You lot had better furnish me with all the lovely hol details.... we don't do them.
Dd and I visit my parents in summer for a week or two and apart from visiting them at Christmas that is it.
I can count the number of times dh and I have been away on hols on one hand.
We did a weekend in Amsterdam, a couple of weekends camping in the lake district and cornwall and the last was when we went to Thailand to get married - 14 years ago.
Oh I tell a lie, we went overnight camping when dd was about 18months so dh could go on a heavy horse working day.
Think of me when you are pooside.

oggsfrog · 03/01/2008 12:19

poolside

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 12:20

Did you mean to say pooside?
Why don't you do holidays Oggs? I'd go mad without them.

oggsfrog · 03/01/2008 12:30

No-one to look after 2 cats, 1 dog, 2 poinies, 8 chickens; lack of money; the fact that after 24 hours away from home dh begins to get antsy; we're not exactly the most sociable people; we just don't seem to be holiday people.

We both used to work full time and our dream was to leave it all behind. We've done that. Got the place we want, and a lifetime of things to do, and dh especially is happy never to leave .

I honestly cannot think of a single type of holiday that dh would enjoy. He has mentioned going to The Seychelles at some point as he lived there for a few years when he was about 12. BIL and family live in Thailand, so maybe they could join us. This is a very much perhaps scenario, and at the moment is just something we mention occasionally (very occasionally )

Honestly, it's not something I ever really give much thought to as we are doing what we want here and feel no need to get away from it.

Sad eh?

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:35

Is every day a holiday at yours?

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:36

Oops xpost...Not sad at all!

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:37

I'm all excited about Eurocamp and have ordered a brochure. Would have to put anniversary money to it though...
Not keen about camping in such close proximity to others though.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:38

Is DH thai?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 12:43

Not sad at all Oggs. it sounds like you all really enjoy your lifestyle which is great.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 12:44

If there's anything you need to know Berrie i can ask my friend.

oggsfrog · 03/01/2008 12:45

No. BIL moved over there about 17 years ago. SIL is Thai .

Gawd. Every day does not feel like a holiday. At the moment I've got fingers crossed that it doesn't snow/freeze as it means that our gas bottles freeze as does the water in our water tower, which means manually collecting the water we need from the river. Not nice. No baths, not able to do washing, a pain in the bum. At least no midges at this time of year

I too would have a problem camping very close to others. Can you not find one of these campsites with secluded pitches?

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 12:49

It sounds so different to my life here in London.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:55

I'm looking at the mobile homes at the moment though they seem a little squashed together too.
Oggs, your life sounds like my dear friend only she live in Uganda. They have a water tank underground full of frogs and things. If the electricity comes on they pump it up to the tower where it is slightly warmed by the sun and they can shower.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:56

Are you really remote?

Berrie · 03/01/2008 12:59

Thanks Lyra, a reccomendation for a park would be nice, you can never tell from the brochure.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 13:02

I'll ask.
Might be worth asking on the Mn travel section too. I'm sure loads of MNers have been to Eurocamps.

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 13:07

Here's a useful-looking thread

Berrie · 03/01/2008 13:17

How far away is 74km, we can fly from up the road to Nantes for £25 each!

Berrie · 03/01/2008 13:20

ooo thanks Lyra...am all excited...know what'll happen, DH will come home and put a damper on it!

Zebedeedoodah · 03/01/2008 13:26

There's never a dull moment here. I pop out for 5 minutes to buy a pair of shoes and we've all booked our camping space at Oggs gaff .

But we're the same, and haven't been on a proper holiday since our honeymoon 4 years ago (Scotland), and the previous one was 10 years ago. Nights away for the Royal Show don't count!

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 13:55

74km. Hmm, about 50 miles?
I don't think my friends needed their car once they were there so it would probably be ok to fly but you won't be able to take as much stuff. £25 is pretty cheap.
Some campsite will arrange to pick you up at the airport for a fee. See if they do that.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 14:17

Yeah I did. About £300 return...

LyraSilvertongue · 03/01/2008 18:54

£300 to pick you up from the airport?
Taxi would be cheaper surely.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 19:17

It was a taxi service I think. 73 km / 100 minutes.
Cheaper to hire a car.

Berrie · 03/01/2008 20:45

Ah well, the dream is over for another year. DH pointed out to me that although it was £25 air fare, it was £25 each way plus tax each way for four of us...anyway, it worked out at £788, then car hire on top of that before the cost of the actual tent.
Cornwall it is then!
