Peri mood swings

KnucklesMcGinty · 23/01/2020 09:18

My PMT has developed into utter rage in the last few years. I think I'm peri-menopausal (46).
My GP gave me femoston, but I don't think progesterone is calming me down!
Is there a better HRT for mood swings? She also offered the pill or anti-depressants. I'm really not keen on ADs.
Any suggestions please?

How're you doing @Mumteedum?

I can sympathise, I've been dreadful the last few months...raging one minute, wailing the next. Found it's been bad in the middle of the month for a few days, then again just as I'm due on.

I've just had a mirena coil which I was told should help...then I walked out with the leaflet and it says it can CAUSE mood swings. I'm due on next week so will see how it goes...if it makes me worse it can bloody well come out.

Mumteedum · 12/02/2020 18:15

Thanks for asking @KedsAndTubeSocks. I've come on now. In lot of pain today and still crying but too easily but I'm a bit poorly too now! The joys 😂

megletthesecond · 12/02/2020 18:18

I was only bad with this for three years Blush. Another one who had a sore throat from shouting.

Goldrill · 12/02/2020 18:24

I've started taking menopace; seems to be the cheapest way to get reasonable whack of the main vitamins I thought I might be lacking (vit d seemed quite likely too).
I also started taking a cold shower every day, having seen hugh thingy on telly recommend it. Did both things at once and after a couple of weeks I really do feel quite a lot less shouty and a bit less worried about everything.
Quite relieved cos I do everything else right- exercise every day, get outside, no booze on school night, good diet and was still totally losing the plot.
Will see how it goes!

Mumteedum · 12/02/2020 18:40

Oh yeah and forgot to say, the magnesium and b complex I bought is meant to be x3 a day and I was only doing x1. So still hoping the increased dose kicks in to effect soon!

KedsAndTubeSocks · 12/02/2020 19:39

Hope so @Mumteedum. I also have to take 3 tablets, plus the taurine. It sticks in my throat a bit, but I think it's really helping. Difficult to say with mood swings though, isn't it. Confused Hmm

KedsAndTubeSocks · 12/02/2020 19:41

I'm also using the Flo app to track symptoms. All its telling me so far is I'm irregular!

KnucklesMcGinty · 24/02/2020 14:04

Well. I finished up my B6 and accidentally replaced them with a different supplement with only 5mg of B6, instead of the 50mg I had previously been taking. It only took a few days for things to get dire again. Co-incidence? Maybe. It's so hard to tell with mood swings. Anyway, I'm back on 50mg of B6 as from today.

I'm cross and impatient a lot. And absolutely furious for about 3 days before my period comes. Which is all over the place at the moment. I'm 48

KnucklesMcGinty · 24/02/2020 20:06

@romany4 please try the vit B6, magnesium & taurine combo recommended above. It has made a massive difference to me. I think.
@Mumteedum how are you doing now?

OP posts:
romany4 · 24/02/2020 21:17

I do take B vitamins and magnesium but can't swallow tablets or capsules so take everything in liquid form. I also take vitamin D

Mumteedum · 25/02/2020 11:50

@KnucklesMcGinty I'm suddenly fine but it's the day after ovulation (or when I'm meant to) so this is usually when I'm OK. I've been climbing walls with anxiety and crying eyes out for the last week. I'm going to have to make more effort to not miss any doses of vits. Not seen any difference form them yet.

KnucklesMcGinty · 26/02/2020 14:05

@Mumteedum It's so hard to tell isn't it, when your hormones fluctuate through your cycle. Maybe try adding the taurine in too, and see if that helps. If not, I suppose this approach might not be the best for you. Good luck.

I've been prescribed HRT but can't get it at any chemist Confused

rose67 · 28/03/2020 07:49

Hi. I'm new to this site. I suffered badly with anger rages, mood swings, uncontrollable sobbing at silly things!
Reluctant to try HRT... I did plant based gel, oestrogel. My partner noticed the difference within days

This Facebook closed group helped enormously and well worth joining

Hello, I know this is a zombie thread but I've just found out about taurine too. I'm going to restart taking magnesium properly as was being a bit half hearted and b6 is quite high in my breastfeeding tablets. And try taurine.

For me it's the physical crash. So bad this month I thought that I had caught the virus. Aches, feeling fluy before and then had to spend most of day 2 of period in bed with fatigue and body pain. So I'm hoping this approach will help.

Do you take taurine daily and at night or in the day?

I'm also wondering about turmeric capsules for aches and pains.

NeurotrashWarrior · 29/03/2020 10:03

@KnucklesMcGinty and @RandomMess

Hello, for me it's the physical crash. So bad I though I had the virus this month. Had to spend most of yesterday in bed with body pain and fatigue, day 2 of period. Flu like a couple of day before.

Going to restart magnesium and I've ordered taurine. Do you take taurine daily and do you take at night?

B6 is in my breastfeeding tablets.

KnucklesMcGinty · 31/03/2020 13:04

Hello again.
I might ask to join that FB group, thanks. As long as it's not MLM. Grin
I take my B6, taurine & magnesium any time after I've had a meal. My routine is a bit off at the moment, so I haven't been taking it so regularly, and I've just told DH not to bother coming home.
I need to find out about getting more taurine delivered as I'm running out.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 31/03/2020 13:22

Not just me then.
Terrible moods swings and I then feel horrendous guilt which makes me weep.
Keep thinking I'm going to drop dead and the last memory DH and DC will have of me is me being really angry and shouty.

Terrible breast pain too. Found that 320mg daily of GLA really helps (approx 7 standard EPO capsules.)
Also Magnesium, Vit D and calcium, high strength Vit C with rosehip and bioflavinoids. Vit B complex too.

It's grim. Eyebrows are sprouting random white hairs, lots of hairs on chin and neck that are like little wires, nails keep breaking, and cystic spots that take forever to go and leave scars.

KnucklesMcGinty · 31/03/2020 13:33

Oh yeah, the eyebrows! Mine are quite sparse so I've been using castor oil on them at night. I have a couple of hairs that keep getting longer. I dye my eyebrows, and these are usually half white, half brown. When they get too much like grandad eyebrows, I trim those hairs! It's a good look. Grin

Cried all afternoon today. Pandemics and peri and flakey boyfriends who you can't see are a shit combo. Might try taurine. Been o. With the magnesium and iron. Waiting for blood test result. Sad fuck 😭feel so shit

KnucklesMcGinty · 05/04/2020 22:02

Sorry @Mumteedum. Flowers
Hopefully blood test results will give your gp something to work with. It might be something simple like Vit D.

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/04/2020 13:09

Sorry it's taken so long to come back and thanks for your reply!

I've been taking the mag and taurine and a little extra b6 on top of what's in my breastfeeding tablet (checked it all out in kellymom and lactmed) for just over a week and am definitely starting to feel better, though I can do mid cycle, so will evaluate after a few months.

The taurine is really interesting as I've been reading about it in relation to muscles etc. I have hypermobilty and so they can all get very painful in response to lack of sleep and hormone fluctuations.

Also trying some turmeric capsules. I rattle somewhat!

NeurotrashWarrior · 10/04/2020 13:10

I hope you agre feeling better @Mumteedum Thanks
