fertility acupuncture. I had a few sessions after my recent miscarriage and it helped regulate my cycle again and now I’ve started having weekly sessions pre starting ivf which has been recommended by my clinic. I don’t go to the clinic one I just found one local to me and she is great as she was linked to the clinic previously so is very knowledgeable. It’s supposed to help with the blood flow etc and also I find it quite relaxing and calming. Hope that helps.

We’ve also seen a nutritionist and are taking good quality recommended supplements so if anyone needs recommendations then more than happy you message me. They’re not cheap but willing to try anything for long term gain. We were referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic at St Mary’s Imperial college and the one thing that the consultant did say was for both me and my partner to start taking Co q10 ubiquinol in a highly absorbable form which is what we are doing as it can help improve egg and sperm quality.

finally, not sure if anyone has any advice we are with another clinic and the consultant didn’t seem too positive about NK killer cells and hasn’t recommended we have that test done. I’d rather just have it done anyway to rule it out rather than go into ivf without having done that test. Is it worth me getting an appointment with Dr Shehta and getting him to do the nk test or would we have to move clinics?

Great to hear some positive stories on here. Sending lots of love and positive vibes 💫

Privatemedical246 · 09/10/2023 10:57

Thank you. So hard to not relax. Every twinge I think that it's over!

@Lily1990 I had some accupunctr before I started at the crp. I felt it regulated my cycles more and I tended to ovulate around day 14 whereas previously it was around day 19/20. I stopped as hadn't fallen pregnant within the few months they say people usually do and chose to spend the money on a PT to try and get fitted/focus on other stuff. But it was relaxing and I think gives you a sense of your doing something.

MeganBistram · 09/10/2023 12:40

@Lily1990 Don't know why I didn't suggest this, I had this and get pregnant after 3 months, I have regular cycles but it is suppose to be amazing for long cycles etc xx

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 13:21

@Sprinkleofbabydust have your other investigations come back clear? Mine did then I had my NK cells tested with CRP.
some doctors believe in it. Some don’t.
I think if you have been tested for everything else and still miscarrying then yes you need to have nk cells tested x

Sprinkleofbabydust · 09/10/2023 14:30

@JandL2020 yes so all the recurrent miscarriage bloods they do and scan and TH1:TH2 test have all come back fine. Just phoned Dr Shehata clinic and they said the TH1:TH2 they don’t trust the Chicago test 🤦🏻‍♀️ which is where it went to be analysed. So eye opening all this. Annoying how there isn’t a national standard of what needs to be tested as it’s luck of draw what you discover. Imagine if you had never been tested you could have continued to miscarry and some people do as you hear stories of 9,10 etc miscarriages. Just been advised we can book in with Dr Edge sooner and then have the tests done same day and then have follow up with Dr Shehata.
She said you have to be under them for all the immunology treatment so would have to pre conception and then post conception have scan done at 6,12,16 and 20 weeks. Is that correct? If you don’t mind could you private message me costs of each so I can tally them up please and be prepared. Thank you so much for your time! Hope you’re doing well :) x

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 16:41

@Sprinkleofbabydust DR Edge is very good. She was actually at the initial appointment I had with dr shehata.
initial bloods costs about 2k but I saved a fair bit by going through GP. All the blood test prices are on their website.
then treatment cost depends on results. But intralipids cost about £390 I think
and each scan at 6,8,10,16,20 weeks which I can’t remember how much it is. I had a scan on Thursday plus paid for harmony and 12 week scan already and that was £640.
it’s not cheap basically.
I don’t regret going to crp. Feel well looked after and furthest ever got with a pregnancy.
credit cards can be paid off that’s how
i look at it. Xx

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 16:42

@Sprinkleofbabydust forgot there is also a 14 week scan x

Privatemedical246 · 09/10/2023 17:33

@JandL2020 do you have to do the harmony test or is it a choice? Many thanks

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 17:45

@Privatemedical246 it was a choice. But we just wanted to know x

Privatemedical246 · 09/10/2023 17:52

@JandL2020 thank you. Hope the results are all okay and pregnancy continues smoothly! I can't believe how much it's going to add up with all the scans! Seems mental as the NHS will obvs do theirs too. But will be good reassurance.

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 18:28

@Privatemedical246 it does add up. I don’t think nhs do harmony but I did notice midwife included a blood form for 12 weeks and I needed to give permission for it. Maybe it’s the same thing and I’ve paid it for nothing. Oh well x

Hope646 · 09/10/2023 18:32

sorry ladies for being sooo quiet lately. Been extremely busy at work and trying to keep a balanced life.

@MeganBistram thank you soo much. i was feeling so anxious to annouce but I finally announced it to my family. There were a lot of happy tears and joy. It was really nice to see that. Apart from them I have kept it quiet and i think I will do until week 20 scan even though i look pregnant. especially from the face. I think it is the medication.
My week 12 scan was with NHS last week and i was showing 14 weeks. Thank God it was all good. Because of my history, they will be doing 2 more scans between week 20 and the delivery time and more if needed. I thought the last scan/ treatment with CRP would be at 16 weeks and that is what was written on my plan. I am not sure if they will ask me to visit on week 20. I don't think I will go if it is not really needed

How are you feeling? When is your last appt. with CRP?

@KatyTTC I am incredibly sorry for your mum's health. I can't even imagine what you are all going through. Sending you and your family so much love and strenght. Thank you for checking in after what you are going through. You are an inspiration. Really praying it all works out for you and your mum's health gets better.

@whatsgoingon22 Its a girlllllll! massive congratulations. I hope you are feeling well. Have you announced it to your family/friends yet or will you do a gender reveal? Even though I was told about the gender by Dr. Ganpath. at CRP but the way said it, I am not sure if he was really sure. So i am hoping to get a definite answer on my week 16 scan which is next week.
How are the symptoms for you? My sleep is so bad. I usually fall asleep at 10-11pm and during the night there is a lot of tossing around. I am then wide awake by 5am. I am suffering from severe hair loss. It is shocking. Has anyone experienced that? I mentioned this to both Dr. Edge and to the doctor at the hospital, they kept saying it is normal and there is nothing that can be done. But i feel i will really go fully bald by end of this pregnancy.

@JandL2020 hope you are enjoying the pregnancy lovely. My choice of food has gone really better during second trimester. With weigth gain, i like to think is just the medication. haha. But i stopped caring and started buying baggy clothes. so thats helping especially when I am still trying to hide it from people around.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Sending you all best wishes xx

JandL2020 · 09/10/2023 21:22

@Hope646 congrats on your scan and announcing to family. Are nhs scanning you between 16-20 weeks? It says on my plan scan at 20 weeks. I’m really sorry to hear about your hair loss. Is it the medications? I’ve just been reading on dr google that’s it’s not uncommon and can be caused by low iron levels, have you had this tested? My sleep is also really disturbed. I’ve started to wear an eye mask which has helped.
I bought some size 18 baggy tops from Tu yesterday and a really nice Shacket (it’s a black and white check if anyone is interested) Didn’t break the bank either.
i’ve gone back to scan anxiety mode but only a week to go now. I’ve been busy with work today and doing a uni course. My focus is definitely not 100 % there though. Tomorrow I’m going in the office to help me focus. Xx

thehurtingheart · 10/10/2023 08:25

Hi ladies, looking for a bit of a hand hold or similar experiences. Having a bit of pink spotting at 5w2d - this is the time I have had previous losses so obviously terrified. Anyone else have this and then things turn out okay? Looking for some hope to cling to that things aren't going the same way as my previous pregnancies. Trying to hold on to the fact that this pregnancy has everything working in its favour but I am really struggling!

whatsgoingon22 · 10/10/2023 11:34

@thehurtingheart hi I’m sorry this has happened you lovely 😭trust me I know the feeling. I had a little red bleed at about 5.5 weeks and then pretty consistent brown spotting for about 6 weeks. Also had one or two occasions of pink/orange spotting in the middle of all of that. CRP saw a small clot above my cervix during the scans so hopefully you will be okay darling. Do let CRP know and hopefully they can scan you soon xxx

Hope646 · 10/10/2023 11:54

@JandL2020 thank you so much. I still hold myself from buying preg. related things. I am not sure when this anxious feeling will go away.
NHS don't offer week 16 scan. They only offer week 12 and week 20 and depending on your history, there might offer you 2 or more scans post week 20. No i should get my iron testet. Even though i do take iron tablets but may need a higher dosage.
Baggy clothes are so comfortable. Welldone for keeping yourself busy. That's sounds like a really busy schedule. Good luck for your scan next week. is that going to be your week 12 scan?

@thehurtingheart hey lovely. i have had spotting during the first few weeks and i think each one of us did. It is terrifying but it is so common. I felt exactly the same way as you because all my losses were during those weeks and seeing spottings were not helping. Each time I would see blood, i had this fear of losing the baby again. One night it is was not even spotting, it was bleeding but thank God scan showed the baby was fine and bleeding stopped after few hours. I am not sure if it is the medications but for some reason i think almost all of us experienced spottings mainly during the first few weeks. Try not to panic. I have had 3 early losses and under crp protocol i have reach week 15 so far. Email CRP. They might ask you to stop aspirin until spotting stops. Try to rest if you can. I felt on the days that I was moving around alot or carrying heavy shopping bags, there were more spotting. Hope it gets better and your week 6 scan goes well

JandL2020 · 10/10/2023 14:14

@thehurtingheart second what the other ladies have said. I also had 3 occurrences of spotting. I actually sent a picture to the nurses and they reassuranced. At my 8 week scan they could see a small blood collection top of cervix so was advised to stop aspirin and blood thinner injections.
@Hope646 think I’ll have to beg my nhs consultant at 16 week app for the extra scans post 20 weeks then as prefer not to travel back to crp.
got 2 12 week scans next week. Didn’t really plan that plan. Should have moved the nhs appointment to 13 weeks so then I’m scanned weekly. Oh well it’s booked now.
I managed to get an essay completed this morning. 500 words so not a lot but I did it 😆 xx

thehurtingheart · 10/10/2023 18:17

Thanks all for your experiences. I took the day off work to rest and try and keep distracted. My first scan is next week and it can't come quickly enough! How do you all cope with the loooooonnnggg days?
