Premature Menopause Support Group...anyone ?

Hi there. I'm just thinking about setting up a little group for us poor ladies going through premature menopause. My doctor tells me that menopause is considered premature if the woman is under age 40. I'm 38 and believe i have been in menopause since i was about 35. I had hormone blood tests a year ago that showed i was borderline menopausal...only age 37, i could hardly believe it!! Anyway i now have lots of symptoms: irregular periods, periods are lighter a nd shorter. Hot flushes at night in bed, heart palpitations, insomnia, vaginal dryness, feeling tired all the time, hair loss and hair is dry and brittle, anxiety and depression. Oh, and i almost forgot, forgetfulness as well!! I find this whole premature meno very distressing and alone very isolating. Women that i know who are around my age don't understand as they are not going through it. None of my friends are experiencing it yet so i can't talk to them. I feel very alone a nd frustrated and get tearful and angry, (menopausal moods swings to blame i would think!) I'm sure some of you ladies must feel the same. Apparently prem meno happens to one in every hundred women so we are in the minority. Just thought it might be helpful if we could chat and share our thoughts and experiences. Erilou x

hi went to the doc again today and he said need another blood test and he didn't know why I hadn't been given one sometime after the first he said finally that they might be able to put me on hypertension medicine for this he said it has side affects but wont say now he says I was peri menopausal 2 years ago but he says it might not be meno because I am only 39 but saw other doc last time and she said yes! its feels like they don't want to help. I get hot sweats no sex drive low mood snapping at my daughter and partner and no periods just wish they will help god it feels like they are useless. Help!

Lonely girl why can't you take hrt? There are very safe forms nowadays and I'm afraid gps aren't all very aware of them.

If anyone is under 50 please please consider hrt. Im tired now but www.menopausematters.co.uk has info.

I am 43 been on hrt for 2 years.

Back tomorrow for any questions

Night :)

Chuffinghormones · 16/03/2015 20:38

I would just like to add that I too take hrt, for nearly a year now. Im 32 in may.

lonelygirl01 · 17/03/2015 13:34

Hi want to go on hrt but they wont let me as i have had a blood clot in the pasted i did say what about the patches but they still said no he mentioned in passing about hypertension medicine that might help with the hot flushes but he didn't go in to details i hope i will find out more when the blood test results come back but the doctors seem very dismisses when it comes to people going through premature menopause.its like they don't believe it can happen to you cause they believe your too young so they close there mind to the fact it can be happening to you so you feel like you're wasting there time and your own!??

Hello. You cannot believe how relieved I am to have found this thread. Today I got my blood results and I am officially in menopause. I'm 39, will be 40 in September. I am in shock. I did have a feeling this was the case but now that it's actually for real......I feel my wind has beenknocked out of me Confused Do I now explain to my children what's going on? Why mummy has been so moody? My dh wants to know all about it so he can help. I feel like running away Sad I don't want HRT if I can help it. Please could anyone tell me what natural meds I could get from Tesco or somewhere, that will boost my mood and my bones etc. Or is that asking for a miracle? Feeling scared and lost. Please help Sad

pinkfrocks · 23/03/2015 18:20

HRT for women with a prem menopause is not the same as for older women- the risks do not apply.
You NEED HRT to protect not only your bones but your heart in middle age.
It's not really an option to not use HRT.
Please read all about this on the Daisy Network site.

rainbowkids · 23/03/2015 18:50

Hi pinkfrocks. Do you know if the Livial (Tibolone) is the HRT that's used?

silvachicken · 23/03/2015 20:10

Hi....doing some research. I've had a high FSH reading to go back in two months for another. Is it likely this is start of menopause?

pinkfrocks · 23/03/2015 20:25

Tibolone is not 'mainstream' although it can be used for some women who cannot take other types. Why?

rainbowkids · 23/03/2015 21:11

Well long story but here it goes. I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. In 2009 I had an endometrial ablation which solved my horrendous bleeding. The pain wasn't getting any better so last year I was put on 6 month course of decapeptyl injection to put me into medical menopause. And along with that they gave me livial add back to help with symptoms. It worked brilliantly. They then wanted to give me hysterectomy but I refused. Thank goodness I did because look what happened now I am officially in natural menopause. Scary but it has its pros I suppose.

sadalot · 02/04/2015 08:12

Hi guys ! Just going to the Drs to confirm the menopause after my 2nd blood test. I'm going to be 39 this September. Still in shock but hey that's life for you. Drs said she will put me on HRT but please anyone does HRT help with my thinning hair ?

pinkfrocks · 02/04/2015 16:57

It might help your hair but there is no guarantee- but hopefully, yes.

sadalot · 02/04/2015 23:24

Thanks pinkfrocks , fsh level is at 40 with the 2nd blood test but they want me to have a clear smear test before they start HRT. My confidence has gone downhill cause if my thinning hair. Can't sleep , anxious , the list is endless

graduatedbob · 09/04/2015 22:32

Can I join in? I have been having periods every two weeks for the majority of the year so was sent to have blood tests. Rang doc who said, 'Yes, FSH high, probably approaching menopause if not there already...definitely need HRT as you are 38...book an appointment...cheerio!'.

morethanpotatoprints · 09/04/2015 22:41

Hello I'm well past this now as 48, but wanted to tell you my story.
At 37 I had been scanty for about a year so went to the gp and had hormone tests, I was officially on the menopause. The irregularity continued for a few weeks but I started to feel weird in other ways. Went for what I thought would be more hormone tests, did a pg test and was expecting dd.
She was the miracle baby we didn't think we would have and her brothers are 9 and 13 years older than her.
Apparently, this happens a lot as if there isn't enough to cope with. Grin

1ppkev · 29/07/2015 10:35

Hi all ???? I'm 45 I was on the contraceptive pill for 20+yrs I came off it after my hubby got "the snip" had a few months of irregular bleeding then bang! The most awful hot flushes started got my bloods done and yep low hormone levels that suggested menopause I started on 1/10 femoston they made no difference to me I did exactly 1 month on them the clonadine the Dr gave me are amazing I don't know how I would of coped without them they stopped my flushes and night sweats so today is my first day of taking the next step up 2/10 I hope these work soon so I can stop taking the clonadine anyone have any idea how long it will take for the 2/10 to kick in???

UghMug · 05/08/2015 08:27

Hello. I've just turned 40 & think I'm at least perimenopausal. I had hoped to be TTC #2 but my hormones have been so haywire & hellish these past 2 months (& my cycle much shorter & heavier all year - don't even get me started on the night sweats!) that I think I've missed my chance. Because of my age no one will take me seriously including my GP when I ask about menopause, not helped by the fact I look about twentybloodyfive. I have never felt so alone as I do right now scouring the internet for just a glimmer of hope that this isn't the end of my reproductive years & the start of hormonal hell. All the females in my family were normal for menopause my mum 56 and my aunts at 59. They all had children well in their 40s.

Can anyone teach me how to embrace this next journey because at the moment all I want to do is cry :(

Sorry for sounding so miserable

1ppkev · 05/08/2015 09:39

Hi ughmug have you had your bloods checked yet? If not demand u have them done to see if you are starting the menopause I've just been diagnosed myself and hate the idea of it all my Hrt tabs are starting to kick in a bit as my mood isn't just as low as it was I've just finished my first period on hrt it was my first since 4th may omg it was so heavy but short? Only lasted about 3 days can anybody let me know if this is "normal" xx

UghMug · 05/08/2015 22:59

Thanks 1ppkev, what bloods should I ask for?

UghMug · 06/08/2015 11:44

Well it doesn't matter what bloods I should ask for as the GP refused to test for it. She said it's pointless unless I'm actually going through menopause - wasn't that the point of testing, to help find out?

1ppkev · 07/08/2015 14:51

That's awful!!!! I'd demand to see another doctor tell her you want NEED your hormones checked she can't diagnose you without them being checked!! So she doesn't know that you aren't going through it I really feel for you plz demand to see another gp xx

mandmsmummy · 07/08/2015 23:26
