Northern Mumsnet Meet-up

Rhubarb · 27/05/2002 14:16

Anyone want to come to a Mumsnet meet up here in the North? I don't want it to be exclusively for Northerners though, so if any of you can make it, please post your ideas here.

I'm relying on public transport so I would prefer to meet somewhere that isn't too hard to get to, like Manchester, which might also be good middle ground for those who live further afield. But if any of you know of anywhere better please tell me.
I'm also assuming that a Saturday is ok.

If anyone is interested please post your names here and then when we have a suitable number of people I will give out my email and we can make proper arrangments.

Ferrets are optional!

OK - no-one has said that they object to Chinese so shall we just go to somewhere in Chinatown?

leander · 01/07/2002 22:47

ok by me

Rhubarb · 02/07/2002 14:37

Yup sounds fine but we might want to check that they do an English menu so those who don't care for Chinese can at least have a steak if they want to.

Kanesmum · 02/07/2002 19:26

Chinese suits me.

Jendy · 08/07/2002 17:20

Not sure if I'm too late to join in fairly nwe to site, but I also live in Liverpool. Can someone let me know when and where? Ta

leander · 08/07/2002 18:17

Jendy
the meet is in Manchester ithink its going to be chinese noone has named a resturant yet its the last sat in july which is the 27th i think Rhubarb and Tinker are organising it.
Im coming from Liverpool so if you decide to go maybe we could travel together

Rhubarb · 09/07/2002 14:46

Tinker, could you get in touch so we can book a restaurant? I could do with some recommendations and then I would be happy to do all the organising.

So far the names I have got are:
Coxy, Janh, Berries, Cherry, Tinker, Kanesmum, Leander, Empress and Jendy.
The maybes (please get in touch) are:
Rosy, SueW and AllyWB
So please can you all post again and either confirm or deny that you are coming!

Perhaps if we meet in the afternoon it might be easier for those who are travelling, say for late lunch? So please also confirm that this is ok. If anyone needs to email me directly I am on [email protected]

Errr, can people please tell me if they can come or not? Pretty please? With cherries on top?

Woo Sang (one of Tinker's recommendations) sounds good so far. It is in Chinatown on George Street and is famed as one of Chinatown's originals. They have an 'All you can Eat' buffet at Sat/Sun lunchtimes, but I don't know what time until. I don't know about prices, but as Tinker has eaten there perhaps she can let us know. Or I can phone for a sample menu.

So if everyone is happy with that I shall book it, but I do need numbers please, so either post one here or send me an email telling me if you can come or not. My email is further down in my postings. Everyone happy with late lunch? About 2ish?

Rhubarb, checked tonight and I can come!!! I've sent you an email so hope everyone else can manage now. I can't not take up the opportunity of a childfree Saturday!!!

Kanesmum · 18/07/2002 20:56

Rhubarb,
Sorry I haven't been in touch sooner but my pc had broken and have just got it fixed. Unfortunately I can't come as I am going up North for a bridesmaid dress fitting. Brother is getting married in Sept. Hope you have a nice time anyway.

Rhubarb · 18/07/2002 22:33

Oooh, right that's 5 so far! Tinker, Janh, Coxy, myself, and Empress - aren't there any more out there who want to come? As Tinker mentioned in her email to me, we will have to book soon as the Commonwealth games start that weekend, so Manchester could be busy. I will phone the restaurant late on Saturday to book, that gives us 2 days. Those who said they were coming earlier but have not been in touch since I have not counted as coming.

So if there is only 5 of us - I'm sure we'll have a great time anyway! Just think of the possible debates we can have on God, Gina Ford, smacking.... you guys just don't know what you're missing!

ONLY ONE MORE DAY TO TELL ME IF YOU ARE COMING OR NOT!

OP posts:
Jendy · 19/07/2002 15:59

Sorry had problems with my pc couldn't get logged on. I don't really know that many people with young babies and really wish I could come but something(s) have come up and I can't come now. It looks as if it's been a bit of a hassle organising this but if you ever organise another one I'd love to go along. Have a smashing time.

cherry · 20/07/2002 20:05

I am really really sorry i haven't been around for a while, had serious pc problems... well it was my isp, what a nightmare!! Anyway all sorted now.... Rhubarb, have you already booked?

Rhubarb · 21/07/2002 10:21

Nope not yet, so you are welcome to come Cherry. I will book today once my humungous hangover has passed. I got a little bit tipsy last night and phoned a few friends, left a few messages on their answermachines, now they will probably never talk to me again. Oh dear.

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 22/07/2002 12:19

Right, here is the plan. I have booked Woo Sang on George Street in Chinatown for 3pm - so late lunch early dinner. I've booked for 6, that's Coxy, me, Tinker, Janh, Empress and Cherry. It wasn't a problem to book so if anyone else wants to come I don't think it will be a problem.

What I thought is that we could all meet at a pub at about 2pm and then go to the restaurant together, less pressure that way! So what about Mr Thomas's Chop House on Cross Street? It's about halfway between the two stations. I will check that it is still open these days. Can you all just confirm then that you can still make it? I'd hate to be stood there on my own!

OP posts:
CAM · 22/07/2002 17:20

Rhubarb
That did make me laugh about your tipsy ansafone messages!! Good job you will make some new friends on Saturday. Hope you all have a great time.

Tinker · 22/07/2002 21:26

Sounds fine to me Rhubarb. But how will we know each other in the pub - should we specify a certain place etc? It is still open as far as I know and good choice, nice pub.

AllyWB · 22/07/2002 22:07

Sorry, I've not been in touch, what with a fortnights holiday, being ill and working not to mention 9 week old baby. Anyway, after all that I really sorry but I won't be able to make it anyway, I've got to work. Hope you have a fantastic time, will be thinking of you.
