Normally I have nice, light, regular periods. No cramping, no pain or bloating (I know, I've been incredibly fortunate).

This month I am having the period from hell. Very heavy, feel like I've put on 2 stone in as many days, and absolutely horrific cramps that nothing is shifting.

I've spent hours in a steaming hot bath today, and just want to crawl into bed with a big mug of tea and LittleDog to cuddle.

I'm 44.

In a strange-good-way I'm glad I'm not alone!

I did make DH smirk earlier, I gave him the joyful news that when I do get the proper menopause DD should be well into her monthly cycle by then - he muttered something about buying a house for him and DS somewhere far, far away Wink

Hassled · 16/10/2011 20:08

If it helps, you've all made me feel heaps better. So nice to know I'm not alone - the exhaustion, the feeling like I'm about to start ages before I actually do (sore boobs, tearfulness, anger, more tearfulness), the heaviness of the bleeding, the complete irregularity (anything between 20 days and 35 days - both better than the few months of 14 days cycle I went through last year), all of it.

And then throw in the forgetfulness - I actually congratulated myself on managing to remember to take that nice new hair conditioner into the bathroom before I had a shower this morning. The remembering felt like an achievement. Pathetic. It sucks. It is unfair.

ElectricSoftPusPornParade · 16/10/2011 20:08

I thinks its worth us all paying a trip to the GP, can't hurt.

I am becoming more and more vague. I wander around forgetting things and then getting cross with myself and then forgetting what I am cross about too.

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:10

Sore boobs
Vagueness
Weepiness

I'm going to take myself to the GP for a hormone test.

And a new quiche is born.

Hormonal Harpies?

Katisha · 16/10/2011 20:14

Oh can I blame the forgetfulness on this?
Excellent.

I also forget actual words which is a pain. Not just where I left my reading glasses...

witchywitchof2biggerones · 16/10/2011 20:15

Had forgotten about the forgetfulness Wink

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:18

I forget what I'm talking about halfway through a sentence. Or just stop talking.

"DH pass me the (insert anything here). You know, the thing, that thingy, THERE! THE THINGY! God, don't help then .

Typical conversation atm.

witchywitchof2biggerones · 16/10/2011 20:22

Oh dear god, what are we like?! I was talking to pil today and mid way through a sentence had to stop to remember a word (actually found myself clicking my fingers to try and remember, wtf)

I've just channel surfed and thought "Oh good, Antiques Roadshow". If that's not the thought of a menopausal woman, I don't know what is.

When my periods went through their twice a month phase, the Dr said: either it's fibroids (sent to the hospital for a hideous internal scan - no fibroids) or an infection (swabs taken - no infection) or the start of the menopause. She said we can do tests if you want, but might as well just wait and see. And like a fool I agreed to just wait and see - I need to remember (ha! that will involve holding on to a thought!) to go back and demand tests. I need to know WTF is going on. I can't be doing with all the weeping anymore.

witchywitchof2biggerones · 16/10/2011 20:33

Themaster... well impressed you're training for a 1/2 marathon, when and where is it?

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:34

I have taken to watching Daytime TV with aplomb. I used to have taste, now I'll watch anything. Unless it makes me cry, I do that a lot anyway, don't need further encouragement.

crazynannawitchbitch · 16/10/2011 20:38

I am loving Upstairs Downstairs on a Saturday morning Blush

oldsilverbullet · 16/10/2011 20:42

This is me too. Periods are getting so heavy and the days inbetween fewer and fewer = Am hoping they'll get to the stage it's down to zero soon [hgrin] Hot flushes during the day though. And just to confuse me I get about 4 days on, then a whole 24 hour gap, then it starts again for a couple of days - Pah!! Bloating - yes, tiredness - oh my god yes. Weepies - Oh yes.

I went to the GPs about a year ago, did the whole infection and fibroids/hideous scan thing - they said to go when I wasn't on, I had to apologise that the window of opportunity for that was very very small [hsmile]

Am 45 - it's not been right since DS was born nearly 6 years ago - Can I join!

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:44

Welcome osb, kindly admire my faux marble bath though, please.

I wrote a meeting in my diary for 10 to 11, twice ... It is in fact at 1050 on both occasions.

Bellavita · 16/10/2011 20:46

Gawd, what Cyb described, that could be me Shock

I have the night heat from HELL. It is like it just takes over my whole body.

Very forgetful too.

The blood loss/clots is awful.

I am 46 btw so am probably well on my way to the menopause.

oldsilverbullet · 16/10/2011 20:46

Faux marble bath duly admired ... did it come like that or is it your own artistry??

ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:46

I have an alarm on my phone for everything. Even putting the bins out. It's the only way I can function. [hconfused]

OP posts:
ScarahStratton · 16/10/2011 20:47

It came like that. I shall sell it on Ebay and make my fortune. [hgrin]

Right,on RECENTLYFOUNDOUT's comment (thankyou btw),I have done what I shouldn't have done....friggin' Googled and scared myself shitless. I have 3 maybe 4 symptoms, but only one of the main 3 of ovarian cancer. But,I have had these symptoms for years,so surely I would be dead by now?
Will make an appt

witchywitchof2biggerones · 16/10/2011 20:52
