Anyone fancy a south-west London mini-meet up?

I feel a bit shy asking this, but reading various postings there appear to be a few mumsnetters in my area - south-west London/Surrey/Middx and I wondered if any of you fancied meeting up? I was thinking of a small group, maybe a dinner/drinks in Richmond or Putney one evening. Or would anyone prefer a daytime thing with our children in a park? If anyone's interested, it would be good to do it over the next few weeks. If no-one wants to come out and play I'll have to disappear and change my mumsnet nickname!

Can I come too? Based in Wimbledon, but know most of the areas mentioned.

Is it the 27thJuly? Would be best for me as we're away the week before,

Also, I'm quite new here. Are there a lot of people who already know each other? Newcomers allowed..

Fionn · 23/06/2002 16:02

Clucks - yes, anyone can come! And it is 27th July. I don't know anyone at all, am comparatively new to Mumsnet and just felt after spending a lot of time on the site recently that it would be fun to meet some new people. We're still discussing venues as you can see. Any ideas? Putney is looking most likely.

Bossykate - shame you can't make it. I'm always up for going out so I'm sure there'll be another opportunity soon!

You lot sound like just the people who can advise me! Need to locate a suitable Mothercare.

Dh possible off to London this week to a meeting in Heathrow that should finish around 4pm and his flight leaves about 9pm. Seriously thinking of getting the Mothercare double 3 wheeler so need a store that stocks buggies up to an hour away from Heathrow. Paddington Express and taxis are valid modes of transport.

Any thoughts or suggestions. Please!

Thanks.

MalmoMum
As mentioned on the Kew Village shopping complex thread, there is a Mothercare World there. It would be possible to take a taxi there from Heathrow, or Piccadilly & District lines (change at Hammersmith) to Kew Gardens, though that would be more fiddly. The District line runs from Paddington too but would take ages that way round. There's also a bus service from Richmond.
However, it would be worth checking to see what they have in stock.

The Mothercare at Kew is: (0) 208 878 3758

Lots of times I've been to Mothercare, any branch, only to find they don't have what I want.in stock

WideWebWitch · 24/06/2002 11:17

Malcomum there's a Mothercare in Ealing Broadway which is probably 1/2 to 3/4 an hour by cab from Heathrow, or less by tube if you take the Piccadilly line to South Ealing (20 mins ish) and then either walk 10 minutes to Ealing Broadway (turn left out of the station, and keep walking til you get there) or get a no 65 bus (right outside the station) to Ealing Broadway. It's not a big Mothercare but it does sell buggies. You could ring first and see if they've got the one you want.

Janus · 24/06/2002 12:30

There is still a Mothercare World at Marble Arch, I would suggest going by tube as a taxi around this time of day would take ages. As mentioned, do check stock before sending your husband off!! Mothercare will hold something if you ring them no more than 24 hours before your husband is going, you pay over the phone and then he can just collect it, they will only do a max of 24 hours in advance though. Another much simplier idea is why not just buy it off their website? I have bought stuff from them before and it always arrives quite quickly and had no trouble. Would be a whole lot easier. If you live overseas, sorry!

soothepoo · 24/06/2002 14:04

Mothercare do deliver overseas, but only on 'selected items' - don't know if buggies would be in this category.

MalmoMum · 24/06/2002 14:21

Thanks for all your suggestions, we are abroad so they won't deliver. And dh is over on a businees trip which is easier than trying to get my mother or one his colleagues cart it back.

Thanks for the tips on the ordering service, I'm going to try and call now to see what they have in stock. The Marble Arch branch sounds like the one that dh is happiest to go to. We didn't really notice things like Mothercare when we lived in London!

By the way, if anyone has any direct or indirect experience of the double buggy , I would love to know. I'll revive the thread I started on Friday, I presume a lot of the UK was a little low that day.

Thanks again, it's great to know what the options are.

Willow2 · 25/06/2002 10:17

Clucks - have been a mumsnetter for over a year now but have never met anyone - so you and I will be in the same boat! So don't worry - come along.

ks - just the best thai food for miles - only downside is you can't book and have to queue up. Fab food though and v cheap. Alternatively, try Cafe 209 Munster Road, Fulham - again great food, bring your own booze and run by a complete nutter called joy who is all the entertainment you'll need.

SofiaAmes · 25/06/2002 23:12

cafe209 sounds great! It's always way cheaper when you bring your own booze and you can get so much more creative.
Malmomum, how old are the 2 children you are putting in the double buggy. Everyone I know seems to have a buggyboard for their toddler instead of a double buggy...much cheaper and smaller.

Willow2 · 26/06/2002 11:12

Ok all you locals - help wanted that has nothing to do with the 27th! Have big black tie do to go to on Saturday - really not my scene at all, but have cobbled together an outfit of sorts that I hope won't let me down (particularly the support knickers!). However, have just looked down at my hands and I look as though Alan Titchmarsh has been grafted on at the elbow. Does anyone know of a fab manicurist in the area? Even better a mobile one? I haven't a clue about these things. Ideally someone who can whack on fake tips (that's tips with a p!) Help asap!!!

Fionn · 02/07/2002 14:52

TO Eating Guide recommends Ma Goa and an Italian -is it Enoteca? in Putney. Sorry, left guide in other room. And La Mancha, though that has a guitarist so might be a bit noisy if we want to chat. Ma Goa apparently has a separate room for parties. Do we want that or are there too few of us? I think it was 13 at last count. I'm fine with Mortlake too, depends on the people coming from Wimbledon etc where a tube station would presumably be easier Check the SW London manicurist thread for discussion on Tapestry in Mortlake!

As ds is in traction for now we will need the buggy more than ever. Thanks for the travel suggestions. Dh got the buggy home quite easily.

Looks like ds will be in traction for a month with his broken leg, he will have to go through the process of learning to walk again around the time when the new baby is born. So it will be very useful to move around with the 2 of them.

Fionn · 09/07/2002 18:48

It's only 2 1/2 weeks away, we should probably think about booking a table somewhere!....

I think Putney will be easiest for most people, so I'll take an executive discussion and say yes unless there are any real objections!

OP posts:
Fionn · 11/07/2002 13:12

I'm deafened by the response...! I'm quite happy to pick somewhere but haven't been to Putney for years. How many votes for Ma Goa?

bells2 · 11/07/2002 14:29

Ma Goa sounds good to me.
