Wonder if my friend would like a charming jigsaw.

LyraSilvertinsel · 30/12/2007 11:08

I'm off to Ikea now to try and find a big bathroom cabinet. I figure if I can't nag DP into being tidier (believe me, I've tried, in vain) then I can at least hide the mess, spending his money in the process.

Good luck!

binklebells · 30/12/2007 19:18

I've booked my room - I'm in the Strand Palace!!

HollyBerrie · 30/12/2007 19:23

Hurrah!

I wonder how many corridors apart we'll be?

It'll be like a school trip!

binklebells · 30/12/2007 19:26

I know!! I am getting very excited about it all now - I am off to buy my London outfit this week. What look are you going for Berrie?

binklebells · 30/12/2007 20:12

AW Berrie!

Dont tell me you've gone to bed

oggsfrog · 30/12/2007 20:16

Lyra, much as I would like to claim Chieftainship of the renowned and respected clan McOggsfrog, wearing a rather fetching green and purple gingham plaid whilst tending my tame flock of performing haggis, and spending my evenings playing the bagpipes whilst dancing a jig, I have to come clean and admit to being from Cheshire . We moved up here 10 years ago.

oggsfrog · 30/12/2007 20:26

Binkle, what look are you going for?

I'm panicking that rather than lose weight I seem to have put on about a stone and may be pioneering the sack held together with safety pins and duck tape look .
I have not a clue what I will be wearing and it could well be jeans (that's if I can buy a pair to fit), but I figure hey, what the hell, I'm coming to see you lot not your clothes and I'm fairly confident that even if I'm fat and badly dressed you will be polite enough not to comment too much on it .

We may have to bring a cattle prod to keep Berrie awake

binklebells · 30/12/2007 20:30

Hmmm... I was thinking of going for a fusion of 'confident-girl-about-town/cultural-theatre-going-type'

However whether that can be comfortably achieve whilst donning control underwear so tight that I resemble a tapeworm when undressed I'm not sure!

Might be smart jeans although cos I'm a titch jeans dont tend to look very dressy on me

LyraSilvertinsel · 30/12/2007 20:31

See, now you've shattered my image of you Oggs. I pictured you as a red haired bespectacled Scots lassie in hippyish clothes (I'm probably completely wrong).

OP posts:
binklebells · 30/12/2007 20:31

I'm going to slip Berrie some pro-plus in her pre-theatre cocktail

LyraSilvertinsel · 30/12/2007 20:32

Binkle, you're a titch? i thought you'd be tall.

OP posts:
LyraSilvertinsel · 30/12/2007 20:33

I'm off out to see the Golden Compass in a minute if DP ever gets home from work.

OP posts:
binklebells · 30/12/2007 20:34

Nope, 5' 2"

Used to get to 5' 5" in the good old days of big 80's hair tho

Have a brill time at the pics and full review please

HollyBerrie · 31/12/2007 08:55

Cheeky lot!
If I could find a nice pair of jeans then that is what I would wear but I despair of this ever happening. I always have a gaping bit at the back which my Mum used to say was a hollow back but I suspect is just a big bum.

oggsfrog · 31/12/2007 09:19

Ha! Henceforth I do not have an arse the size of a small country but a hollow back. That sounds much better .

Off to brave the shops today... I need a pressie for my newly born niece (poor love was a few weeks prem and is in an incubator - she's jaundiced and needs phototherapy too).

How will we all know each other? Where will we meet seeing as I don't even know what time I'll actually arrive .

HollyBerrie · 31/12/2007 09:37

Don't think we should make arrangements to meet on here. Let's all wear a piece of steak and an onion on our lapel
Sorry to hear about your niece poor little love.

oggsfrog · 31/12/2007 09:56

Good thinking oh wise one

Lyra, how was The Golden Compass?

Just been thinking about how we've not seen Zeb for ages 'cos she can't get on here when she's not at work....then I had a brainwave and thought I know, I'll email her...
durr...

Off to brave the shops...

HollyBerrie · 31/12/2007 10:03

Oggs, hope it's not too bad...you are all very brave! Lyra did Ikea yesterday

I might mosey on to Tesco later

LyraSilvertinsel · 31/12/2007 13:42

Ikea was hell. It shuts at 5 on a Sunday and everybody headed to the tills at the same time. And I found all the pieces of the thing I wanted to buy except one crucial piece, so I've got to go back.
The film was excellent though. It's a couple of years since I read the books so I didn't sit there thinking 'that's not how it was in the book, they missed that bit out'. Well, only a little bit

OP posts:
HollyBerrie · 31/12/2007 15:32

I can hardly remember the books at all.
Sorry ikea was awful.

oggsfrog · 31/12/2007 18:00

note to self... never, do not ever go shopping on New Year's Eve not ever again .

It was pandemonium.

The centre of town was bad enough, but by the time I got to Asda at about 2pm, I was half expecting to bump into old men with sandwich boards proclaiming "THE END IS NIGH", or "BEHOLD THE APOCALYPSE".

It was absolutely heaving. The shelves were empty... no potatoes at all, no green veg, no fresh bread apart from a reuced french stick broken into three pieces (managed to sneak under somebody's arm to nab this, ha!),hardly any meat, half of the wine shelves were empty and the only fish left on the fresh fish counter was whiting (and very sorry it looked too)

Even dd was reduced to muttering in shock and amazement "aren't they silly, the shops are only closed for 2 days!"

Never, not ever again.

HollyBerrie · 31/12/2007 18:18

Tee hee hee Oggs, I've missed your comedy posts!

Baked beans and Iron Bru it is then!

Whatever you all do this evening, have a lovely last night of 2007.

LyraSilvertinsel · 31/12/2007 18:54

People can be a bit nutty when it comes to stocking up for just a couple of days. Are they expecting to starve? The shops aren't even closed down here. Sainsbury's is open as usual and I expect the Co-op is too.
