Northern Mumsnet Meet-up

Rhubarb · 27/05/2002 14:16

Anyone want to come to a Mumsnet meet up here in the North? I don't want it to be exclusively for Northerners though, so if any of you can make it, please post your ideas here.

I'm relying on public transport so I would prefer to meet somewhere that isn't too hard to get to, like Manchester, which might also be good middle ground for those who live further afield. But if any of you know of anywhere better please tell me.
I'm also assuming that a Saturday is ok.

If anyone is interested please post your names here and then when we have a suitable number of people I will give out my email and we can make proper arrangments.

Ferrets are optional!

leander · 31/05/2002 23:02

Kanesmum are you originally from Barrow?

Tinker · 01/06/2002 08:51

Prefer Manchester to Leeds but don't change plans to suit me

salalex · 01/06/2002 16:14

I live in Scotland - so everywhere's too far really! I know there are other Scottish mumsnetters but cannot remember who lives where. I was thinking of edinburgh! Anyway, I don't want to confuse this thread again, so I'll leave it at that! DD wants to press four as that;s how old she is, so here it is!!74421111111111111111111 1.74777777777777777111777777777411429

Eulalia · 01/06/2002 21:38

salalex - I live in Scotland, about 20 miles south of Aberdeen. NOt in a position to meet up at the moment but sometime soon I hope. I don't know if there are enough Scottish mumsnetters for a meet up??

Kanesmum · 03/06/2002 10:26

Leander

Yes I'm a true Barrovian. I am moving back there soon, hopefully by the end of the year. Miss my family too much. Why? Do you know the area or know anyone there.

Rhubarb · 03/06/2002 14:06

Janh, Cherry, Elwar and Rosy were uncertain about being able to make Manchester. Perhaps if you lived near enough to each other, one of you could drive? Or perhaps all contribute to a mini-bus? They work out pretty cheap. I just don't want anyone to miss out on a Northern meet-up. But as there seems to be more here in favour of Manchester, we will stick to Manchester. 27th July. We just have to figure out where now, does anyone have preferences for curry/chinese? I don't want to go too far from the centre as many people will be getting public transport.

If anyone wants to email me privately my email is [email protected]. Coxy if you email me I will tell you where I live now, but I won't post it on here if you don't mind!

Am looking forward to meeting you all!

Manchester, curry or Chinese, 27 July fine with me! I don't spend much time on this website, don't feel I 'know' any of you, but it'd be a nice night out!

KMG · 03/06/2002 19:23

OK - I give up, how did you know Kanesmum that Leander was from Barrow?

We are moving to Barrow in August (from Oxfordshire), big move for us, but we're very much looking forward to it. Is there anything I should know about the place?

KMG · 03/06/2002 19:25

Whoops, wrong way round! How did Leander know that Kanesmum was a Barovian? Is there some secret code we're missing?

janh · 03/06/2002 20:11

KMG, I am glad you asked that, I was wondering too.

Either "soOOOOoon" is a Barrow codeword or Kanesmum has mentioned it before???

We once had a holiday nearby (can't remember name of village) and went into Barrow, not exciting but pleasant. I think houses are probably dead cheap though. It is handyish for the Lake District and there is a nice little railway from Ravenglass (sounds like H Potter) to somewhere else but although it is on the coast it is not a beachy area - too much pollution of various kinds and in any case it tends to be muddy rather than sandy.

Rhubarb, Manchester is OK for me, I live in East Lancs so if any of Cherry, Elwar and Rosy are stuck for transport from around there I could help.

(Prefer Indian but Chinese is OK too!)

AllyWB · 03/06/2002 21:01

Hi meeting up sounds great, perhaps we should have a series of meals based on where people can get to. Manchester / Rochdale or even Leeds are fine for me, I'd drive so can offer lifts to say another 5/6 ladies (got a Zafira!) in my area.(Heywood / Rochdale)

leander · 03/06/2002 21:43

Kanesmum
I think i might know you just from things that i have read that you have written.I think that you and your DH are friends of my brother + SIL

cherry · 03/06/2002 22:47

I'm fine for Manchester, was just making suggestions when I mentioned Leeds and York.
I'm Newcastle upon Tyne so easy enough for me to travel by train.

Rhubarb · 04/06/2002 14:56

Brilliant! Manchester it is then! I will suss out some good restaurants and get back to you, perhaps a Thai might suit everyone? It's a bit like Indian and Chinese mixed together isn't it? Now, do we make it adults only or are kids allowed? How is everyone for babysitters? I know a lot of you have partners that would look after them, but for those who don't it might be a bit difficult.

Again, if anyone wants to email me personally my email address is on my last posting. Coxy where are you? I want to know where in Preston you originate from! I don't come from Preston, I'm a Mancunian, but I have my roots here now.

Tinker · 04/06/2002 15:14

Rhubarb - are you thinking of an all day thing or an afternoon/evening bash (which may be tricky for those travelling)?

For me, I would prefer evening since I would be able to get a babysitter then and I'll eat anything. But, if this is suitable, maybe I could join up later.

Please just make arrangements to suit the majority (in case I can't sort out a sitter) - I'm sure you will anyway

Empress · 04/06/2002 20:08

Hi again
I can make either evening or afternoon, evening wd be nice but of course not easy for those travelling home afterwards. what about a 'tea-time' early dinner time? Most restaurants are open all day, we could even make a lunch followed by drinking - whatever!!
I wasn't thinking of bringing my daughter but now you've mentioned it it would be nice - but I'm happy to go along with the majority. (it is a democracy after all, although it's easy to forget with all this Jubilee stuff around !)

Kanesmum · 04/06/2002 21:13

Leander

Dh and I have been racking our brains on who you could be and who your bro & SIL are. Think I might know. Is your son called Joseph and have you a neice called Sophie? I don't know anyone else in L'pool apart from R & M. Hope I'm right on this.

leander · 04/06/2002 21:25

Kanesmum yes you're right about who i am . How are you all?

Kanesmum · 04/06/2002 21:28

KMG

That's good news. Maybe we could meet up when we are all sorted. Just a thought. Barrow is a small (ish) town. Nice little shopping centre and a Hollywood park which has a cimema, leisure centre, bowling alley and food places plus lots more in the town like a few beaches etc. Have you bought a house already? We have just bought a new house which is being built at the moment.

Kanesmum · 04/06/2002 21:31

Leander

Thank god. Can you imagine if we had met up thinking we didn't know each other. We are all ok. Kanes teething at the moment cutting 4 front teeth at once. How about you's. Have you sorted your house out yet?

leander · 04/06/2002 21:43

The house is not quite finished yet but we're getting there slowly!! Are you looking forward to moving back home ? we're all fine, Joseph is also teething at the moment but apart from that he's great.

leander · 04/06/2002 21:55

Is there anyone else going to the meet from liverpool?

Kanesmum · 05/06/2002 10:38

Leander

Yes we all looking forward to moving back to Barrow. I gave it my best shot down here but it's not the same with no family around. It only bothered me when I had Kane suppose I didn't notice it before hand with working full time. Anyway should be back home by the end of the year. How old is Joseph now? Kane is 1 next this month, it's just gone so fast, was only looking back at some photo's the other day when he was first born.

Rhubarb · 05/06/2002 13:53

How about if we leave it open on the kids front, so if you can't get a sitter then bring them along by all means, but if you can then so much the better. I think mums relax more when they are free from their little 'uns.

I was thinking of meeting everyone in a pub in the late afternoon (3ish) and then go to the restaurant around 5. The evening can be as late as people want it to be, I know my trains run till quite late so I'm not bothered. How does this sit with everyone? Can I also have a rough idea of who is coming please?
