I suspect that your average Invernessian is not going to be contributing £150 each (trying desparately not to racially stereotype the Scots..!)

The Glasshouse is my favorite restaurant (if someone else is paying), Kew Grill is nice too.

I'm too mean to go to The Glasshouse but have heard its fantastic

Kewcumber · 03/09/2007 16:26

I only go when my sister is paying

glasshouse is fab but, when it's been busy, have been a bit elbow-to-elbow with another table which i hate..

one evening many moons agao on way to glasshouse, i knew dh had my engagement ring in his pocket (yes, yes, or was he just pleased to see me. boom. boom) planning to present it to me with a flourish at the table..

well, not wanting an audience for this tender moment, told dh to hand me over ring on way. tutting that i had no sense of occasion, he reluctantly shoved it on my finger on the street.

last of the great romantics, that's me..

stepfordwife · 03/09/2007 16:51

2cute - how dreadful for your cousin. she's probbaly hiding out a mate's house?

sushi - £100 sounds a lot to me, too. i think your idea of money and small gift is nice - always nice to have something to open.

sfxmum · 03/09/2007 17:33

2cute sorry I missed that on first read, it must be awful for your cousin

steppie - I would have been mortified by public presentation of ring.

my 'engagement' was odd, we had been living together for 6yrs when I got pregnant and dh mumbled something about getting married to which I said 'don't be silly'

then I lost the baby and was in the recovery ward after D&C when I told him 'I think I would like that party after all'

somehow he knew what I was on about, even if I blamed the drugs

SJ99 · 03/09/2007 19:08

Well good news, I managed to get a table for Thurs night so now I'm really excited

Even though I do love DS to bits, I'm looking forward to a night out that's just the two of us - long overdue. We might as well treat ourselves especially as the babysitting's free

ComeOVeneer · 03/09/2007 21:15

Hi everyone, I'M BACK. We are tired, travel weary, jet lagged, but tanned, relaxed and have had a fab holiday. Am off to (ry) and catch up with what has been going on fot the past 2.5 weeks. Any momentous news, arrangements for meet-ups, Nanou's leaving do etc etc? Hope everyone is doing well.

SushiMummy · 03/09/2007 21:32

SJ, Have a lovely time on Thursday! The portions are quite generous so no snacking beforehand!

Many thanks for all the advice, wise ladies! Think I'll go for British way, when in Rome...

The tube strike started early! It's supposed to start at 6pm but there was no Richmond service at 4pm!!! Took me ages to get to nursery! Am fuming.

SushiMummy · 03/09/2007 21:33

Welcome back CoV. Sounds like you had a lovely time.

rosmerta · 03/09/2007 21:34

Aww Sushi, that's really bad, am for you!

COV - welcome back, glad you had a nice time!

Sj - I won't be able to meet tomorrow am after all, but hopefully see you in the afternoon at Syon Park? Btw, you can catch the 267 from yours to the park, wasn't sure if you knew that or not.

ComeOVeneer · 03/09/2007 21:40

Was lovey Sushi. We had a great house with wooden steps down to the beach at Cape Cod,and the children had so much fun, however the house was rather basic (although perfectly functional and clean) but alls were paper thin (between us and IL's, not a good thing - I won't go any further). Plus there was only one bathroom.

The wedding was a blast although rather bizarre (lasting 3 days from rehersal dinner to post wedding brunch and serious orchestrated with all the wedding organisers/photographers etc all wearing ear pieces to keep in touch like they were members of the FBI etc). DS has only slept 7 hours inthe last 3 nights and dd is supposed to be back at school tomorrow morning. It is currently 4.40pm for me but I have no idea what day it is !!!

rosmerta · 03/09/2007 21:49

Cov at wedding, I thought wedding planners and earpieces were just in films, didn't think anyone actually did that

ComeOVeneer · 03/09/2007 21:52

It was gloss and polish to the utmost. As the sister of the groomsaid (she is dh's cousin) it was a typical preepy graduate american wedding (all paid for (in the 10's of thousands) by the brides parents)... 12 brides maids 10 ushers, 2 best men 4 flower girls, 2 page boys, ring bearer etc etc, 5 course dinner (plus 4 course rehersal dinner the day before and post wedding brunch the day after- all for 200+ people)

SJ99 · 04/09/2007 09:09

Zikes at wedding Glad you had a good holiday Cov.

No worries Ros I will take DS to song group this morning anyway as he does love his tunes. Thanks for letting me know about bus, I do have car today anyway so hopefully see you all later if DS wakes up at reasonable time. He has been on sleepathon the past 2wks and I had to wake him at 4pm yesterday frm his nap. He then proceeded to sleep 7pm-7.30am .

SushiMummy · 04/09/2007 09:18

Morning all. Phew, just got in. Took me almost two hours to get to work this morning.

LOL, steppie and sfx. Unromantic type, aren't u?

CoV, at the wedding! Somehow, I'd prefer good old British ones, myself. Absolutely adore all these funny dancing routines by drunken middle age people...

sfxmum · 04/09/2007 09:20

good morning all

cov welcome back glad you had a good holiday very at house by the water, must say the wedding gave me the giggles

not sure if I will manage to meet up today, usually we are out much earlier then back home by 4 or so.
also it must be the republican in me who quite resents parting with money so that His Grace can keep his house

must get in gear and make sure I book some classes for dd, it is probably too late for this term!

hope you are all well

sfxmum · 04/09/2007 09:23

oh yes the strike hope you have better luck on the way back, it is pure hell. now there is something I don't miss

Kewcumber · 04/09/2007 09:36

Sushi - don;t know if its too far for you but I went overground silverlink Kew-HIgnbury and Islington then overground to Moorgate from there and walked from Moorgate. took me 1.5 hrs so depending how far you are from moorgate it may be a better option?

OP posts:
rosmerta · 04/09/2007 09:41

sfx, do you have to book for boogie tots or can you just turn up?

Will try and make this afternoon but have drs at 4.30 so just depends on when ds wakes up really.

sfxmum · 04/09/2007 09:43

ros - no boogie tots is just turn up(should be back next week) but I wanted to book Tumble tots or similar and also some swimming lessons too so we have a couple of booked activities per week

SushiMummy · 04/09/2007 09:50

QC, I did think about the option but went to Richmond instead. Big mistake! Loooong queue for the bus at Waterloo then the bus got stuck in traffic! Might try your idea tomorrow. Thanks!!

Paddlechick666 · 04/09/2007 09:57

aha, the benefits of working from home! altho i do have to go to the office on Thursday but overground to waterloo then a few mins walk to office so am hoping it's not too bad!

sfx, the tropical house entry fee is for the upkeep of the animals and fish etc. altho i'm sure they have to pay some sort of ground rent....

Paddlechick666 · 04/09/2007 10:11

just to add to the car stories, it cost me £295 to get mine serviced and mot'd yesterday and £275 to insure it.

at least i'm legal now tho!
