I am 49 and 9 days late for my usually regular cycle. Is this the age where periods start to go irregular?

I was 52 when my periods started becoming very heavy, very irregular (lasting 3 weeks at a time). I was 59 and 1/2 before my periods stopped.

Wow that is so old !!!!

I'm 50. My periods were regular as clockwork until November last year (so 49 and 9months). The last period I had was the week my mum died, right at the end of November. The weeks afterwards were stressful and I didn't really notice that I hadn't had another until March. I've had nothing at all in that time, not even spotting. No menopause symptoms that I recognise either. My friend keeps insisting I go to the doctor and ask for HRT but I really don't feel I need it.

stillherenow · 13/07/2022 19:25

48, had 6 months without periods when I was 47 then period from hell and I had to have d&c. Now only very occasionally get completely painless periods (have always had horrid pain), they're still heavy so I guess the pain was all hormonal very odd.

Everyone's different. My cycle has always been exactly 29 days like clockwork. Mine started getting irregular about 18 months ago when I was 35. I'm now 37 and they're still not regular.

Nopeasinapasty · 13/07/2022 20:02

Thank you @Kittycooo xx

hugoagogo · 28/05/2022 07:52

I have only ever had regular periods when on the pill.

^^ this.

I'm in peri, periods are getting more on average more frequently, but still very variable. 8 years ago the average time was 30 days, but that reflected a range of 24-38, nowadays the average is 25 days, but still a wide range.

BunsyGirl · 13/07/2022 20:24

Missed my period for the first time at 45. Currently 46 and the time between my periods has been getting shorter. Looks like I am going to miss another period this month. Had my usual PMT symptoms but they have now gone.

Disneygirl37 · 13/07/2022 20:28

I'm 43 and my cycle has changed from pretty regular 29 days to 22-25 day cycle over the last year

Disneygirl37 · 13/07/2022 20:29

They are also lighter

justasoul · 13/07/2022 20:54

Mine were never regular again after having DD aged 29. Stopped completely when I was 39.

MissWired · 13/07/2022 20:57

Mid thirties - before that it was 28 days on the dot.

OhNoNotThis · 13/07/2022 21:02

42, I’m now 48 and recently had 6 months with no period (but covid brought it back with a vengeance, thanks covid). I was about to go to the GP as I think 47 (which I was at the time) is early end of average for menopause.

No symptoms yet…

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 21:10

46/47.

whenwillthemadnessend · 13/07/2022 21:21

Yes late 40s. Now 51 and most gaps are 3/4 months apart.

tiredanddangerous · 13/07/2022 21:28

Mine seem to have just gone haywire at 42. Period started yesterday and it's the first one since April. GP not interested of course.

Seriously79 · 13/07/2022 21:31

I'm 43 and I think it's started.

I've always been 28 days without fail. Wake up on day 28 and there it is waiting for me, and alway heavy flow, clots the size of grapefruit!

At the end of last year I went 21 days, and this last cycle was 35 days, and so light. Only needed a panty liner (of course in wore a huge pad all week as I was just waiting for it to kick in properly- but no).

My body temperature has definitely risen a few degrees in the last year, im alway hot. Had my fist official hot flush back in February- that was fun 🙄.

orangetriangle · 13/07/2022 21:42

my period for last year were only about 28 days in between and then bled for just over a week very heavy dor a few days as well then again I have fibroids apparently multiple ones so not sure if that would be why my last period which started beginning of June I bled for almost three weeks but since then nothing though had symptoms in 53 so am hoping this could be start of it but who knowd

BloodyHellKen · 13/07/2022 23:18

I didn't really get irregular as such. It was always roughly a week either way, either longer or shorter cycles. Then they just stopped for 3 months, then 1 period, then nothing for months now. No other issues, I'm not going to lie it's great 😁
I see it as payback for the 20 years of hormonal migraines.

easyday · 14/07/2022 00:15

About 54. Stopped entirely by 56/57. Luckily no other symptoms at all! My mum had a really bad time and I was dreading it.

EBearhug · 14/07/2022 01:03

Mine were pretty regular, 29-30 days until last July age 49y3m. Since then, cycle lengths have been between 24d and 49d, and period length can be from a normal 5d to 15d (mostly light, with two horrendous flooding days, however long or short.) Haven't really had any other symptoms so far. Sex drive has been through the roof, which Tinder dates have benefitted from. I keep hearing from women who say their libido plummeted. That might make life easier...

Furrybutts · 14/07/2022 08:09

easyday That's so reassuring to hear. As I said down thread, I'm 53, periods stopped 3 years ago and I have no symptoms either so am hoping it's all over for me too.

blobby10 · 14/07/2022 08:24

I'm 53 and my periods have only become regular since having a coil fitted 5 years ago! Before this they were very roughly 35 days apart but up until I was 40 they were horribly irregular - anything between 5 and 8 weeks apart and SO heavy. Wish I'd had a coil fitted years ago. Just want the whole thing to stop now.

RidingMyBike · 14/07/2022 08:25
  1. It was very irregular until 35, when I had DD. Regular as clockwork now (early 40s).
SallyWD · 14/07/2022 08:26
  1. I'm now 47. Sometimes they're regular as clockwork - other times they're not.
