I have just moved to deepest, darkest somerset with my dh & 2yr old ds. Although I love the rural surroundings and could garden and tend to the animals all day I am feeling slightly guilty that my son is not getting as much of the social stuff that he was used to in the city. Summer hols mean all groups and activities have stopped, so I was wondering if anyone with children in this area would want to make contact and poss come out to play with us?

What, nobody?

Bump this again between 6 and 9pm, you should catch some of the Somerset folk then

littlerach · 09/08/2005 10:58

Whereabouts in Somerset?

kinkycat · 09/08/2005 18:05

Thanks NomDePlume. I am in a little village in the Polden Hills, between Street and the M5 (not an attractive description, but it is really very pretty!) You from around here littlerach?

Nope!!
Actually, not that far, Wiltshire.
Keep bumping this up during the day, you might find someone close by.

kinkycat · 10/08/2005 11:07

I am not too good at this as at night when most people are on-line I am either working around the place or asleep! Oh what fun I am. Ah well, still looking for those somerset dwellers...

Which village? I only ask coz I just moved away from Bridgwater (typical!) and used to work for HomeStart there, so know lots of the kids stuff going on in the area. How old is your son, also?
I ahve loads of links there still - bigly (a new word!) in with the carnival scene there

Aragon · 10/08/2005 12:34

I'm in Crewkerne and work in Chard (where we are soon to have HomeStart thank goodness).
I'd be really interested in a meet up. My son is 2.5 and demonstrates all the typical 2.5 year old behaviour.

PeachyClair · 10/08/2005 12:35

Dh is from Chard, they're finally getting HS there are they? Excellent! We're in a kids carnival club in Ilminster, commute down every Sunday, long way but it's the nearest we have to a social life!

Dinker · 10/08/2005 12:38

Hi I have just moved to Yeovil about 2 months ago. My DS is 7 months and I'd be interested in a meet-up

kinkycat · 10/08/2005 19:46

What is homestart?

Carnival?! Wow, I have been to Wells a couple of times to watch it, but know nothing about the organisation.

Glad to hear I am not alone down here. I am in Moorlinch and drive (not sure how I would survive without my car). Where is central for meet-up? I really have no idea, will need to look at a map. DS is 2 yrs old.

Peachyclair, I would really like to know what goes on, thank you. I have met a few other very nice mums, but their kids are generally older and don't want to play with a toddler. I have found a few great child friendly places to go, but I would like to meet-up with others so ds can play with similar aged kids. Aragon - you and your son fit the bill! But that is not meant to exclude you Dinker, other mums are a bonus so I would love to meet up with you too. Looking forward to Toddler groups in Sept (altho they are a bit scary).

Gosh thewurzels you must be local. Thanks for the response. I plan to use toddlers in Ashcott when they start in Sept. The bookings lady at Edington vilage hall was fab and gave me a list of stuff going on there. However, groups are not operating in summer hols so I am looking for local mums with toddlers to keep ds entertained now.

Ohh, I'm a Somerset Girl. From Yeovil, lovely to see all the place names. Miss it being up in London. Hope you manage a get together.

Aragon · 11/08/2005 22:29

So is there a time and date arranged yet?

How about somewhere like Glastonbury or Wells or Taunton?

Aragon · 11/08/2005 22:41

How about an Autumn or Christmas meet?

Aragon · 11/08/2005 22:42

Clarks Village would be good for me as well.

kinkycat · 12/08/2005 12:20

Any of those places are just fine by me, but I was thinking of a meet next week or the week after!

Fimbo · 12/08/2005 14:33

Aragon - We spent last week on our hols in Thorncombe!! Do you know it? I could have done with some info about child friendly places to eat!! We had to make do with Wetherspoons in Chard.

P.s Sorry for the gatecrash!!

morningpaper · 12/08/2005 14:48

Suggest a date! I'm around the county town...

marne · 12/08/2005 14:52

Hi, i live in dorset but not far from yeovil, my dd is 18 months if thats any help?

Dinker · 12/08/2005 16:04

I can do Clarks village, or Taunton, or anywhere really

puddleduckling · 14/08/2005 00:26

Hi folks, I live near Street and my daughter is 7mths old - is anyone in the area around my age? (25) I haven't lived here long and all the other mums in my PN group were quite a bit older, so I was really hoping to find someone else a little more ... ahem ... immature ...

Aragon · 14/08/2005 11:12

How about an October meeting?

Clarks shopping village? Or is there somewhere better?
