Local Mum's - Bedfordshire - Anyone Out There???

ChablisGlugger · 04/10/2006 11:48

Really hope someone hears my voice in the wilderness!

I'm a 35 yo mum living in Flitwick. My son William's just turned 1 and is sooooo adorable, however I'm struggling

My pals live in London mostly, and they're nearly all childless. I feel isolated, I guess - not aided my the fact I don't drive (medical reasons).

Anyone out there???

Hi Chablis, I'm near your area - my normaly posting name is MascaraOHara if you 'see' me around the board..

..feel free to CAT me if you fancy a meet up.

Don't recognise your name so I'm assuming you're new to MN??

SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 04/10/2006 17:11

bump.

ChablisGlugger · 04/10/2006 18:03

Hi there SASO - good to hear there's someone about! Yep, I'm new to this site - stumbled across it yesterday (while I was supposed to be working!) and it looked just what I need.

Whereabouts are you? Sorry - what does 'CAT' mean? See - you can tell I'm new to this!

This reminds me of a dating site I joined a few years ago...!

ChablisGlugger · 04/10/2006 18:07

Scrap that SASO - I've checked out what CAT is - all very technical this! I've enabled that bit now so will be in touch when I get a free few minutes some time tomorrow

Hi - not technically a Bedfordshire mum yet, but grew up there (went to school in Shefford) and am returning to the area as soon as we sell our house in Bristol. I'm 31 with an 8mo dd, and even though I am returning 'home', am feeling a little nervous about it all as I won't know any other mums in the area (my friends are all without kids too!). Would be good to meet up with other mums in the future!

ChablisGlugger · 04/10/2006 20:35

Hi Poppiesmum - yeah, Shefford's just down the road from here I think - why're you moving back here?

I'm all for getting some kind of Bedfordshire mums group thing going, so it'd be great to have you on board!

ChablisGlugger · 05/10/2006 10:25

Sharp And Spikey - I've tried to CAT you, but I keep getting a message saying that there's nobody of that name, and I also tried the other name you gave...

OP posts:
SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 05/10/2006 13:44

Oh, how odd!

you can email me on mascaraohara @ hotmail co uk

obviously without the spaces and with real .'s

Are you finding your way around the other threads? it's terribly addictive!

ChablisGlugger · 05/10/2006 13:48

Actually, I'm now having problems contacting anyone on the site - keep getting that same pesky message - must either be doing something wrong or there's a glitch in the system!

I'm off to a client meeting in London shortly so won't be about for the rest of the day (typically, it's p*ing down with rain so I'm gonna show up looking like the proverbial drowned rat!), so will drop you a line tomorrow.

...I know what you mean about the site being 'addictive'!

Hello - I live in Henlow, so not too far from you. I have 2.10 year old DS and 1 year old DD. I work 3 days a week in London (the weather looks very depressing out there) as an accountant.

QueenEvil · 05/10/2006 13:51

About time we had a Beds mums meet up isn't it? Would be nice.

I'm in Bedford itself, used to live in Southill, very near to Shefford a few years back though.

I'm 36, have 5 kids aged 14, 12, 10, 3 and 21mths.

Shall we be really brave and plan it?

QueenEvil · 05/10/2006 13:55

If anyone would like to e-mail me on [email protected] I'd love to hear from you. I work 3 eves a week, ds3 goes to p/g in the mornings so I could make a meetup in the early afternoon on a Monday or Tuesday.

What about everyone else?

SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 05/10/2006 15:09

Yep, shall we go for centre of Beford? Could meet for lunch somewhere..

Simplyred · 05/10/2006 16:28

Hello hello - can I join too?

I live in Renhold and I'm just outside Bedford.

Have ds 6y and dd 1y.

poppiesmum · 05/10/2006 18:56

Hi - know I'm not in the area yet, but if I'm around, I'd love to come too!

Moving back to Beds to be closer to family. Dh has transferred job to Milton Keynes, and when I return to work, mum will help with childcare! Don't have family near us here, and want dd to grow up with her relatives close by.

See you soon!

SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 05/10/2006 20:34

Hi Poppiesmum, I work in MK and I'm MK side of Bedford.. Is Renhold near Wilstead/Great Barford?

ChablisGlugger · 06/10/2006 11:58

A Bedfordshire mums meet up would be great. Only slight sticking point is that I work full-time Monday-Friday. Any chance of a mums evening out in Bedford??? If not, no worries, I've probably got some hols to use up!

OP posts:
SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 06/10/2006 12:03

I work fulltime too.. evenings or weekend lunches for me

IdrisTheDragooOOOOOOoooon · 06/10/2006 12:08

I work Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

SharpAndSpikeyOHara · 06/10/2006 14:41

Idris, I've seen your name about - didn't ralise you were local..

Simplyred · 06/10/2006 19:02

I only work all day untill 9pm on Tuesdays - Evenings are sometimes ok - but dh works nights every other week - 6pm-6am, and yes I'm very near Great Barford and not too far from Wilstead.

What about a Saturday lunch time - 21st or 28th? somewhere with stuff for kids!

CastsSpellsWitchySpells · 07/10/2006 08:04

Just sticking my head around the door to say hello. I'm not actually Bedfordshire, but am in Herts only 5 mins from the border, and have other friends with young babies in Flitwick too.

I'm busy all weekends this month so am not likely to make it to a meetup, but will keep an eye out for any future ones.

Welcome to MN .

QueenEvil · 07/10/2006 13:23

It's really good to see so many of us are in Beds or nearby. There is a KidsWorld (softplay) centre in Bedford or if the weather is nice the river and park are really lovely.

Sounds like a weekend would be best to fit in with everyone - I can make the 28th as I'm working extra on the 21st til 2pm.

How does that fit in with you lot?

LauraGas · 08/10/2006 14:48

Hello,

Just snatching 5 mins while husband snores on sofa and son snuffles in stroller! I'm in Podington on the Beds/Northants border and would love to join in if that was ok? Can't do 28th though but would love to know of any future meet ups!

ChablisGlugger · 08/10/2006 17:56

Yeah, I won't be able to do the 28th either, unfortunately. As an ice-breaker, once we've all agreed a date, would an evening out chatting over a few glasses of vino (or whatever it is you happen to glug...) suit others? This would be ideal for me - not that I'm an alky, you understand - as I find these things always seem to flow a bit better with a glass or 2 of the fruity stuff. If not, that's cool too - just thought I'd throw that one out there and see if it met with approval.... Hic!
