Hi I'm 54 and have been menopausal for at least 3 years. Was on Ellest but changed to femoston in November last year. In the last 3 months my normal bleeding pattern has changed and this month I have very tender breasts. Is this because my natural hormone levels are changing and what can I do about it, if anything? I've also put on weight, mind you I'm not eating very healthily to be honest! It's starting to get me down now. Any advice?

Abnormal bleeding is common during peri. Give to Femoston some time. I am on the same hrt for almost a year now, no problems at all. I am 43.

Hi, I’m 45 and have just been given femoston 1/10 to take, I’m very nervous about starting these tablets. I get cold & hot sweats terrible mood swings & very tearful. I am scared of weight gain! I also have depression long term and I’m worried about coping with everything. Has anyone got mental health issues that they deal with anyway on top of the menopause? I feel so lost. I just need some reassurance that this is going to work & im not going to put tons of weight on! It may sound silly but I’ve had issues with food & body image since a child. Please can you share some experiences so that I can feel more positive about taking HRT x

I am on Femoston 2/10 and I feel normal again. I am a CrossFit athlete with a healthy lifestyle and normal weight. No weight gain on Femoston, only thinner hair and perfect skin! 😂

I have now had the marina coil fitted as the irregular bleeding was becoming an issue. Femostan has settled everything down after a month but I want the confidence of not being caught out with a heavy bleed so have decided to go for the coil alongside additional Hrt. I haven’t had weight gain but an a healthy eater and regular gym goer I also find exercise helps with moods so would say try joining your local gym and doing some classes it’s great for social aspect as well as health wise x

Hi, I haven't had a period for 4 years, so I guess I'm menopausal at 51.
have been in Fenoston 1/10 for about 4 years too..
first was on 2/10 but decided to go to the lower dosage .. my hair has been thining since I started perimenopause.. it's awful. I was hoping being in HRT might help but it's still thiner and thiner..
recently the sleeping is worse.. I wake up at 3am every night.. I'm so fed up.. going to see my gp at the end of the month ... I wished I could see a consultant, my quality of life since I started the peri/meno it's been awful.. any advice?? thanks!

Emerald13 · 07/03/2019 07:28

Girlin Ithink that maybe you need a higher dose of hrt to handle better your symptoms.
I don’t know if hrt helps with hair, my is thinner too than before Meno but I am not sure if it is because of hrt or due to age. I am 43.
A lot of my friends who are not in memo say that the texture of their hair has changed too.

Hi, I was given femoston 1/10 yesterday for my perimenopause symptoms, mainly that I can’t seem to stop crying, it’s seriously ridiculous 🤦‍♀️
Bad sleep, few hot flushes, some joint pain....anyways, my question is, I took the first one last night and I just feel really sick, horribly sick actually, I know this can be a side effect but I just wondered if anyone could give me an idea of how long it lasts, it’s making me not want to take it but I know I have to give it a chance....I’m 47 and still having regular periods, all these symptoms just came on strong in the past couple of months.
I’d really appreciate any advice, many thanks. 🙏

I'm 45 and have just been prescriped this for peri-menopause (well actually was first prescribed Elleste but found their are issues getting this so had to ask for something else). I collected it today from pharmacy who asked if I was stopping the pill I am on (mini pill). I said no as doc has just moved me off combined pill on to mini pill so that I can start HRT. He suggested I check with them! Am concerned- anyone else on this with the mini pill??

cricketballs3 · 03/05/2019 05:29

I've had to change to Femoston (0.5/2.5) due to manufacturing issues with Tridestra and think I will need a higher dosage - bleed I've just had was heavy and the night sweats are back with a vengeance. Can I ask and up dosage in the middle of 3 month pack?

FEMOSTON - Bleed
Hi I’m 51 & since months since I started taking Femoston 2mg . For first few weeks I had daily spotting but since then nothing until 10 days ago . Since then the bleed has become increasingly heavy . I am 8 days into a new packet now . Anyone know if this is normal occurrence ? Don’t really want to go to GP over something that could be normal !!

SuKi50 · 08/05/2019 15:45

Sorry that should have read 6 months since I started in Femoston 2mg

JinglingHellsBells · 08/05/2019 16:59

Is this the sequi version or the conti?
Assume it's sequi and the bleed type.
2mgs is a medium-high dose of estrogen.

Are you still in peri or post meno?

If in peri, your own hormones may still be adding estrogen, hence the thicker lining and heavier bleed.

If you are post meno and on bleed-free you should see your GP.

SuKi50 · 08/05/2019 22:21

Ok , thank you ! I was perimenopausal when I started last October & has spotting for first month or so & nothing until 10 days ago when bleed started & has got progressively heavier .
My pack reads as follows - top half :
Femoston - conti 1mg/5mg film coated & lower part reads
Estradiol/Dydrogesterone .
Not sure what exactly that means re bleed being ok or not .

JinglingHellsBells · 09/05/2019 08:36

You should have a detailed patient leaflet in the pack. No?
This might explain what to expect - ie a monthly withdrawal bleed.

The type you use now has 2 hormones which are like a normal fertile cycle- estrogen for 4 weeks and progestogen for 2 weeks. You will have a withdrawal bleed when you finish the progestogen(same as happens in a normal cycle.)

It's nothing to worry about but if you carry on bleeding at odd times, see your GP.

Eloisedublin123 · 09/07/2019 13:52

Help needed with taking femoston 2/10 please! Always suffered from very bad pmt. I’m only 46 but mum had menopause at 44. Suffering from bad night sweats and gap between periods more than before (35 days instead of 25 days). Have put on weight and lost sex drive. Went to doc today and she prescribed femoston 2/10 but said I can start now if I want. But my period is due in 7/10 days time so that doesn’t make sense, as I won’t be able to “take advantage” of the extra progesterone when I would normally have pmt (I think the progesterone will help too?)
Pharmacist said start with medicine first day of my next period. Which do I do please? I’d love to start now if it helps the pmt as I feel rubbish. 🤨Thank u x

Eloisedublin123 · 09/07/2019 13:53

Ps sorry if this is the wrong place to post

Tina33ssj · 24/07/2019 23:04

Hi I have just started talking Femoston 1/10 for perimenopausal symptoms. The day after the first tablet I suffered bad cramps and diarrhea, day 3 and I am still having stomach cramps periodically. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it settle down? I am not sure if it is normal or a bad reaction to the drug?

Tina33ssj · 24/07/2019 23:09

Boom1971 how did it work out for you?

Citywest01 · 17/08/2019 13:25

Could someone please help me before I lose it altogether. I started peri menopause at 35 but was not confirmed till I was 38, started on hrt I was doing well on it but got pregnant twice in 1 year and both were miscarraiges. Had an operation on my shoulder so had to come of the hrt (can't remember which 1 it was) went back on it and it didn't help. Switched to Femoston 2/10 but I still have no energy, constantly in a mood and now I am getting awful burning like pinpricks on 1 side if my face, and eye twitching. Also awful tummy cramps and terrible diahrea (sorry) I am due back to my doctor soon I will discuss it with him but has anyone else had any of these symptons?

Jufi · 14/11/2019 03:22

Codymod1 · 01/12/2019 17:01

I’m on Femoston 2/10 first month was fine had my period when I started the pack then stopped and had nothing till I finished the pack when I started the new pack I had my period for 5-6 days then stopped and after a couple days I had intercourse a few hours after I started having pink on. The paper when I wiped then next day a little bleed but nothing after that for a day then a coloured discharge again has anyone else had this annoying on off staining etc?

Mia46 · 18/06/2020 09:15

I found this page really helpful, I started my HRT journey on Femoston about 5 weeks ago. I didn’t give myself the best start with it, cutting a long story short I misheard my doctor when we were having an over the phone consolation leaving me to believe I had to take two (both white and grey pills) at the same time......it kicked off with a very heavy period for seven days. Which I understand is fairly normal, my tummy never really stopped aching from the first day of taking them I did two weeks of that double tablet regime before I realised my mistake and by that time every cell in my body seemed to be screaming. I stopped taking the pills for a few days as recommended by my doctor. Then started again, essentially I felt much better overall. Still had a low grade tummy ache, it felt like my period was just about to start....not bad enough to warrant painkillers. Head felt calmer, focus was better, but energy levels weren’t great. Then I started on the grey pills, after a few days headaches started, tummy pain upped a bit, feel unsettled, anxious, nauseous and very emotional. I also had a gallbladder issue kick off, I don’t think the two were connected but who knows. obviously getting my dose wrong in the beginning wasn’t great, the white tablets seem to agree with me the grey ones are a bit of a challenge and can see from a number of comments that I’m not alone in this......My gut feeling is to stick with it for another month. As I say, it’s reassuring to read other people’s experiences.

Davidcam25 · 22/06/2020 18:03

Hi I started Femoston 2/10 about 5 weeks ago, the last two weeks I felt really unwell with stomach bloating feeling sick and acid reflux and feeling faint. Has anyone had these symptoms of is it something else, don’t know wether to stop or carrying on, any advice will be much appreciated.

Mia46 · 22/06/2020 18:44

Yes, I have exactly the same symptoms, I thought it was trouble with my gallbladder so much so I’ve got an ultrasound On Wednesday. I’d be keen to know if anyone else has had these symptoms
