Hi I'm 54 and have been menopausal for at least 3 years. Was on Ellest but changed to femoston in November last year. In the last 3 months my normal bleeding pattern has changed and this month I have very tender breasts. Is this because my natural hormone levels are changing and what can I do about it, if anything? I've also put on weight, mind you I'm not eating very healthily to be honest! It's starting to get me down now. Any advice?

I was looking for advice regarding Femeston and came upon your message. I know it is 2014 when you posted this but for others that may be looking for help Femeston 2/10 is the HRT that causes break through bleeding at the end of your packet ( Not natural periods but brought on by the strength and combined different tablets. I have been taken off these and put on the combi Femeston as the doctor states that at my age I should not be having periods no more. I was on the 2/10 one for 10 years, it was suiting me really well. No more hot sweats, insomnia, confusion low mood, felt great on it. Since starting the Combi Femeston three days ago I am feeling very agitated, anxious from inside, shaking, exhausted yet wired up. Indigestion, insomnia and waking for the toilet four times a night. I can not seem to settle and rest even though I have no energy. I am bleeding a little as this should have been the time when my bleed was due on the 2/10 but only been on these combi for three days. I am only giving it another day or so as can not cope with the side effects that the combi is giving me. Are the ingredients different or is it because I am now on a lower dose and crashing from coming off the high dose? Hope this makes sense as its even difficult to think straight while writing this. Thanks in advance. xx

Femoston 1/5 is only half the oestrogen of 2/10. Those are the symptoms I get when it is too low. I went did this at 57 and it wasn't so bad.

You can use something else like oestrogel and progesterone separately where you can tailor the dose of oestrogen better - hopefully there will be an expert along that knows more about this.

Thank you for the reply. It is really comforting if thats the word to know that it is caused by the lowering of the doses. I am seeing a gyno this week so will discuss what is the other things I can try along with this if I can bare being on this Conti till then. Bleeding more heavy now and this has been four days so far, usually am tapering off by now. Also been going for bowel movements a lot these past few days since being on this Conti and weeing more often especially irritating waking me up abt 4 times in the night. Feeling very irritable and on edge from inside out. Appreciate your reply. Are you on any of the other things you mentioned with the Combi? If so what are they called and strength? Have your symptoms eased hun now? x
