I have just moved to deepest, darkest somerset with my dh & 2yr old ds. Although I love the rural surroundings and could garden and tend to the animals all day I am feeling slightly guilty that my son is not getting as much of the social stuff that he was used to in the city. Summer hols mean all groups and activities have stopped, so I was wondering if anyone with children in this area would want to make contact and poss come out to play with us?

Clarks great for me and the more of us the merrier. Puddleduckling - I am older than you, but pride myself in my ability to be immature/inappropriate so do come along to a meet.

However, does Clarks have anywhere to entertain kids on a rainy October day?

The only rainy-day place I can think of in Clarks is the coffee shop - not much space for kids to crawl around, or maybe the food hall - don't know what set up they have for toddlers. I could have a look next time I'm in town ... Kinkycat, I shall hold you to your claim of immaturity if we manage a meet

whoops!

kinkycat · 15/08/2005 13:35

Not entirely convinced Clarks could keep my toddler entertained, and would no doubt result in tantrums and breakages. Are there any local soft play venues, or play areas with cafes attached?

I'll have a loom at our local NCT booklet and in the "Parents Somerset" mag to see if there's anything advertised which looks child friendly. It would be nice to meet up - and also (just a thought) a Mums night out could be fun as well.

Slave2Babe · 15/09/2005 15:51

bumping this for Busyalexsmummy too ...

twinmummy04 · 16/09/2005 09:22

Hi all, Just saw this thread and thought I'd have a nose, I was thinking you guys might be too far from me (I live ourskits of Bath but towards Wells) but if you do go to Clarkes village than thats not too far at all, I met my mum there on Wednesday for the day.

I have twin boys nearly a year, and I'm 27yrs and a STHM.
I lived in somerset all my life until 9 yrs ago (in a small village about 7 miles from Minehead) so do I still qualify to join you guys??

Twinmummy x

Hi twinmummy, don't know about everyone else (as this thread seems to have been abandoned!) but if you're still up for meeting up in Street or Wells or somewhere in the area maybe we could set something up? I'm 25 and my daughter is now nearly 10mths.

twinmummy04 · 20/10/2005 22:51

Hi puddleduckling, I think this thread has been abandoned, I find a few people start them and then disappear, anyway yes I'm up for a meet up, I now have two 1 yr olds no idea how that happened time is going too fast.

I can get to clarkes village o.k, I have taken the boys a few time to meet my mum and it's always been fine, or wells is o.k although I have only been there once, strange as I only live 15mins away, driven through it loads though.

Let me know what you think x

puddleduckling · 27/10/2005 21:20

Hi twinmummy
Haven't been online all week as my daughter has been teething ( poor child!) so hope you haven't given up on me! I can usually make any day except Tuesdays and Clarks or Wells is fine for me - if you email me on catswhiskers at fastmail.co.uk we can organise something...
(BTW when I was a kid I never used to believe adults when they complained about time flying but now I know exactly what they meant!)

twinmummy04 · 31/10/2005 10:36

Hi Puddleduckling, I'm sending you an email now

LittleB · 11/11/2005 16:21

Only just found this thread, I'm in Crewkerne, work in Chard like Aragorn! My dd is 6 months, and I'm 29, I'd like to meet up with other somerset mumsnetters. My sister is also a Yeovil mumsnetter with a dd and ds and would try to join too. Does anyone fancy a Christmas Somerset get together, we could meet at Clarks Village and do some Christmas shopping too?

Enid · 11/11/2005 16:23

flossam stop getting misty eyed about the Quedam you freak

joelalie · 07/03/2006 13:34

Hi,

just resurrected this ancient thread 'cos I was so surprised to see anything about Somerset!!! Normally people seem to come from just about anywhere else but here.

I live in Somerset, Bridgwater in fact so not far from Street. Small world isn't it?

Steppy1 · 07/03/2006 18:48

...we're looking to move to Somerset, hopefully in the Summer.... looking at a house this Saturday....we're hoping to move near to Street......

joelalie · 08/03/2006 11:23

Where are you moving from Steppy?

I love it here so I'm biased - hope you like the house. Do you know the area already?

Busyalexsmummy · 13/03/2006 14:13

Right, Im going to try and remember to keep coming on and bumping this thread up as there must be more of us on here from somerset!

(Ps myself and dp are in glastonbury and we have 2 sons, ds1-2yrs , ds2- 15wks!)

fifi26 · 13/03/2006 17:07

Also looking to move to Somerset(Taunton) in the next couple of months. Know no-one in the area apart from dp's family so would love to meet up with some other mums.

I'm 26 and dd is 9 months.

Busyalexsmummy · 13/03/2006 22:06

bump

twinmummy04 · 15/03/2006 10:27

Where are you thinking of meeting up Busyalexsmummy??, anywhere from wells to street and the bits inbetween isn't too far for me, :-)

TM04

Busyalexsmummy · 15/03/2006 11:37

I dont mind,Im a bit restricted as I dont drive atm(am having lessons!) but would love to meet up as Im feeling quite isolated and ds1 seems to be having terrible 2's really bad, I think in part due to the fact we're not going at much atm. streets very easy for me to get to, wells is ok too, but dont know of much to do there??
We have hullabaloos(soft play) in glastonbury, which is a small estabilshment, but quite nice and quiet for the smaller ones during weekdays. it has a little cafe too.
let me know what you think?
BAM xSmile

Busyalexsmummy · 15/03/2006 11:45

Ps slave-Im in frome quite alot, My godmother lives up by frome college and my best friend lives up critchell(sp?) areaSmile

twinmummy04 · 15/03/2006 13:21

Hullabaloos sounds alright, never been there but my two love soft playcentres, how much is it?? If you go to frome have you been to Junction21? My two love that place, can you get there easily?? that has cafe etc too.

I bet you do feel isolated not driving, I love my car and couldn't do without it, all of our groups are driving distance so we would be lost.
Good luck with the lessons :)

I know what you mean about them needing to get out, my two are like caged animals if we stay in all day( normally monkeys):)

TM04

Busyalexsmummy · 15/03/2006 15:41

I think iirc that its £2.90 for under 3's....
Frome is a little more difficult to get to with ds1, I usually go on my own with ds2 when I go to see my friend and leave ds1 at home with dp as the 1+1/2hr bus journey gets him rather wound up!! My friend takes her little boy there though and raves about the place, but no, I havent yet been
