Hi I'm 54 and have been menopausal for at least 3 years. Was on Ellest but changed to femoston in November last year. In the last 3 months my normal bleeding pattern has changed and this month I have very tender breasts. Is this because my natural hormone levels are changing and what can I do about it, if anything? I've also put on weight, mind you I'm not eating very healthily to be honest! It's starting to get me down now. Any advice?

so is this the first bleeding in the whole of 9 months?

Desertrose40 · 14/07/2017 15:30

No i was having my bleeding before normally once a month

PollyPerky · 14/07/2017 16:26

I don't understand. Conti HRT = continuous so no bleeds happen.
Sequi HRT is the sort to give a monthly bleed.
You said you used conti.

Hi. I’ve just collected a prescription for Femoston 2/10mg. Have been on elleste for over a year, moving from 1mg to 2 mg around 6 mtgs ago. I visited my doctor as bad night sweats have returned. So hoping Femoston will help.

My query is that I find I am putting on a lot of weight over the last few months. I know it’s not a result of diet or eating more or less exercise so I can only think it is related to the HRT. It’s starting to really bother me.

I wondered if any of you had similar experiences? Is it possible that changing to the new tablet will help this? Femoston appears to have higher levels of progesterone (10mg) compared to the 1mg in elleste. Is this even relevant?

Any help welcomed! I started menopause quite early ( 42) and find the whole HRT thing a minefield

PollyPerky · 02/02/2018 18:21

why did you change from one sort to another?

MadamPrudence · 02/02/2018 18:42

I visited my dr whilst still taking elleste 2 MG last week and explained that the night sweats had returned and were worse. She said that I as I was already on the highest dose of elleste she would try a different type. She said she would look up which would be best option and leave a prescription at reception for me. This I collected today, and it’s for Femoston

Hi I'm new here😊 does anyone know if the oestrogen in Femoston is available as oestrogen only? I have tried femoston 2/10 but the progesterone in it doesn't suit me. I have found a micronised progesterone that really suits me. I understand femoston oestrogen is oestrogen hemihydrate is it available in another brand? I hope this makes sense. I am taking elleste solo 2mg and I find it too harsh. Help please!!!

Emerald13 · 15/08/2018 12:48

I am on Femoston 2/10 too, I don’t think that estrogen makes such a difference, it is almost the same in all the brands that contain bio identical estrogen.

Emerald13 · 15/08/2018 13:00

Miss I think that Elleste solo contains the same type of estrogen with Femoston!

Missmeyanne · 15/08/2018 13:13

Thanks emerald😊 they say both elleste and femoston is the same but they aren't femoston oestrogen is estriol its weaker than estroidial I read it on menopause matters. I will have to go on searching.

Emerald13 · 15/08/2018 13:17

No, I think that it transforms into estriol in blood, actually it’s the same kind of estradiol. :)

ShootingQuadrantids · 20/08/2018 20:26

Hi everyone please can I hop on too?! Just started Femoston 1/10 for meno symptoms including low mood and aching joints amongst other things. G.P. said that if I didn't feel quite a bit better she'd up me to 2/10. Well the first fourteen days were okay but I feel VERY pms on the progesterone days. Should I persevere or will the 2/10 help me feel better on the progesterone days. Hope that I make sense?!

Hi, i have been on femoston for almost 3 months, i haven't felt any better infact feel worse, the night sweats are just has bad, and now im feeling more and more anxious, ive been back in touch with doctor and i have to wait until finished the 3 months, i am also experiencing period pain like symptoms almost every day , i have had a bleed for about 4 days, before all this, i was on depo provera injection and haven't had period for over 20 years so feel absolutely shocking right now , just want to cry , does it get better is the question i need answering or just a bit of reassuring :(

rundance · 25/08/2018 08:23

Hi, I'm 43 and am post menopause. I've not had a bleed in 12 months and FSH levels are consistently between 180-200.
To date (touch wood) I've had no menopause symptoms although I'm aware they could still happen. I'm loving it, no periods no ups and downs. I'm very active running marathons and doing triathlons so not dealing with painful periods is like a gift
5 days ago my gynae put me on femoston for bone protection due to low bone density. I took 4 of the white pills over 4 days and got a period with full on horrific cramps, vomiting and crying at everything.
Is this normal.
My menopause happened so suddenly it was almost like flicking a switch. It took me a very long time to get my head around it. I finally had and now this.
I'm so confused. I'm this first of my girlfriend's to experience this, my mum is gone and I only have uncles so I've no-one to talk to about it and draw on there experience. I feel cut adrift.
Can anyone help please? I don't even know what questions to ask the doctor at this stage.

No it is not normal at all. You need to be referred to a specialist by your GP because you are having an early menopause and need to talk over what's happened. You say you saw a gynae- are you in the UK and have you already got a gynae via the NHS?

It sounds as if you may have had a normal period which can happen if you have an early menopause- periods can resume, which tends not to happen with older women.

rundance · 25/08/2018 08:48

Thanks queenofthenights,
I'm in Ireland and went to private gynae. She was pretty insistent that I try HRT. My head is so confused I don't know what is right or wrong. I don't know what my family history is of menopause.
I always had extremely painful periods and after 12 months break I now feel even more confused.
I will ring my gynae Monday morning I think. I don't feel normal when I did even last week.

QueenoftheNights · 25/08/2018 10:21

I agree you need HRT but having this bleed may not be connected with it at all. The few pills you took won't do that.

rundance · 26/08/2018 14:50

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's a confusing time for everyone as there no one size fits all treatment.

Emerald13 · 26/08/2018 18:31

Rudance I was in the same boat a year ago at 41. I’m an athlete too. It is normal you to feel confused with all conflicting stories about hrt. For young ages hrt is absolutely nessecary. I was terribly confused and afraid too! I am still a bit...🤭

rundance · 28/08/2018 19:46

Thanks ladies. So my symptoms got a lot worse on the femoston. I rang gynae and she said to stop taking them and come in Monday. It definitely not a normal. She still thinks I should try hrt due to early meno and weighing under 50kg. So now I have kilogest. I'm afraid to start taking it though. Has anyone here any experience on it. I'd love to here your opinions. Thanks again

kalirises · 21/10/2018 12:36

I worry about the number of women who should be on continuous hrt when they should be on sequential HRT. The former is only appropriate if its been at least a year since your last period. No matter how light.

I found femoston 2/10 great for five years as the progesterone is the most gentle and the best for anyone who may suffer low moods. I went onto HRT after taking birth control pills so experienced this truth after trying many different types of progesterone.

I have now switched to femoston conti 1/5 being post menopausal as being on sequential HRT increases endometrial cancer and some speculate ovarian cancer due to the withdrawal bleeding and prior buildup.

I also want to stay on HRT longer so a lower dose manages risks there. I do find being on continuous progesterone even this gentle one means I dont have those two weeks no progesterone where i have better mood when u have only oestrogen but its something I will monitor .

I have not tried patches of oestrogen and prometrium the natural micronised progesterone as this I have heard has the same side affect on mood and does not come in a low dose. Would be interested in other womens experiences here.

Hello,
I’m 52 and after trying various HRT over last 4 years i finally felt reasonably happy on Femoston 2/10.I have been taking this for around 18 months and have liked it.
The last 2 months i have started my bleed 3/4 days after i commenced my progesterone tablets.I take it at the same time and havent missed any pills.Does this mean my hormones are on the decline again?😱I also have started to feel low again when taking my oestrogen tablets.
I would like to try oestrogel but am wary about taking progesterone tablets.
Sorry for the long post!
Thankyou😊

Emerald13 · 29/12/2018 06:34

Kalirises I have a bit different information from my gyn. He said that I can stay on seq type more than 5 years ( I have an early meno) and can use it safely until 55-60.
Continuous type is more dangerous regarding breast cancer risk cause we take progestin all the time. Another option is Tibolone that is considered safe enough cause it mimics estrogen and it is given even at patients with breast cancer.
