WEST LONDONTHREAD - JULY/AUG 2007 (when we finally get a summer?)

Just thought I would get this up and running before the old one is full.

I did think about it at 8.30 am this morning as we were discussing what to do in the absence of said radiator but can't face delay of ripping up and redoing all the floor. I think THE OTHER SOURCES OF HEAT WILL SUFFICE (oops). If not I beleive we can put in some electrical heating in the plinths at the base of the cupboards.

natural cafe Well, it's 1.99 for a small latte so I'd say it's average? Kids meal for 3.45 doesn't sound particulary expensive imo. They have a kids corner with toys, books and DVD to watch.

StarryStarryNight · 02/08/2007 14:51

I hate the Natural Cafe with a vengance, there is one in Putney. Horribly over priced, the kids juices (and all juices actually) are full of artificial sweeteners and colouring, they stack fruity gooey bars next to the tills so your kids will SCREAM to get one, rather than the "healthy" lunch or snack you try to get them.

Speaking of jumping on the organic and ecologically friendly bandwagon IN NAME only....

But dont let me put you off, judge for yourself....

sorry needed to vent.

Hi, I hope you are all well (and your kitchen not causing too much problems COV)

Kewcumber · 02/08/2007 14:58

that a little more expensive than M&S but not much. Do they really not have plain juice like apple?

I wouldn't generally plan to lunch there though just coffee/juice - would pay a premium for somewhere that kept DS occupied whilst I drank a coffee every now and again!

Bloody hell its just started raining here...

ComeOVeneer · 02/08/2007 15:03

Please keep the rain over you KC, we have the fridge/freezer from the old kitchen sitting on the drive (am going to put it in the garage as spare storage once there is room (currently full of bits of the new kitchen) and I'm not sure rain water will be very good for it.

SushiMummy · 02/08/2007 15:08

Well, we had freshly squeezed orange juice and DS had 100% apple juice (well I thought it was..) in a carton. As long as we can have 15 minutes of peace and quiet that's good enough for us.

Paddlechick666 · 02/08/2007 15:09

hellooooo!

just poppin in quickly - mental at work and mental on the mortgage front too.

looks like other MN friend's dp has got me a deal with Abbey. app approved in principle so forms all going in today

haven't heard from my buyer about survey tho and am now bricking it over the tenents doing a bunk!

anyways, talking of challening dc, mine has been a proper little madam this week! in her defence she's 3 (2 canines) teeth coming. she's had a houseful of foreigners who keep coming and going and she's on her 2nd weekend in a row to Grandma's.

Having said that, by all accounts she's being a little angel up there - typical.

I am missing her hugely. Really feel like I've barely seen her this last week or so

dhh is still being a dickhead......

I'm going to a wedding on Saturday and I'm wearing a dress so it better not bloody rain.

Picking up dd on Sunday so 'fraid won't be able to admire your steps this weekend QC.

ps: mellow, yes I did get your email. sorry not to have responded but been a bit distracted. thanks for the thought but all monies diverted into lumbering myself with huge and scary debt which will look and feel like a home for me and dd!

hope everyone's well otherwise and to see y'all soon.

lemonaid · 02/08/2007 16:07

How do you know they use artificial sweeteners and colours?

mellow2 · 02/08/2007 16:55

PC,
I was going to give them to you. Sorry if that wasn't clear in the email. But I will flog them otherwise.

Sushi,
Don't worry. I didn't think you were being smug. I am waking up the realisation of how much I would like to have a life outside of being a mom.

Starry,
Thanks for the tip. Dd only had freshly squeezed juice from the Natural Cafe in Chiswick. I didn't know they had any other kind.

StarryStarryNight · 02/08/2007 17:03

Re Natural Cafe, in the Putney one, they only did carton juices, they looked all fresh and healthy on the packaging, until you read on the back. They did not do freshly pressed juices, at least not then.

sfxmum · 02/08/2007 17:15

hi all despite the occasional rain, i really enjoyed kew today.
nice to catch up with mellow and watch dd in the role of reluctant big sister to mini mellow, very funny.

i haven't been to the natural cafe yet bit suspicious of the natural label.

has anyone been to the french place next door?
dh keeps saying we should go there for dinner or sunday lunch with dd.

mellow2 · 02/08/2007 17:24

PC,
Weather forecast for Saturday looks good. According to weather com, it's going to a high of 26 degrees so you should be okay.

mellow2 · 02/08/2007 17:28

Yes, it was good to catch up, sfx. Anyway, dd was happy enough playing with mini sfx.

SushiMummy · 02/08/2007 17:59

sfx, ma cuisine (sp?) I think it's called. We went there a few weeks ago with DS for Sunday lunch. They have kids menu and the portion was huge. Food is good but service is always slow.

sfxmum · 02/08/2007 18:23

thanks sushi, that sounds like dh's kind of place must try it soon

sfxmum · 02/08/2007 18:50

mellow - just checked and D&T do 'one small step' and the first haircut thing is £16.

foxcub · 02/08/2007 19:04

very of those of you who get to go to french and natural cafes etc or indeed get to go out anywhere....

Kew - My wardrobe has had two coats of paint and needs one more - scheduled for tomorrow morning, before I can come out and play.

I may be up for Kew tomorrow arvo if anyone is out and about???????

Sad I missed Kew today with sfx and mellow

Kids are climbing the walls....

Bubble99 · 02/08/2007 19:09

Foxie. Without wishing to sound like a weirdy stalker.

I've worked out that I know you in RL.

What's the protocol here?

sfxmum · 02/08/2007 19:53

foxie aren't paint fumes supposed to knocked them out? or is it making them climb walls

rosmerta · 02/08/2007 20:18

Evening all, ds is still chatting & singing away in his cot. He knows dh is out tonight, whereas when he's home, ds is out like a light!

Mellow - I haven't been on today so didn't see your message about SP, sorry. Btw, the story time at the library is still going on through the summer & it wasn't that busy today

Can't meet up tomorrow, as much as I'd like to, ds at nursery in the morning & then we're off swimming in the afternoon.

Anyone around next week?

foxcub · 02/08/2007 20:35

Hi Bubble - if you are who I think you are, its lovely to see you! [waves]

Did we meet about two Sundays ago at a pub/playground birthday party?

I think we just need to make sure we don't bitch about anyone we both know!

...or slag off each other's choice of school LOL!!

I knew I'd bump into a RL person eventually and you are the first one! At least I have an excuse to keep in contact with you now anyway 'Specially as I am missing my Italian friend

Actually I got into trouble the other week by joking about a rather eccentric name someone had chosen for their child and it turned out they were related to someone on the very same thread.

Very

You seem very popular on here so am [impressed]

Bubble99 · 02/08/2007 20:44

Foxcub.

Yes, that's me. And I'm missing our friend, too. Six years is a long time and they went through so much here, didn't they?

foxcub · 02/08/2007 21:02

Bubble - our friend had becaome so much a part of my life I have a big gap left there now.

I am so pleased they had their little DD though after all the waiting I think E still feels its a miracle evry time she looks at her DD

When did you join MN (need to have a nose on your profile )?

Bubble99 · 02/08/2007 21:16

October 2004. I was pg with twins (due Feb 2005) and was looking for some 'multiples' advice. After being blinded by 'only 2 weeks till my daughter's ballet exams' type tickers on some USA sites, I found mnet.

Sadly and criminally (proved out of court ) Kingston hospital managed to kill my DT2 during an understaffed and horribly mismanaged labour. We are very lucky to have DT1 (DS3) as his APGAR was 3 and it was touch and go initially.

Aaaaanyway. That's how I found mnet and I've been here ever since. It is so addictive, isn't it?

I had so much support from mnetters before and after DT2 died. And, as I don't have any sisters, they have been a lifeline for all kinds of things

So.

How did you find mnet?

foxcub · 02/08/2007 21:40

E told me about your son and I am so sorry and for you and him. Did you take any legal action against them? I can't even imagine what you must have been through :

I didn't realise you were on MN although I met you when DS1 was errr - 2 ! ???? (I remember going to collect him and smelling the fantastic food you had cooked)

I only found MN last year after reading the news reports about "she who must not be named". Kind of it took me so long to find it!

IKWYM about family - mine all live far away, apart from my Dad that is, who is mucho crappo to the DCs - so MN is almost like an adopted family sometimes. When I had DS2 in March my dad was supposed to look after the DCs when I went into hospital, but let me down at the 11th hour - the west London posse started a "Foxie's back up crew" thread and all piled in to help. In the end my sister came over but it helped so much to know there were friendly faces out there who were only a phone call away
