Let's Go Clubbing in London!

As a result of Saturday, I realise I really miss going dancing. DH will go with me if I want, but I'd rather go with someone who wants to go!

I'm in East London, tempted by a club in Bethnal Green out of laziness, but I can travel to wherever. I don't want to get really really drunk, I just want to dance a lot. (Not salsa! Rock/pop/hip-hop/indie/disco/garage/whatever)

Anyone up for it?

yes that is fine....me too nappies!!!! sat here thinking now what is jungle called now (might as well get my knitting out eh?)...drum and bass looooove it.

don't mind being somewhere shiny but DEFINITELY DON'T want to be surrounding by gurning 16 year olds!!!

somewhere bit studenty maybe?

or yes, gay or indie.

what about one of those clubs where everyone brings their ipods with tracks on it and are rated according to how much dancing everyone does.

listen, if you do a search under my name and clubbing you'll find a thread longing to do this.

THIS IS MY DREAM COME TRUE [tears welling up emoticon]

Heathcliffscathy · 22/11/2006 10:55

music is so important thought...we won't be dancing like loons if we hate it will we?

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:02

I can dance to almost anything, I really generally don't care. I don't want to go salsa dancing or some other kind of dancing where there are official moves, because, well, that's not what I want. Otherwise, I'm fine.

What I care about:

  • reasonably easy to get to
  • not too cruisy
  • not somewhere where we have to dress like tarts or be 17 and gorgeous to get in
  • reasonably safe, or safe-feeling

I am not too bothered about paying to get in, but I expect that more than £5 or so will get people grumbling, understandably.

I can try to find somewhere RnB or indie or hip hop.

There is a lovely-sounding local club that would work for me, but it's only once a month. Here . Next one is December 16th. And there's this night, but the burlesque is slightly off-putting to me. Again, local to me, as I was thinking about trying to scare up local folk, on a mailing list.

I'll have a look into wider options, Spitalfields, Hoxton, Shoreditch, and even the West End ...

oh sophable! i havnt heard anyone call it jungle in....years and years >

you are officially my New Best Freind

yes NQC - v happy to go somewhere less shiny, bit more niche (i always liked the little backrooms and secret 'workers' bar bits of bigger clubs anyway)

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:09

Less shiny probably means cheaper, anyway. I think the big clubs tend to be very expensive.

oh dont forget the pizza

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:13

hmmm. yeah current trend for all things burlesque is a bit, um, shite IMO too

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:14

O.M.G custardo - if you saw the trouble dsis and i had trying to get nosh at 3am in hackney...

yes, post dancing food availability v importnat!

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:15

I'm uncomfortable with it because I don't like a T+A atmosphere. They're like an arch ironic podium dancer thing, while still really being there for men to ogle.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:16

Back home you can always get pizza by the slice on the street when bars close (at 3am).

Aren't there loads of fast food places open in Hackney at that hour?

OP posts:
NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:16

custardo, are you coming?

btw - all the references to pizza and dresundoing and everything else have gone right over my head. i clearly missed a lot on saturday

Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:20

not unless you have another after xmas - the train fare from brighton to london bit steep. plus free bed close to a station.

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:20

exactly NQC. girl power my arse. it makes me uncomfortable too (and i have had a v 'colourful' past and seen a lot wilder stuff than that)

um, yes. there were 'outlets' but we tried the delivery thing which wasnt happening. too drunk to work it out. in the end, she made us mini-pizza from the freezer and baked beans. such is life!

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:23

Some people went for pizza before. I saw the dress undoing, but only because I was part of the splinter group who left early. (I was enjoying the dancing, but was tired, and needed to get a friend home).

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:24

oh i dont think i can do soon what dates are we thinking of here??

i may have to wait for a bit too.

custardo - didnt know you lived in brighton, we should go there sometime!

Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:26

there are a group of brightonians who lunch regularly. your welcome anytime.

theres a brighton xmas one as it happens

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:26

so you didnt not talk to me much because you thought i was frivolous and boring then?

i think i can come across that way sometimes

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:28

Hmm, I think I may do one the weekend after next? I think I will suggest this sort of thing to my local mailing list and see what comes up, too ...

OP posts:
NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:29

loving 'brightonians who lunch '

oh canicanicani?

it sa PITA to get there from here just because theres no motorway. its all dual carriageways and roundabouts and bottlenecks thru little towns. bloody south coast.

but i do loooove brighton, so i dont rule out making the effort. from what i remember, youre pretty funny and would be worth the trip!

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:30

what is this local mailing list of which you speak?

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2006 11:31

Oh, local mailing list isn't an MN thing, it's a mailing list for our local NCT group.

OP posts:
Tortington · 22/11/2006 11:31

M3 straight to brighton.

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:33

i like the look of unskinny bop, btw. sounds like fun.

Sophable and i are def having a Jungle night at some point arent we?? my sis and cous would be up for that if we wanted...

NappiesGalore · 22/11/2006 11:35
