Hiya folks. I noticed in an old discussion you were trying to get a meet up organised. Did it ever happen? I am new to mumsnet. I have a 19 month old son and would like to chat to local mums. I am based in Edinburgh!! Hope to hear from you soon!!!

suedomin - where are you now? Confused

Harrysmum · 18/07/2003 21:42

I could do the third if it's in Edinburgh/East coastish but not the others. It sounds like fun.

suedonim · 18/07/2003 23:05

Tinker, I'm back in Scotland and praying desperately we don't get sent to Nigeria!!

Janeway · 19/07/2003 01:14

3rd fine
16/17th sorry - I'll be around the Kyles of Bute
24th fine

... and let me know if I need to drag out my old judo kit to help debbyj beat up forestfly's ex....

Tissy · 19/07/2003 09:59

Oops! Meant West-Coastish of course!

Nome · 19/07/2003 11:19

I'm a lurker, but will be visiting my mum in Edinburgh for the first week in August...free babysitting plus decent tap water for a change

mears · 19/07/2003 11:23

At the moment I can't come to any of them because I am working them all. However, if a date and venue is agreed I'll try and do a shift swap.

Loobie · 19/07/2003 11:25

Is it just me or is the third of august starting to look like a promising date?

debbiej · 19/07/2003 13:14

Hiya,
I am just back from visiting my mum in West Lothian so I haven't been keeping up to date with arrangements! DS and I stayed the night and I had to share a bed with him. Wee soul has a bit of a cold so I didn't get much sleep. Am also a bit hung over - well you have to push the boat out a bit sometime!!! Sunday 3rd August is fine,as is 24th Aug so far.

So we need to see who can do when and where, then find suitable venue.

Janeway - I am impressed with the judo, if forestfly still wants us to 'ave a word in her ex's shell-like - I'll just be moral support - you can do the business.

Anyway I think I need to go lie down. Ds is asleep just now. I just can't handle my drink like the old days!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZ

We're in Scotland on the 3rd! Hopefully not island bound for the whole 2 weeks. There's an internet cafe in Millport now (well it has one PC) so I can keep checking. Wow - looking vaguely possible

Loobie · 20/07/2003 20:06

does anyone have any suitable suggestions about where? Are we just chatting or eating also? Are kids yes or no,if yes then its going to have to be somewhere to entertain them too. ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYBODY?

JanZ · 21/07/2003 10:08

It's looking like we are coming down in favour of the 3rd - so that's one variable off the list.

Now for venue: Bobsmum - would you be able to get to Edinburgh? I think the rest of us are flexible enought to go to either Edinburgh or Glasgow, except Harrysmum, who has expressed a preference for East Coast - but I am not sure about mears and Tissy (I realise that Mears would also need to negotiate a shift change).

So, next question: if it's the 3rd, who can make it and do you have a preference for Edinburgh or Glasgow (or no preference)? Also, do you want/need to bring kids along (and what age would they be)? That can then help in working out a venue.

Let's assume a lunchtime do.

I'd prefer Glasgow (if only because it was in Edinburgh last time) - but am happy to go across to Edinburgh. I'll probably NOT bring ds (although I still need to check with dh if the date is OK and whether he is doing anything else) - but it's not a big deal if I do have to bring him.

If it is Edinburgh, I would suggest Agenda again - it was good food, relatively easily accessible (for West Coasters - train to Haymarket and bus along Corstorphine Road), plus it had a good wee soft play area for the kids.

Despite the fact that I'm Glasgwegian, I haven't been able to think of any "kid friendly" venues" in central Glasgow - the best I could come up with was downstairs in Princes Square (Buzzy Wares or d'Arcy's) where the kids can then run around the mosaic area.

Anyway - back to the floor for comments!

Loobie · 21/07/2003 13:09

I would prefer edinburgh as its easier for me to get to,dont drive so need public transport also dont now Glasgow at all.I would be bringing kids with me 2 ds at 7 and 5 and dd 8mths,on my own so no one to take them.

Janeway · 21/07/2003 19:16

Edinburgh based so that's easier for me but happy to travel - not sure yet if I'll bring ds (17m.o.) depends on where etc...

debbiej · 21/07/2003 21:55

I would prefer Edinburgh, myself. I will more than likely be bringing ds. I am happy with Agenda as I haven't been there before. Chat and lunch sounds great to me!

Loobie, I live in West Edinburgh and would offer to pick you up from Livingston but don't think we would all get in the car!!

Everyone else happy with Edinburgh?! Show of hands please!!!

Yes agenda sounds fine to me too its just along the road from the zoo i noticed it last week when i took the kids(to the zoo not to agenda)Thanks for the offer debbie, dont worry im used to public transport.

Tissy · 22/07/2003 12:57

I'd prefer Glasgow, with or without dd.

Princes Square seems fine to me.Actually, might leave dd behind and do some shopping!!

JanZ · 22/07/2003 13:06

Unfortunately Tissy it looks like the majority are coming down in favour of Edinburgh.... we could always meet up some other time in Glasgow!

Plus Loobie can't make it to Glasgow (and having looked into public trasport once to Livingston from Glasgow, it IS a nightmare and takes ages!).

Any other expressions of interest?

butterflymum · 22/07/2003 13:17

Edinburgh would have been no problem, but I will probably not be in Scotland on the third. Never mind though, hope all of you who do manage to meet have a lovely time (I will keep a watch out for any future meets).

Best wishes.

butterfly

suedonim · 22/07/2003 17:22

I may well be in the area anyway, as dd1 wants me to take her to stay with a pal in Edin on the 3rd.

Demented · 22/07/2003 20:10

You'll have to count me out too, I can't do the 3rd. Have fun!

Bobsmum · 23/07/2003 21:43

Internet connection has been down for the past few days so i'm only just catching up.
Definitely can't make it on the 3rd. We'll be in Millport by then, and the furthest we'd travel from there would be back to Glasgow and even that's a bit iffy (after a 7 hour drive from Hemel Hempstead!).

Will be thinking of you all though - have a great time!

dh is contemplating asking for a transfer to his company's office in Glasgow some time next year which would be a dream come true.

mears · 24/07/2003 00:35

Sorry to say that I would not be able to make the 3rd either - enjoy

Loobie · 24/07/2003 12:30

There seems to be a few who cant make the 3rd we could always change the date to a more suitable one?
