Anyone fancy a south-west London mini-meet up?

I feel a bit shy asking this, but reading various postings there appear to be a few mumsnetters in my area - south-west London/Surrey/Middx and I wondered if any of you fancied meeting up? I was thinking of a small group, maybe a dinner/drinks in Richmond or Putney one evening. Or would anyone prefer a daytime thing with our children in a park? If anyone's interested, it would be good to do it over the next few weeks. If no-one wants to come out and play I'll have to disappear and change my mumsnet nickname!

So far we seem to be looking at Sat 20 July or Sat 27 July. Any more can's or cant's?
Bells2 of course you can come!

Thanks Fionn! I can't do Sat 20th but could do the 27th.

Fionn · 20/06/2002 16:17

Can everyone do Sat 27 July?

sounds good to me!

This is becoming a major meet-up. It's the same day as the Northern one - maybe we should have a video link!

I can make 27th July...Putney Bridge lovely but v v v expensive. Don't know Ma Goa as don't eat much Indian food but anywhere that serves drink will be fine by me!

SofiaAmes · 20/06/2002 23:13

27th would be great for me too, but can we pick someplace that isn't too expensive. It makes for a more relaxed atmosphere for all and then I won't mind so much pitching in for everyone else's alchol as i'm not really a drinker.

Willow2 · 21/06/2002 10:37

All those dates seem ok - Canyon in Richmond is good, but bloody expensive so don't think it's right for this one. Have never been able to get out of there for less than £100+ for two. Hence don't go that often!! Don't mind Richmond or Putney - but there is also a very nice old school Italian in East Sheen that isn't too expensive and a new gastro pub type place has opened in Mortlake just round corner from station that I've heard good reports about. Don Fernandos in Richmond is a great tapas bar and good fun too. Ma Goa is good - Lal Bagh again in East Sheen is very good and not expensive at all. (Makes it sound like I spend my life eating out - i wish) Agree with BossyKate that a bar area would be a good idea for smokers - though hopefully I'll have got back on wagon by then.

Pamina, was it La Mancha? That's on Putney High Dtreet. I lived there 10 years ago but haven't eaten out in Putney since. Ma Goa sounds good, but is it all very spicy? I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to hot food - do they do milder stuff as well? Wherever we go we'll have to check for a non-smoking section for SofiaAmes (fairly unlikely in the UK as I'm sure you're aware!) and a smoking bit for the smokers! Agree on nothing too expensive. Went to Putney Bridge once for a Xmas meal. Very nice, but dp said it was too expensive for him to enjoy the meal properly! Didn't bother me though. Canyon also a bit pricey for this, I agree. Chiswick is more difficult to get to, and probably East Sheen too. At least Putney has the train and tube. What does everyone think?

Tapas sounds great - very sociable way of eating. How did they organise things at the last meet-up bill-wise? Don't want non-drinkers/drivers stuck with big alcohol bills.

Willow2 · 21/06/2002 21:31

ks - think the italian is called Mamma Mia's or something equally naff - but it's nice in an "old school" way - it's run by the family who run several of the italian cafe's and one of the deli's in Sheen. As for Sheen being difficult to get to Fionn, it's on a load of bus routes and Mortlake station is two minutes walk - so not that bad. Don't care where we go though!

I don't do public transport in london and am not really a drinker, so will be driving. I am happy to pick up as many ladies as will fit in my car and are more or less on the way between nw10 and where ever we are going. Fionn, don't worry too much about the non-smoking section as I do realize they are almost non-existant in the uk. As long the people in our party are happy to take their cigarettes outside or down the other end of the table I'll be ok. (i'm not shy about complaining )

Fionn · 21/06/2002 22:26

Willow2 - the Italian in East Sheen sounds good but I'd have to get a train to Clapham Junction then another one out again as I'm on a different branch so it would actually take me ages to get to! And buses aren't very reliable! I suggested Putney and Richmond as they seem easier for most people (including me!) to get to. There seems to be a slight preference for Putney.
As a mattet of interest, how many of you know each other from previous meet-ups?

Willow2- just worked out I could get a bus to Richmond then a train to Mortlake, so it's a possibility!
Pamina - wasn't worried about everyone knowing each other except me, just curious! Would like a chance to chat to everyone - was there any place swapping at the last one?

seems as though sat 27th is emerging as the consensus. curses! can't make that day as dh is going to a stag do.

fionn - yes everyone did move around and mingle at the last do.

well done for organising this - personally, i feel rather queasy at taking something like this on, although really keen on the idea!

maybe we will meet at another meet up

Willow2 · 22/06/2002 23:30

Fionn- really don't mind where we meet, just thought you might want to know that E.Sheen is easier to access than it seems!

Java · 23/06/2002 12:11

Oh the nostalgia - I used to live in Twickenham BC - before children, and loved going to Don Fernandos. Glad to hear that it's still there - a great place for a good night out.
