Don't give up yet! You could always drive. Probably not much more petrol to France than it is to Cornwall.

binklegoestoLondon · 03/01/2008 22:18

Lyra, I would be really interested in a villa in Italy as well - if you manage to find details of any nice ones can you pass them onto me please? We almost went to Italy last year but it didnt come off but I would love to go and as you say the short flights are a big incentive.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 23:32

Marvellous, we can look together dahling!
We stayed in this house in 2006. It was recently refurbished with 3 acres of olive groves and amazing views over the Gran Sasso National Park but it was very remote (down a steep dirt track) so not for everyone. It was certainly an experience though and close (15 mins drive) to the beach and an ancient, very Italian town with very few English speakers and fantastic food. Flights were incredibly cheap and we did the whole thing for £1,600 including car hire.
We'll be looking for somewhere a bit closer to civilisation this time and hopefully with a pool. I'll let you know what we find.

FFS
Yet another bitchy thread started by Cod.

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 09:04

that house is beautiful!

As for Cod, she appears to be the acceptable face of bullying and bitching on MN.

To give her credit, she can take what she dishes but why does she feel the big need to dish in the first place? That's down to her own psyche I suppose (am assuming its a woman)

LyraSilvertongue · 04/01/2008 10:30

She's obviously very insecure and feels the need to attack others to make herself feel better. What's more worrying is the number of people who join in when she starts bitching. Doesn't exactly make you feel welcome on MN.

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 12:08

Blimey! What did anyone do to arouse such vitriol?

Anway, back in our own sad little world...I think the Italian villa sounds great - maybe I could persuade DH that this would be better than getting soaked in Ireland or bitten in Scotland. Anyone know somewhere around the lakes?

Berrie, if you're considering camping in Cornwall this year, I'll pump my mates for details of 'hidden' campsites if you like - if they'll pass on the details, that is.

Berrie · 04/01/2008 12:25

That's great Zeb, thanks!

How are we going to recognise one another? Will we all wear a flower? I'm feeling really nervous of the initial meet up!

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 12:33

Easy, five gorgeous and elegant women will be naturally drawn to their own kind and thus we will spot each other with no problems at all!! (the I love Lee badges will help too )

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 12:48

I dont actually own an I love Lee badge btw, in case you were worrying what the heck I might turn up looking like

Berrie · 04/01/2008 12:54

'five gorgeous and elegant women'... That's why I'm worried Binkle

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 12:59

Cant you tell I have just got back from my weight-loss/self-empowerment hypno session!!

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 13:02

I'm not sure about gorgeous & elegant. I'll be the one looking stressed and knackered, demanding a large drink whilst stubbing out a fag, having driven up that afternoon...in jeans, but sadly not sexy boots.

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 13:06

And I'll be the one frettingly stalking along the street, rummaging desperately in my handbag exhibiting all the usual signs of 'ticket anxiety'

ie I have put them in my bag, I HAVE, stop checking, they are in there, under my purse, I'll just have a little look...F!! Where the F are they???? They were here!! Under my purse!! Oh...my...oh, hang on, there they are (huge sigh of relief and repeat to fade as time allows...)

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 13:09

Don't even say that as a joke Binkle

binklegoestoLondon · 04/01/2008 13:12

I know, I'm not kidding I always have ticket anxiety at the airport too

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 13:23

Me too! That's why my blood ran cold

Berrie · 04/01/2008 15:43

So I'll be there at lunchtime, Lytra 6ish,what time will the rest of you be here?

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 15:58

Certainly not before 6, I don't think, although I'll try. I have to get to London, dump DS and make sure DH gets back from work at a decent time, calm down for 5 minutes, then get across to you guys.

Like someone else said, we should sort out the finer detail by email. But what time does it start/finish and are all of you staying in town so we can go out after if we only have time for a quick drink first?

Berrie · 04/01/2008 16:02

Oggs, Binkle and I are all staying at the same hotel...we're not actually going to get that long together if you think about it, maybe a couple of hours? I assume Zeb and Lyra will have to be catching the last trains, what time are they? How far away is your flat Zeb and what are you up to the next day?

Zebedeedoodah · 04/01/2008 16:30

A couple of hours is great! Which hotel did you go for in the end (email that, if you prefer)? I'll be getting a taxi, so I'm not really fixed on time, and I'm not sure on the next day, it depends on whether DH is driving back to Cornwall with me, although as it's the end of the month I'm not sure shopping's on the cards!

Berrie · 04/01/2008 16:38

I wasn't complaining!

Berrie · 04/01/2008 16:40

It's further down this thread somewhere so the real nutters should find it anyway if there are any...The Strand Palace.

Zebedeedoodah · 05/01/2008 11:34

My recommendation. I hope it's ok, or aren't I the one in trouble! (Get me, I made the pooter work at home again. Blinkin dial up, but better than nought).

I can name a couple of bars around there, which aren't up themselves or too touristy, but I'm sure Lyra can too.

LyraSilvertongue · 05/01/2008 12:23

I don't know the area that well any more (as I hardly ever go out in town any more) so best to trust Zeb's recommendations. Or DP could suggest some. I'll ask him.
Looks like we're going to Crete in the summer, not Italy. Four hours' flight and reasonable prices on two-bed villas with private pools. How exciting!!!
