yes, kids are in bed, at last! BUT I have to work. I'm so looking forward to finishing and having my evenings to myself. actually I'd love to go to the cinema to see little miss sunshine, but la vedo grigia...
ok, my english favourite books are: jane eyre, anything from pg woodehouse, kathrine mansfield short stories (although I think she was from NZ) and jonathan coe's book ohhhh can't remembe the title in english, one of his first books, the one about the guy who writes the biography of a winshaw family...
the weekend is looming and the weather here is depressing. what have you planned?

QuiQuoQua · 06/10/2006 21:06

not much TBH. DH is going to be helping his dad moving, so he'll be away all day. so not much of a week-end for me either.

I hope it won't rain so much. we've been home all day today and I am ready to slash my wrists. I thought about going to the west-end shopping but it's saturday, it'll be a mess. so i don't know... depressing thought.

never read jane eire, believe it or not. rimediero'.
i'm reading demons by dostoewsky atm which will last until 2010... a bit of money saved there .

what's this translation about? anything interesting?

franca70 · 06/10/2006 21:31

thanks gio and qqq for your offers!
I'm translating a book on the history of a bank.......... argh now, I bet no one will offer to help anymore! I'm bored bored bored.
I'd love to be in London and spend a day browsing in harvey nics. not that I can afford anything there, but I need a bit of distraction.
have to work now, buon weekend!

Gio77 · 07/10/2006 22:22

Ehmm...sorry Franca I just remember I've got to wash my hair tonight...LOL

OP posts:
franca70 · 07/10/2006 23:00

I knew it!

Ellbell · 07/10/2006 23:20

Ahem... we have Harvey Nicks up here too, you know!? (Not that I have ever set foot in there...)

Just a quick ciao as I am off to bed now. Have just found a lovely hotel where I have hinted strongly to my dh that he might like to take me (senza bimbe) at half term for a night. He looked at the home-page on the web for all of 2 seconds and declared it 'poncey and expensive'. Boh... Men, eh!?

Hmmm... franca... that sounds 'interesting' (????). Poor you!

Buona notte a tutte, e a presto...

NotSoUseless · 08/10/2006 10:57

ellbell with my DH it'll have to take more than a hint. I probably have to find a place mysellf, book it, book the kennel, arrange for chilcare, arrange for catsitter, etc

sorry a bit of a sore spot there. haven't been taken anywhere for annyversary for above reasons.

anyway lovely day today. went to Kew gardens yesterday for the first time and DD and I loved it. I am going to start looking at houses that way so that we might not need to go too far out.

NotSoUseless · 08/10/2006 10:58

BTW it's sarah again, I like this name best.

Franca I don't mind the history of the bank, anything to make my brain work pleeeeease

franca70 · 08/10/2006 17:00

I'm translating from italian into english. I'd have to send you a chapter by royal mail. if you really want to do it.... I'm actually pretty sure that you'd do a better job than I'm.
ellbell, where would he rather take you? dh is the same. he prefers something cheap and "spartano". this is why I do sometimes dream of harvey nicks.... however at the moment I'm so stressed that anything would do, just a night without the kids...

NotSoUseless · 08/10/2006 19:30

here is DH the more flashy. but I don't care either... I just want to have a weekend without responsibility... where I AM THE KID!!!!!!

franca70, I don't mind really. if you are a bit behind or anything I'll help you. I can't garantee perfection but I'll try. I was going to say I'll ask DH to help as well but he's useless at that: he asks me for spellings smtimes??? I can send you the address if you like.

franca70 · 08/10/2006 20:49

thank you so much notsouseless, at the moment I'm trying to talk dh into doing 1 chapter for me, by playing on his sense of guilt, like please help, I left everything for you... etc. doesn't seem to work, though. I'll let you know tomorow, davvero grazie, sei super gentile.
yes, it's amazing, I've only come back from holiday for a month and I already need another one! or at least just one morning with a lie in, long breakfast, reading the papers...

NotSoUseless · 08/10/2006 22:15

franca70 · 08/10/2006 22:25

absolutely. actually me and dh should really find the time to discuss some serious stuff, but with the kids around, it's impossible to talk, and then I'm working at night, while he watches reruns of west wing. it's hard. sometime I think it'be easier if our parents weren't "on the continent" and could babysit once a fortnight...

franca70 · 08/10/2006 22:28

I'll let you know tomorrow, comunque, grazie ancora. I also put a notice in the italian department, hope someone gets in touch.

NotSoUseless · 08/10/2006 22:34

definitely. it would be much easier. go for a coffe, gym, anything without having it to plan for a month...

mym mum is coming in nov and I can't wait.

fine.

notte.

Gio77 · 09/10/2006 12:56

Lucky u Sarah...my daughter's godmother said she would come for a few months now that she got her diploma and has decided not to go to uni just yet but cause of our plans (various trips) she might not come now...sigh. Really need a break at the moment!

How are u now Franca? I feel shite now! cold and sore throat...and I have my second lesson planned tonight! Happy days!

OP posts:
franca70 · 09/10/2006 16:06

oh no Gio! hope I haven't spread any virus through the net. Good luck with your lesson tonight.
we all need a break, what shall we do? start a revolution? I'm so hoping to be finished within two weeks, then I think I'll have a day trip in bristol all by myself. I like bristol, and it's only an hour something by train from here. ciao

franca70 · 09/10/2006 21:45

Hi notsouseless, dh has "offered" to help with a chapter. we'll see, if he doesn't deliver, as they say, I'll let you know asap. graziegraziegrazie.

NotSoUseless · 10/10/2006 21:35

figurati!any time!

franca70 · 10/10/2006 22:52

ciao notso, how's it going in London? It's raining here, I'm exhauseted, but I count to be finished in less than two weeks. how's dd? no more acetone? mamma mi si chiudono gli occhi dalla stanchezza. ciao

Gio77 · 11/10/2006 14:51

Oh Franca here its raining too!what a pain! I was planning to take Natasha to mother and toddler group as she ahsnt been out for a few days but she has a cold and I have a sore throat...still!!!
Anyway everything else is good here! Its my hubby's b'day today and I am cooking pasta ai frutti di mare which is his favourite! And Tash loves it too!

OP posts:
franca70 · 11/10/2006 16:05

where do you find the frutti di mare??????????? v.lucky husband, I say. happy brithday.
yesterday night dd woke up three times because of the heavy rain, she was really scared. today bad headache!

Gio77 · 12/10/2006 08:31

Well Franca u can find some good ones in Waitrose or we buy them fresh if we go to portsmouth (we are on the sea) and they are not bad at all!!!

Thanks for gli auguri he enjoyed his birthday!

...I was thinking I should start dieting soon does anybody have any advice for me here?

OP posts:
franca70 · 12/10/2006 11:02

my closest waitrose is 40 mins driving away!! and I don't drive! glad he's enjoyed his birthday.
Don't have many tips about diets, I know that there's a special topic on dieting on MN.
how much do you want to lose? I think that one good tip would be stick to carboidrati a pranzo, and proteins a cena. no butter (I'm addicted to english butter) or full fat cheeeses. no choc digestive. not too much wine. or beer or fizzy drinks.
I still remember (as a nightmare) that when I was fifteen I tried to diet, and my nonna decided to try a weird diet consisting in eating just boiled potatoes with no condimento whatsoever. I lasted mezzagiornata. then I went for a cornetto algida...

NotSoUseless · 12/10/2006 22:52

ciao a tutte. mi sono assentata per un drink ieri e un sacco di beghe x la macchina. how are you all?
I remember another idiotic diet of when I was 15: latte e banane x three days, or Yocca e frutta. please!!
I wish DD could avoid all this but, that's part of growing up I suppose.
we are all fine here. not nervous anymore, DD's breath's fine (my mum called the pediatrician straight away and got all the info end advices and already sent me some powder to give if it happens again - are your mums the same?)
I'm going to Italy on monday with DD, to see my dad in udine. can't wait TBH.
franca70's right for dieting. no sweets or chocholate or bisquits in the house only yogurt, fruit etc. if you are pekish you are forced to have healthy stuff. take today for example, DH came back with a bar of chock: it was finished in 5 seconds. and I am an idiot for buying nutella...
winter is the worst, you feel like eating 'bad' stuff, and lots of cup of tea and buiskuits..
