Peri mood swings

KnucklesMcGinty · 23/01/2020 09:18

My PMT has developed into utter rage in the last few years. I think I'm peri-menopausal (46).
My GP gave me femoston, but I don't think progesterone is calming me down!
Is there a better HRT for mood swings? She also offered the pill or anti-depressants. I'm really not keen on ADs.
Any suggestions please?

Yeah I've noticed that the last couple of times I'm raging lol. But only at certain people then gone the next day or couple of days x

Mumteedum · 25/01/2020 17:47

I'm just crying all the time. Also nearly 46. Have pmt extreme for most of the time now. Seems to be immediately after period leading up to when I'm supposed to ovulate though not convinced I am still ovulating properly. I've got sore boobs a lot and other stuff which when I read up indicated high estrogen. I'm really not sure about hrt so doctor not very interested. Offered that or antidepressants.

Mumteedum · 25/01/2020 17:48

Sorry that was a crap reply wasn't it? No suggestions but just sympathy and you're not alone

RandomMess · 25/01/2020 17:53

I've started taking magnesium, taurine and Vit B6 which are a treatment for PMDD and it has definitely helped.

anothernamejeeves · 25/01/2020 19:04

Yes it was vile I swung from being murderous to suicidal and back again
Now on prostap to throw me fully into menopause and I don't experience anything like it

KnucklesMcGinty · 25/01/2020 19:13

It's absolutely grim, isn't it?
@RandomMess, is that an over the counter tablet? Can you buy it as an all-in-one or is it 3 separate things?
What about Menopace etc? Do any of those types of things help?
At the moment, best case scenario is divorce. Dunno what worst case would be. Sad

You can buy them all from Holland and Barrett

Taurine 500mg
Vit B6 50mg
Magnesium 250mg

If all else fail the treatment is oestrogen but REAL oestrogen not the synthetic version found in the pill. I looked at bu is £100 per month 😳

KnucklesMcGinty · 25/01/2020 19:45

How much of a change did you notice @RandomMess when you started taking them? Did it just take the edge off, or did it make things much easier?

OP posts:
RandomMess · 25/01/2020 19:48

I haven't been ultra tearful since 100% definite I feel calmer. DH won't comment 😂

Mumteedum · 25/01/2020 19:56

What does the taurine do?

RandomMess · 25/01/2020 20:09

It's an essential amino acid that has anti oxident properties.

I was researching severe PMT treatment in desperation...

KnucklesMcGinty · 25/01/2020 20:20

Is that because he's under the patio?

Hmmmm he is too wise and too careful...

lies about what I'm like to live with

whoopstheregomyinsides · 25/01/2020 20:42

Yep. Here too. Absolutely bellowed at my pre teen earlier so my throat hurts. I feel Un-listened to and unloved. And sweaty. It's foul.

RandomMess · 25/01/2020 20:45

I wake up too hot during the night with mid boob sweat 🤬

obviouslymarvellous · 25/01/2020 20:52

Me all over - past 12 months I loathe how I can behave and lose my rag so quickly. The rage just takes over. I'm 46 too. I've started taking St. John's wort as I feel v low and have heard it can help with peri. It's early days but I def feel a bit calmer. Also each month now for past 4-5 months I have such sore boobs (lasts about a week) that I could cry! Anyone else? Periods still pretty regular though, heavy but they have got much shorter in length. Wish they would just bugger off now...

RandomMess · 25/01/2020 21:02

Always suffered with mastalgia to some extent, currently on week 2 of it this time around Angry

KnucklesMcGinty · 25/01/2020 21:21

I also have very heavy but short periods. I can't do anything much for 2 days, just hang about the house changing tampons every hour or 2.

RandomMess · 25/01/2020 21:22

I had womb ablation a decade ago so little bleeding but sometime several days of light flow 🤬 still better than the 7-10 days of horrific heaviness pre-op.

KnucklesMcGinty · 26/01/2020 17:29

I found some Vit B6/magnesium tablets in my drawer. I'll pick up some taurine tomorrow.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 05/02/2020 16:31

Well, I know it's too early to say, but my mood definitely feels better.

LizzieSiddal · 05/02/2020 16:40

I agree with taking vitamins plus my Dr also advised that during the PMT week or two to do the following-

Exercise will work wonders.
Try not to drink alcohol during PMT week.
Keep hydrated during the day.
Eat properly, getting hungry will make the rage worse and don't skimp on 'good' carbs.

When I follow this advice I'm a different person, much calmer and happier.

Mumteedum · 08/02/2020 16:52

I am taking the magnesium and vit b but not noticed any improvement yet. Do I need the taurine to make it work?

I can't stop crying today. Anything that's bothering me just feels magnified.

LizzieSiddal · 09/02/2020 08:20

mum it needs to build up in your system. Take them all month and you should see a big difference before your next period.

Sorry you felt so rubbish yesterday. How are you today?

Mumteedum · 09/02/2020 15:00

@LizzieSiddal awh, a bit better though your kind post just made me well up again. I will keep going and see.
