MrsWho · 29/06/2007 22:38

divastrop · 30/06/2007 21:32

i was glad we could watch from the front room-what a wash out!

ive told them we may go to walney carnival...

MrsWho · 01/07/2007 08:19

Which end is your xh from ? you may be able to watch from the other end? I like the start of it the best and loads of room to sit on O rd but its not really near the field if you wanted to go there

I'm proud to say I've never seen any of the carnivals here in 5 years - except for the piccies in the paper.

It's not my sort of thing at all!

MrsWho · 01/07/2007 09:26

Kids danced for a couple of years but I din't really like that and am not struck on watching them but quite like being in with work (U)and then W with kids dressed up as we know everyone!

divastrop · 01/07/2007 12:09

i dont like the 'dance' schools.the kids like watching it as they get given sweets.

my xp doesnt live there anymore but his family are in VT.where do they have the fair etc?do you get loads of people drinking etc like at B?

roisin · 01/07/2007 17:18

I can't stand the dance schools, especially the ones that dress the 6 yr-olds up like hookers.

A couple of my colleagues at work are heavily involved with dance schools so we get a postmortem every Monday morning, which groups won which competitions I've been practising my bored expression, but they've got very thick skin.
They take part too, and dress up in these oufits - hotpants and so on; They're in late 30s+ = look pretty ridiculous IMO!

We used to have a 'village carnival' where we lived before, and everyone dressed up for the parade - the playschool, the primary school, the OAP club, the playgroup, the brownies, etc. etc. It was a fantastic atmosphere.

divastrop · 01/07/2007 17:28

i cant stand them for similar reasons,i hate seeing 3 year olds with make-up plastered all over their faces.my dd1 went to one of the 'dance schools' for a few weeks, but i took her out when i saw what it was like.nothing they did in any way resembled 'proper' tap/ballet etc, they didnt even warm up beforehand.

is it me or do those places only exist in this town?i went to tap dancing for a couple of weeks when i was little, but it was nothing like that, and i used to do modern and jazz dancing at a stage school when i was in my teens.we had to warm up for about half hour before we did any dancing, and the teachers were actually qualified proffesionals.

ha,you can tell ive been wanting to rant about dance schools for a few years now,its just that everybody i know here thinks they're great!

roisin · 01/07/2007 17:40

We certainly have more than our fair share of them that's for sure.

If the kids at school spent 10% of the time and money they spend on dancing into their academic work they could achieve wonders!

WedgiesMum · 03/07/2007 20:33

Hi all!

Do you know there is nothing that has changed much about those dancing schools for years (I can remember them in the carnivals from nearly 40 years ago )? Does that date me??? And I can honestly say I've not seen anything like it anywhere else I've lived......

I'll keep an eye on this to see if it is a date when I'm around visiting Mum as would love to see you all again.

roisin · 04/07/2007 16:10

did you used to be a dancinggirl Wedgiesmum?!

babyblue2 · 04/07/2007 20:24

Hi, i'm in the lakes and would be interested. Has anyone got a date/place in mind? We're away til 3rd August though. Have got 2 dds, aged 4 and 2.

roisin · 04/07/2007 20:31

I'm away two weeks out of the next three.

Can we have a volunteer to organise this/make it happen?! I nominate MrsWho.

babyblue2 · 04/07/2007 20:51

I agree with the nomination of MrsWho. Are most in South Lakes as suggested? I'm not but would travel if necessary. If there are a few from different areas, could somewhere in between, i.e. Penrith or Kendal be possibilites for a meet up?

Cappuccino · 04/07/2007 20:53

chatee are you the woman I'm meant to be cating about penpals (did forget who it was)

Cappuccino · 04/07/2007 20:53

kendal

roisin · 04/07/2007 22:14

How about the maize maze at Sedgwick nr Kendal.

We went last year, and there's plenty to do there - farm animals, karts, trampolines, soft play area for littlies, etc., as well as the maze itself. You can even camp if you want to!

All we need is a date with some guaranteed good weather ...?!

Adults £4.75, children £3.75, U3s free, family ticket £16

MamaG · 04/07/2007 22:16
babyblue2 · 05/07/2007 14:08

I think that place looks fun, I can do any date from 3rd August. The weather though is another thing.... MrsWho, you started this thread, are you about?

MrsWho · 05/07/2007 19:31

Hi I'm back, have been touring Coniston Lake in kayaks with a group of my students doing Duke of Ed awards! Who pinched the nice weather then?

I'll go with the Maize Maze went a couple of years ago and couldn't do it so hope I get someone with me than can!

When aren't people available ?

The only full week we can't do is the 5th week(can't remember the dates) but there are odd bits of the others too

OP posts:
roisin · 05/07/2007 19:36

We can only do Week 2: 30 July - 5 August.

MrsWho · 05/07/2007 19:41

Can everyone do that week?

OP posts:
roisin · 05/07/2007 19:59

We can

babyblue2 · 05/07/2007 20:33

We could only do 4th and 5th of that week, defo nothing else in Portugal you see, but if thats what the majority goes with then thats fine.
